Also - about donating blood. Here in the US there are numerous restrictions for why blood isn't acceptable...disease conditions, illness, medications, recent vaccines, etc... but there is a provision that you can request with most medical labs and that is to go in for phlebotomy and have them discard the blood. They may charge a minor fee. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
The hemochromatosis issue brings up the viscosity concern especially with afibbers and the tendency toward forming clots when blood becomes too viscous. Here's an entry from Garry Gordon's website on this topic addressing the viscosity issue. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
The following introduction arrived today by email from the Spacedoc website of Duane Graveline, MD (Author of Lipitor, Thief of Memory). He now has a group of guest contributors who offer some very interesting enlightenment. Definitely worth subscribing to his free online newsletter. Interesting to note the latest comment of a 2009 review: A new review has found that lowering blood pressure bby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Eric - why not just assume you have the Candida overgrowth, especially since you have the jock itch. Just start taking Candex - you can get it on Hans'website at a good discount... and I'd add some GSE as well as it is highly antifungal. Don't feed it while you are treating it or it's counterproductive. It will probably take a couple of months and at least 2 bottles of Canby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
It probably works by calming stress and in some individuals, that would be enough to slow HR and prevent the onset of AF. I recall using it early on with no effect...but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be helpful in some instances. Like so many of these remedies and suggestions, it's highly indivdualisitc... depending on the state of health in that particular situation. My stressby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Dick - that's complicated but the simplistic answer is that if one eats a carb load and to prevent a rapid insulin response which would be preferable, then it's better to eat the carb with a protein and fat to slow down the process. Otherwise, the carbs/simple sugars get processed very quickly and the insulin response can be exaggerated or overproduced to the point where it lowers bloby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Sharon - sorry you were sick, but great news that your recovery was speedy. The Oscillo is definitely helpful. Many of the doctors reporting on flu management this season are saying to take at the onset 50,000 IU vitamin D for 2 - 3 days along with a high potency probiotic. They indicate that this knocks out the virus. As a preventive measure, they are also recommending daily doses of vitby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Eric - carb sensitive could mean you have Candida overgrowth - esepcially with bloat after consuming. When there is yeast overgrowth, feeding the yeast with sugar/carbs allows it to expand rapidly and the yeast cells produce gas. This expansion has been connected to triggering afib. Just like the old fashioned way of making bread with yeast when you proof the dough... the yeast expands rapidlby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
For those calculating nutrient values of food, it's important to keep in mind these are only guidelines. Most of the evaluations for nutrient content were made many years ago- some over 50 or more. Nutritionists speaking on the topic today always mention that because of current overfarming of land, unless organic, most foods fall short of the original nutrient values stated in these earlyby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Gordon, have you ever had the Exatest? I can't recall. This would give a the ratio of sodium/potassium and IC potassium levels and give you an area on which to focus. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Nick - typically it is not advisable for males to take any supplemental iron after age 18 because of the risk of iron overload. Unless you have been instructed by your physician to do so as a result of a low hemoglobin count, you should refrain from any supplemental iron. Additionally, it's a good idea to have your ferritin levels checked and if high, donate blood. Healthy range is around thby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
You should probably calculate the carb content and then the glycemic index of one serving. Probably way too many carbs to do afibbers any good...especially since it takes potassium to metabolize all those carbs. Undoubtedly the yogurt also contains additional sugar in addition to the natural milk sugar. Low glycemic index or load foods are suggested as healthy eating for everyone and not jusby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Mark- the physical aspect of clot promoting in any body and not necessarily exclusively afibbers should always be recognized and that comes from blood with high viscosity and the silent inflammation factor.... or the tendency for blood platelets to be 'sticky.' It's disappointing to see all the references to CHADS etc without addressing the fundamental source of the problem... wby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Gordon - I presume your kidneys are healthy and are not the source of your hypertension. Get the book by Richard Moore, MD, PhD "The High Blood Pressure Solution - Natural Prevention and Cure with the K Factor." It's been out for years so you can find it online for a few dollars and it's worth its weight in gold. This is a brilliant book on the importance of potassium.by Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Kevin - it's actually reduced pumping ability out of the heart to the head because the atria are fibrillating so fast. Blood clearance is diminished and so we get those symptoms affected by lack of oxygen to the head/brain and those organs like eyes and ears. It's not fun. dc - I keep posting relentlessly in the hope that someone will actually read the posts and take it to 'heart'.... you absolutely have to start with low doses of magnesium - 200 mg and ramp up every 4 - 5 days until you reach bowel tolerance. Some people don't reach this until the dosing is 1000 or 1200 mg.. some even more. If you are a magnesium waster, the task is endless..by Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
dc - some people apparently self-convert out of flutter, but when I had my single occurrence of aflutter, I went to the CCF ER as instructed by my cardiologist. The ER cardiologists and later the EP assigned to me once I was admitted said that it is rare that people self-convert from aflutter. They tried chemical cardioversion and that didn't work. Thank you, Josiah. Eric - magnesium will help relax tense muscles and there are several other nutrients that help as well. The physical therapy may be a good start but if you can find a nutritionally oriented chiropractor who can assess the cervical and thoracic vertebrae, you may find that he can free that up so your fib either lessens or disappears. Helen - the risk/danger of a clot moving out of the left atrial appendage (LAA) comes when the heart goes from AF to NSR. As it pertains to electrical cardioversion, the Cleveland Clinic protocols are to use the TEE to determine the presence of a clot. If there is one, you go on Coumadin and wait until the INR is 2.0, and have the TEE. If no clot, then you can have the cardioversion. Thby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM

dc - you really need to have some validation of whether or not you are in flutter. Get ECG strip at your doctor's; ask for a holter monitor to wear, but get some idea of what the rhythm actually is. You really can't guess. If it is flutter, then most often, the cardiologists like to electrically cardiovert. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM

Barry - most likely it is helping to retain magnesium inside the cells along with potassium. If you tend to waste both electrolytes because of improper blood glucose handling (carb intake), the result can be the effects of insulin resistance.
