Another well-known physician steps forth to alert us. Mark Hyman, MD, is a well-known and highly regarded Functional Medicine Practitioner. If you rely on supplements to stay healthy, please read and understand what this proposed bill means to you. Jackie There is some BAD legislation in Congress right now that could harm our access to supplements . Senator John McCain (R-AZ) and Senator Byby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
John - of course, the whole body must function in harmony - as a symphony. If one system is playing out of tune, there will be dis-harmony. Spinal alignment is key in the overall health of the body. If the spine is out of alignment, then key nerves do not inervate appropriate organs... like stomach or heart etc. We tend to advise stop-gap measures without taking into the whole body approachby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Judy - if you really meant your TSH is "low" then that means you are possibly approaching 'hyper' territory. Be specific and check your results with your doctor. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Sharon - Why not just do magnesium and potassium....esp. since you mention a high sodium diet. He's probably way too high with the IC ratio of Na/K. The magnesium in that product is fine... magnesium glycinate, but it's only 200 mg and he'll need to get up to 600-800 daily. Stopping the beer is a good start because as you know, it depletes magnesium and as a diuretic, it willby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
I'll just add before this discussion closes that one of our former posters was talked into the stereotaxis system as the latest, greatest, etc. to correct a failed first ablation and was injured with tamponade... so severely that he finally had a maze to correct the arrhythmia while they also stripped his pericardium in order for him to function without constant pain. I'm sure, in timby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
It's typically the magnesium taken too much too fast that causes the diarrhea problem... but not always. You should consider stopping all supplements and starting over...one at a time. Go very slowly on one for a month of low dosing titrated up gradually. If all goes well, introduce the next critical...potassium and so on. That way you can identify the culprit as the last introductionby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
In addition to the theoreticals that George calculates, there is the variable that one must consider and that is how well your liver clears the drug. If there is any liver involvement or impairment, then the drug will recirculate longer. So that becomes a concern as well. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Carol - sometimes there are 'health fairs' or mini conventions, locally, where practitioners participate in lectures to audiences about their practice philosophy. Over the years, I've found several really good contacts by attending these...but I realize this may not be a regular local occurrence for all localities. I find that I can generally detrmine if a chiropractor is just aby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM

Since we see cardiologists, much emphasis these days is on prescribing statin drugs. You need to be aware of the risks that come with statin use. I've commented on my story previously. I have statin-induced myopathy as a result of taking a statin on blind faith because my new internist at the time was a statin zealot (1989) and my cholesterol wasnt even out of range. He was just thinkingby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Mike - I do not have a preference for those on the iHerb wesite. I did look and the bulk powder sounded good because I like to minimize capsule inake when possible, but I have no idea how it tastes. Perhaps others who use arginine can comment. Good luck with your experiment. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM

Judith - you may be getting too close to hyper-thyroid by taking that large of a dose 90 mg in a day. For some, that could be fine but sometimes, we get too close into hyper territory and it will definitely trigger afib and it will make you restless and jumpy. Why not stop one dose a day for a while and see what happens. I don't see in your list the very important electrolyte, potassiuby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Mike - taurine is not a true amino acid so there is no problem with taking it as a single supplement. That's not typically the case with others and with arginine, the one caveat for sure is the risk of stimulating a dormant coxsackie virus and coming down with a case of shingles. So if you had chicken pox as a child, you need to be careful with arginine and be sure that you take a preventiby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Over the years, we've had many people from CA consult with local EPs but have made the decision to have Dr. Natale do their ablations. Lynn of San Diego flew there just for his care for both her afib and the flutter ablation. Sadja Greenwood, MD, who used to post years back , recently chose the Natale ablation; and she was on faculty at UCSF before she retired. One of the former afibbersby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Just to clarify... there is vagal which is parasympathetic and adrenergic which is sympathetic. Exercise reduces parasympathic tone. If you want to enhance parasympathic tone or calm down even more, then the taurine would be useful.... as would theanine, 5 HTP, GABA in certain circumstances, and the key B complex vitamins etc...plus magnesium. Joyce - If he sutured the area, no problem. If not, then I'd just stop the NK for a day or two to be on the safe side. Since he knew of NK, what was his advice? Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Eric - I should have also mentioned to have your spinal alignment checked by a competent chiropractor. Very often stomach issues relate to misalignment and we certainly know that back problems and stiffness also shows up when the spine is mal-aligned. If you find one who uses kinesiology testing, he/she can test for and eliminate food sensitivities as well.... the technique is NAET. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Tom - I think chocolate consumed in large quantities and then results in heart flutters comes from too much sugar... depleting magnesium and potassium ... rather than some "chemical"... Very small quantities of chocolate - especially dark that has a small amount of sugar by comparison to some that are absolutely loaded with sugar probably don't cause problems. Joyce in the book by Eric Braverman, MD, The Healing Nutrients Within, he devotes 14 pages to the healing properties of glycine. Eric - I was vagal and I had a Natale ablation in 03. What I've since learned is that if I let my intracellular electrolytes become too low - either magnesium or potassium or both, I can have AF breakthrough. I've proved that about 5 times now. So, my point to you is this: Be sure you are optimal in IC levels of the critical electrolytes. Know your IC levels by Exatest because, ifby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thank you , Ivan, for that contribution. That restraint therapy certainly makes sense. It's unfortunate that it isn't yet covered by insurance or Medicare because for most seniors these day, out of pocket money is scarce. Fortunately, Erling is making very good progress with the affected arm and hand but we know it all takes time and certainly directed therapy is important as well.by Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Tom - that's very interesting. What is it about the chocolate? caffeine? sugar? impurities? Cocoa beans have a high pesticide residue content. Can we trust organic? Was your choice dark chocolate? Jerry, some years ago, Bob G from Ocala went to Sergio Pinski, MD EP in Westin, FL. He was very pleased with the outcome and he was a complicated case. The recommendations to use vitamin D3 in the advent of catching the H1N1 flu virus are to take at least 50,000 IU daily for 3 days.. more if you weigh above normal...so based on that, I don't see there is any need to space out the lower doses of 5 or 10,000 IUs daily.
