Great contribution, Jackie. I especially appreciate the specific tips at the end of the article. The article supports what you and many others have already been saying. Hope you are feeling well today! Kenby kls5834 - AFIBBERS FORUM

Keith, I've got to thoroughly agree with George-----exercising in afib is likely exacerbating the problem. I wish I had known---instead I tried to exercise out of it----and watched my ejection fraction get reduced to 51%, then 46%, then 45%. I had the ablation within weeks of the last reading. Time between 51% and 46% was about 5 months. Give your heart a break----especially if you aby kls5834 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Keith, When I read your post, I thought "Wow". You and I are very similar. I'm 52. I've played organized basketball all my life. Didn't play at the college level, unless you give me credit for intramurals---lol. However, I continued to play in leagues and multiple nights per week for years. I've also enjoyed working out intensely, including with strengthby kls5834 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Mike, If I only had 3 temporary episodes of afib in a year, I certainly would not have had an ablation. I'm glad the Flec is working well for you and I'm happy that your afib is so infrequent. Prior to the ablation, I had afib every day, for most of the day. Natale ablation has given me a second chance! Kenby kls5834 - AFIBBERS FORUM
I can only tell you my experiences....and I agree with Shannon...... I was diagnosed with afib on 1/14/14. Cardioversion attempted unsuccessfully that day and rhythm meds soon followed. First ultrasound done 5/14 with reduced ejection fraction of 51%. Afib burden grew, but rate low and controlled except during exercise. In fact, after beginning the meds, I quickly developed brady, when woby kls5834 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Are you considering an ablation or are you happy staying in permanent afib because you feel better? Most information on this topic points to afib being progressive, meaning it will only get worse as time goes by. Do you know what effect it is having on your heart? Have you had your ejection fraction measured before and again recently? Shannon has written many very lengthy responses aboutby kls5834 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Ugh.....I think there were a myriad of factors that colluded to bring my likely genetic predisposition for afib to the forefront earlier than it would have otherwise.....my afib was detected at age 51 on 1/14/14----asymptomatic--simply found as a result of another procedure I was planning to have done. Stress--my mother, who I am very close to, suffered a very bad stroke on 5/19/13.......whileby kls5834 - AFIBBERS FORUM
I've never associated any headache with afib.by kls5834 - AFIBBERS FORUM
If you think you are waking up in Afib, I would definitely have a "sleep study" performed to check for sleep apnea to see if that is playing a role. If you know exercise is triggering afib, I would avoid the exercise. Stress can definitely trigger things......Jackie recommended Theanine to me. I tried it, but unsure if it helped or not. I tried meditation......may have helped witby kls5834 - AFIBBERS FORUM
I agree with reducing your exercise----at least until you have a system that allows you to continously monitor your heart during exercise. After I was diagnosed with afib (asymptomatic---I was just lucky the nurse found it), I continued to exercise, with the blessing of the initial cardiologist. I began using a chest strap monitor and noticed all of the high aberrant readings but didn't reby kls5834 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Paul, It sounds like you feel symptoms when you are experiencing the afib you describe. Do you have an AliveCor or some other device? I'm asking because I am wondering if your afib burden could actually being higher than you know, but perhaps you just don't feel symptomatic during all periods of afib. Do you ever feel like exercise could be initiating your afib? Exercise was cby kls5834 - AFIBBERS FORUM
JPearre, Even though others have already said it, I have to agree. The cardiologist who first treated me for Afib discouraged me from ablation and recommended meds. After of year of trying different meds and continuing to fail with the ever progressing afib burden, I moved forward with the ablation. That was a little over two months ago and other than a few early hiccups, I've been inby kls5834 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Two months ago from today (1/27/15), I had my Natale ablation. Things are continuing to go "Awesomely" with my heart rhythm. I have no regrets.....but to state it more positively, it was one of the best decisions of my life. Words can't express my gratitude for finding the members of this forum. It's a great feeling to reach up and feel the regular pulse in my caroby kls5834 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Que, I was diagnosed with Afib on 1/14/14. Ablation by Natale on 1/27/15. NSR since ablation. After diagnosis, electrical cardioversion did NOT work. Started with Tikosyn for anti-arrhythmic med. Still had breakthrough high heart rates during exercise, which often initiated Afib after several minutes. I kept exercising with the permission of my cardiologist for many months this way, evby kls5834 - AFIBBERS FORUM

Thanks to all who replied for this discussion. You guys led me to some great information and stimulated ideas. Based on all of this, I'm going to moderate my cardio exposure when I start exercising regularly. Additionally, I'm not going to start off with any heavy weights of any substance until I have a chance to see how it affects my heart rate. The last thing I want is to impaby kls5834 - AFIBBERS FORUM
5-22-2008 post by Hans Larsen: Dr. Kenneth Cooper, "the father of aerobics", believes that lower intensity exercise provides the optimum cardiovascular benefits. He recommends that one should exercise at least 30 minutes 3 times a week at one's personal target heart rate. He calculates a range for the target heart rate as 220 minus age multiplied by 0.65 and 0.80. Thus, the eby kls5834 - AFIBBERS FORUM
George, Thanks for the link to the CR on exercise.....there is still so much information on this site that I haven't seen.....ugh. Tomorrow will be seven weeks since my Natale ablation. I'm looking forward to reinitiating my exercise regimen soon. Questions for this knowledgeable group: There are many on here who believe lifelong prolonged events of cardio, such as endurance running, swimming, biking, skiing---or whatever, may be an actual reason for you to have developed afib. Shannon, Without going into all of the details, I'll try to briefly summarize my experience with the Alive-Cor. Being asymptomatic, I had no idea when I was in afib or when I was in NSR. I would often feel my carotid---sometimes normal, sometimes irregular. I often suspected afib, but I had no way of knowing for sure. I couldn't buy an ECG machine or go to the doc everytime I fby kls5834 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Steve, Very interesting post. Thanks for sharing it with this forum. I'm sure you will get plenty of feedback. We have many knowledgeable and educated members here. Had you posted this a few months ago, I would have been all over it. I was initially diagnosed 1/14/14 (age 51) with afib. I had my Natale ablation on 1/27/15. Like John, I considered having a local practitioner perform the procedure but I was lucky enough to find this website and the wonderful, caring and compassionate people who guided me to Dr. Natale. I am well pleased with my results. Yes, it was an inconvenience---I drove from Florida to Austin, TX, and back---but a small price to pay when you can be treatedby kls5834 - AFIBBERS FORUM
That's great news, Jim. I know what you mean about breaking that habit of reaching for your pulse......I'm still checking my carotid regularly.....but at least today it is simply confirming my NSR. Best wishes for continued NSR for you as well. Kenby kls5834 - AFIBBERS FORUM
Congrats, Travis. I'm glad it went well for you. Sounds like you got the same Natale/St. David's treatment I did---superb! Take it easy for the next few days before escaping from Austin.....no hurry to do anything. Glad you have NSR......keep it going! Kenby kls5834 - AFIBBERS FORUM
