Dan - It's probably wise to remember that the heart still needs the critical electrolytes it always needed both before and after ablation to ensure a smooth rhythm. Additionally, the same attention to reducing free radical damage from intense aerobic exercise is warranted. If you are back to an former lifestyle with none of the nutritional improvements that produce health, it isn'tby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Shaun - two cups is about right. Stay in the water at least 20 minutes if not longer. It would be an interesting experiment to see if it would convert a person in afib. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM

Steve - This may be a similar procedure to what you describe. Dr. Saltman is the leading EP for the microwave procedure. That said, I would caution you not to sign on with anyone without checking very, very throughly the procedure itself, and understanding just what is involved along with the risks and the predicted success rates of not only that particular procedure but the doctor doing itby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Mary Ann - Hans has an published an excellent PAC tamer which would serve also as an electrolyte booster drink at home as long as you add some supplemental magnesium glycinate to go along with it. You can read all about it here The important thing to remember is - magnesium and potassium inside the cells help create normal rhythm and function. James - Was there a particular reason you started the vegetarian diet? Many people do well on vegetarian and others really need more protein. Further, the milk proteins may cause you to consume too much in the way of free glutamates. We discuss this topic regularly and you may want to pursue going back to the BB before this one and reading what Fran has to say about free glutamates in food.by Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Shaun - Here are some random thoughts about your bloating/IBS situation. There is some discussion in nutritional medicine groups about intestinal dysbiosis that comes from too much intake of fructose - which is a form of sugar and permeates commercially prepared bakery, soft drinks, canned fruit etc. Bloating, GI distress and bouts of diarrhea are common. An average intake of fructose from wby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Emmie - your CardioX may be just what she needs - especially the magnesium portion as magnesium is usually low in migraine patients. I agree with George, soaking in magnesium (Epsom) would be excellent. There are studies relating migraines in children to allergies along with food toxicities from additives, etc. So look to intake of foods that may have chemicals, especially the glutamates we dby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Tony - sounds like pericarditis - inflammation around the heart - that has been reported by several people after ablation and causes severe pain. You should definitely be checked immediately. That type of pain is not normal. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Ed - knowing how well Pete did with his ablation and Dr. Callans and after I heard him speak last year at the AF Summit, I'd be very comfortable going to him and requesting he do the ablation. Good luck. I can understand your mindset at this point in time. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
John - welcome. Exertion on a hot day and the loss of electrolytes from sweating, plus accompanying dehydration probably set the stage for your afib. Some people with the same set of circumstances and a cold drink would find that to be a trigger. Could also have been anything in the coke - the cold, the caffeine or the sugar but it's not unusual for seniors to be low in electrolytes toby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM

Hi David - of course - it goes without saying that anyone who thinks they have any type of rhythm disturbance, should have a thorough checkup and an official diagnosis. It's foolish to do otherwise. Once one has a diagnosis to rule out anything other than lone AF, they can proceed by whatever mean they think is the best for them which may or may not be medication etc. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM

Nikki - I hear your frustration. Very basic fact: Stress depletes Magnesium. This isn't just an idea, it's written by the famous magnesium researchers, Seelig, Altura, Durlach, and others. Other things either deplete or compete with magnesium...like too much calcium and not enough magnesium. Feel free to rant any time. This is the place. Gosh, Jim - I can scarcely believe three years has passed since I met you and Diana the day before your procedure here in Cleveland; yet it seems very long ago, at the same time. Hi Jude - Oh, so sorry to read this. In my early afib career, my events would start like yours and I'd become very light-headed and think I was about to pass out...never did. At the first sign this might happen, I would always bend over at the waist to get more blood in my head and then sit down quickly. If needed, kept the head down longer. That helped greatly and I never did pass ouby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Cynthia - If this doesn't clear fairly soon, consider some of the nutrients that enhance circulation - ginkgo biloba, acetyl l-carnitine, phosphatidylserine. Do not take ginkgo if on coumadin. I took beta blockers for 4 years and antiarrhythmics (flecanide) for 4 years - my memory and recall was then and is now very good. But, I have always taken ginkgo biloba for enhanced microcirculby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Good post, Jim, and a reminder that the natural cures aren't really 'cures' but just steps to arrest the prevalence in occurrence. Remember both Fran and Erling 'cured' their afib with nutrition and diet, but each of them had break-through events when all the conditions were a 'go' for it to happen. This is an interesting speculation and certainly bacteria that cause inflammation are a viable consideration. Mark - I would expect that within a week or two at the most, you could be back to normal, barring any unforseen complications. We've stressed here quite frequently and often, rather emphatically, that ablation success and consideration should be choosing the EP who has done many - hundreds if not thousands and has a good track record not having adverse complications. Mary Ann - check out the latest conference room session which indicates some of the arthritis pain and symptoms can come from an intolerance to gluten found in grains. Eating Paleo or just eliminating the glutens may offer you significant relief and quite rapidly as well. George - I seem to recall Lynn of San Diego (who had her first ablation with Dr. Natale at Marin General) found that once the afib was ablated, she was left with flutter. I also believe she said that it is not uncommon for afib to be masking or covering up the flutter but once the afib is gone, the flutter continues. They did hers in two separate procedures.
