John - Electrophysiologist. The cardiologist with a specialty in arrhythmias or electrical disturbances of the heart. As for the red yeast rice.... it is a natural statin but relatively low in quantity. If you tolerate it and if you also take large amounts of CoQ you may be able to use it safely. Typically the pharmaceuticals are 'overkill' in the dosage. You can also use the Betaby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
This is not the case. Use the theanine from Jarrow either 100 mg or 200 mg. It's synthethized and has no adverse effects, either, from any residual vitamin K tha might come from the tea component. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hello Robin - So glad to read you are doing so well. Great report! The credit really goes to Hans and this wonderful website for providing a forum to share information so we can all take advantage of the plethora of knowledge and wisdom contributed by Hans and all the other contributors. Many of us just keep spreading the word passed down to us by our 'teachers' before us. It's always gratifby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Good for you, Robin. You may notice also that as your D levels improve, your healthier immune system will protect you from colds and flu. It took me several years of increasing doses 2000-> 10,000 to get my levels (originally 18) to stay around 70. Coupled with the fact that the northern lattitudes do not provide enough natural sunlight for adequate vitamin D, as the skin ages, it loses tby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM

John - you really do need to become knowledgeable about the downside of statins. If you have inflammation, you can manage that by other natural means such as Omega 3 fish oil, curcumin, Zyflamend, and others. Be aware that Polycosinol is now said to be ineffective for lowering cholesterol. Magnesium deficiency is found in mitral valve prolapse, FYI. You should also consider asking for theby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Susan - I put into a google search glucagon IV arrhythmia. Note this: You may want to be sure those doing the procedure know in advance and have a Plan B in case you do go into arrhythmia. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Susan - Susan - I was wondering how you are and now I learn by reading your posts. So sorry you are still having such a dreadful time with the intestinal issues. I think of you often. I realize you must remain on a restricted diet and be very choosy about what foods you tolerate. Following addresses your concerns regarding cholesterol in the Paleo diet. I hope you continue to improve.by Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
John - you need to learn your ejection fraction number. A deficiency in Coenzyme Q10 is noted in both cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure. You can be tested to learn your Q levels. In the meantime, I'd begin immediately taking a high quality Q10 (Such as Jarrow Qsorb) and plenty of it (like at least 400 mg daily if not more). Cardiologist Stephen Sinatra has found that high doby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Nick - that's a lovely gesture...and I thank you very much, but for those who choose to vote, please do it for Hans because without him, none of this would be possible. I just enjoy contributing a bit of knowledge here and there in the hopes it makes someone's life a bit easier. I certainly know what it means to be struggling with afib after my long journey. As for the Apple Cider Vinegar - it should always be Organic ACV. Otherwise, the body has to deal with the pesticide residues and work at detoxing those. When ill, the body doesn't need an extra burden. At least one of the testimonials offered does specify Organic, but I wanted to re-emphasize the preference. Bragg's is one of the best known and most available brands. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
The prefix 'supra' means superior or above (over) so the structure referenced would be 'above' the ventricle... or in the atrium... aka atrial tachycardia. Ventricular tachycardia is the more serious. You can google each designation and get a variety of descriptions and treatment options. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
I cant emphasize enough how critically important it is for anyone considering the use of the enzyme, nattokinase, to go to the Conference Room Sessions 39 and 40 and take the time to read through them carefully until you have a general idea of what nattokinase is, how it performs in the body and how the use of it might relate to your situation. Steve - check out the response to JohnF.... if you were short on electrolytes before ablation, then there is no reason to think that you remain so after. Some individuals fluctuate more than others in electrolyte stores. Eating out ... as you say, you don't often eat Pizza... but you just have to understand that commercially prepared food is loaded with salt. Salt displaces potassiumby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Mike - I've responded to John F's post and the response applies to your questions here as well. I would encourage everyone to once again...go to PC's contribution in the Conference Room 14 and study, paragraph by paragraph, his excellent summary of how magnesium and potassium affect heart rhythm. He spells it out exactly how the lack of electrolytes contribute to PACS and ultimby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks Dick. What wasn't discussed was the potential for atrial enlargement and sloppy valve performance. That should also be a consideration. The good news is that atrial enlargement can be resolved once the patient is back in NSR so it makes it a worthwhile consideration as well. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi John - So glad you are doing so well. You certainly deserve the NSR after all that time. As to the PACs - we've discussed many times that post ablation, for many individuals, it does become necessary to make sure that you have optimal magnesium and potassium inside heart cells. We usually add Taurine to that to complete the Essential Trio. I know that if I become too low in either mby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Ritze - started at 50 mg twice daily and ended up at 150 mg twice daily... then after optimizing magnesium and potassium, was able to dose only once a day with 50 mg right up to ablation time w/o afib breakthrough. That was not the case with the 150 mg BID, though. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Peter - I agree with George on the likely mineral loss - both potassium and magnesium - with the high protein diet like Atkins. Definitely start supplementing. And be sure you don't become dehydrated. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Dick excellent response. Thanks for the references. Help me out here, Dick. Aside from the stroke risk factor, my concern over remaining in permanent afib would be damage to the heart. I hadnt thought much about this since my early research years ago which indicated it is always better to avoid the risk of stroke (obviously) but also anything that contributes to enlarging the heart strby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Sam - if you are unable to locate potassium bicarbonate, the citrate form may also be acceptable...not sure. Also, Solgar Brand, which is available in the UK does have an amino acid potassium chelate (I believe they call it potassium glycinate) that may also work for you since chelates are often highly tolerable. At Hans' website, Nature's Way used to offer a potassium chelateby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Betty - I've used nattokinase for close to 8 years - before my ablation and after. It's safe and effective. I, too, was incompatible with Coumadin and refused to use it until ablation time. You probably already know your PT time but you should have your fibrinogen level checked. That level will indicate how hypercoaguable your blood is. Chris - I agree with George - enter "statin" in our search feature here and in the previous forum. We've written a great deal about the downside of treating high cholesterol. Judith - have your vitamin D levels checked. Low vitamin D is associated with the seasonal fluctuations you mention. It's the 25 OHD test and any physician can order it. Your level needs to be at least 50 - preferably over 70. Good for the immune system, bones, heart. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Mike - it could be that your stressful childhood/youth of which you've spoken coupled with alcohol intake produced enough stress or damage to your adrenal system and heart cells. It's good to recognize that some past behavior might be contributory and while we can't go back, we certainly can look forward and resist contributing more damage to a system that is already under siege. Debbie - I don't know if this will help you but for a period of time after my ablation, I had 'tachycardia' diagnosed from the holter monitor reading as 'sinus tachycardia'. Mike - just a thought - a daily dose of 75mg BID flecainide may not be enough at this point in time to keep you out of arrhythmia. Why not start increasing your daily intake...maybe just one dose higher to start and then eventually get up to the max dose of 300 daily... in divided doses. When I signed up for my ablation, I was taking the 300 daily and it still wasn't working. As you rby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
