Hello Carol - Regarding this post and your initial post, I first want to welcome you and Dave to our group. Very sorry to read about Dave's struggles. I'll comment first on the new EP based on my own experiences and observations when mentioning functional or nutritional medicine versus allopathic medicine. I've had over 21 years to research and deal with afib since myby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Spekkles - I take between 600 and 800 mg a day of magnesium (sometimes more) and took the full dose Eliquis for 2 years and now, the half dose with no problems, even though I have a slightly low platelet count. I did not experience symptoms of unusual bruising or even with small cuts, the clotting time was normal. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
I've just added a few more tips and links to the original post that are related to the Clot Risk topic. Especially easy and economical, not to mention effective, is Earthing or Grounding. The link I've provided shows the effect on platelet aggregation before and after grounding... as documented by cardiologist, Stephen Sinatra. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
FJG - Welcome. It's great to see you've improved lifestyle habits. Always a good move regardless. There is always a potential for side effects when using Rx drugs. The antiarrhythmic and anticoagulants are no exception. And, it's also a fact that not everyone has the same side effects. I've been on a full dose and now, half dose of Eliquis and I've been plaguedby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Good that you posted this one. Since tumeric/curcumin has become such a buzz word in all the latest news on herbal supplements, it's important when purchasing to attempt to select from a bottler that has a long-standing reputation for quality control and purity assessment. Very cheap brands are likely sourced from areas with contaminated soil and often, water, as well and since turmericby Jackie - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Amy - it can take several months or more to optimize the intracellular magnesium stores that are the foundation that allows potassium to function in helping to normalize the time between heart beats and eliminate the PACs. While everyone is different in the amount of supplemental magnesium that's tolerated, your dose of 350 mg daily is still probably too low. Try increasing more of the biby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Ginny - The 2700 number you mention is the total in micrograms (mcg) that is contained in each capsule of that product. The vitamin K1 form is the one that interferes with warfarin and is found in leafy greens that patients need to avoid when using warfarin so it can function consistently. If you are taking warfarin, then that is probably why the doctor said to cut back on the Vitamby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Phill... then why not just stop the MK7 and see if you eliminate that activity; the MK4 has a much shorter half-life in the body so that's probably why the reports indicate what they do. The MK7 becomes very important when taking vitamin D supplements to help avoid arterial and soft tissue calcifications from extra circulating calcium.... thus the preventive in the MK7. Phill - Is the MK7 the only supplement you take? If you take a significant amount of Vitamin D, then the MK7 dosing should be at the higher level. Dosing recommendations vary according to the source. The optimal dose is 200 mcg..and often, it's recommended to take 90 or less. The famous Rotterdam study that put the spotlight on MK7 was done with 45 mcg. Consider stopping or cutby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Liz – My platelet count is the same as yours! 139. One lab indicates the range is 140 – 400 and another lab uses 150 as the lowest level. The low count does affect me when I’m using anticoagulants…especially warfarin…. and significantly, after my first ablation on warfarin. That gave me huge hematomas originating at the groin punctures that allowed blood to seep down the muscle fascia/tisby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks, George. I recall that and the fact that Shannon's Lariat procedure to close off the LAA leaked and the clot formed. He wasn't having afib; rather it was a 'mechanical failure.' He undoubtedly had a very large accumulation of debris as a result of that particular issue, unfortunately...and he certainly is fortunate to have survived the disaster. Steve - Most definitely, this is highly individualized. If flecainide works for you, that's absolutely great. My experience was that flecainide did not help with flutter. I experimented using the PIP with various doses... with and without the beta blocker. Even tried Rhythmol which was awful. + Nothing worked for the flutter. Clot risk Welcome to new readers! My focus on the Afibbers Forum is to create awareness over important issues related to Afib and overall health to promote longevity. Since we have many new readers joining us daily, this is an important reminder to be aware of the potential for risk of stroke or heart attack from blood clots that can form in the heart during prolonged bouts of atrial fby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM

smb - welcome. That's a lot of information. Could you please list separately the current meds you are using? On using the magnesium. Yes, it's very unfortunate that the majority of doctors and cardiologists do not recognize that the majority of afibbers are magnesium deficient and since it's such a critical nutrient to heart function... and many other functions as well, it makby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Travis - Doctors can order. It's not an uncommon test. Unfortunately, it's not typically considered a routine preventive but as a very important marker of inflammation, you'd think it would be one they'd want to monitor. Antioxidants help reduce inflammation and of course dietary choices. Vitamins such as C and D, keeping magnesium levels optimized, plenty of pure Oby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Starwarsfan.... Thanks for the details. To answer your question on flexeril, yes, I was prescribed that many years ago for fibromyalgia which was actually a misdiagnosis, so it did nothing for the FM but did make me feel terrible. One of the listed side effects is an irregular heart beat. Since you offer that you are tall and "big guy"... you might consider increasing your doby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Are you taking magnesium at bedtime? If so how much and what form? Consider soaking first in a warm Epsom Salts bath for relaxing. Also, consider the relaxing, anti-anxiety amino acid, L-theanine at bedtime. 200 mg - you may want to start earlier in the evening with a dose and then take one at bedtime as well. I can appreciate your dilemma especially when flying. Not sure if there is anything that changes that because the effect is hormonal (ANP and BNP).... but I'm wondering if you are using the supportive nutrients recommended just to help maintain and stabilize heart function with regard to arrhythmia? Anti-Fib.... You should probably discontinue the Epsom Salts baths and definitely any supplemental potassium until you check with your physician about the results you've quoted here. As George points out, there are many influences on kidney function and you need to evaluate each point he mentions. Hi Dennis - I have a reference to about 500 studies on vitamin D related to various health issues and I'm working on a report that lists some of them and the study titles just to point out the critical importance of testing for and increasing vitamin D levels to within the healthy range to help avoid many conditions that underlie lack of vitamin D. Anti-Fib - are you keeping up with the essential heart nutrients? My heart is calm after ablation #3 for 2 years now and 22 years after the fib event, but I notice that if I don't keep up with the optimal dosing of magnesium, potassium, carnitine, CoQ and taurine... when I settle in for sleep, I can feel a 'strong' heart beat. Ben - yes - definitely lighter weights and less intensity... plus less exercise time - overall. In the past, several posters who were avid weight lifters wrote in to say that Dr. Natale told them to not lift more than 50-75 pounds overhead or bench presses... and that excessive weights ... esp. over 100 pounds is bad for the heart as it causes both heart enlargement plus valve damage in addby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hello Rhonda - So sorry to read your report on Richard. Please give him my best wishes for a prompt solution. It certainly does sound as if he needs a pacemaker. What is your heart rate? You can take low doses of metoprolol to help slow the HR. I was very vagal and was able to use small amounts of metoprolol (12 mg - 25 mg) during the day to help when the PACs were overly annoying. Of course, we are all different in responses to drugs.
