VOODOO HERBAL REMEDIES AND WARNINGS BY BILL SARDI From time to time, we have discussed interactions and warnings about herbal remedies including stains and coumadin. Once again, health journalist, Bill Sardi, has published an excellent review of how modern medicine handles herbals. Erling just made this comment in another post I have only respect for the scientists of medicine and their advancement of knowledge. The problem is the 'science' of medicine becomes corrupted in the 'practice' of medicine by pharmaceutical company profit motives. This is well documented. So, I thought Id follow up with some enlightenment from a 2003 publication on Snopes Urban Legendsby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Carol - Joyce..... I believe I read in his book - or another with a similar theory....that Blood types can also be on the "cusp" genetically of being an A or B etc. That is ...most of their genes are A and the blood typing comes out that way, but there are other recessive genes that come from other genetic sources that will act up for some people trying to adhere to a strict blood tyby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Todd - I don't think anyone - afibbers or not - should rely on Real Salt as a source of "important minerals." Afibbers should take supplemental electrolytes such as magnesium and get potassium from food. The trace amounts of minerals in Real last - while there - are minute when compared to the amount of sodium... and salt is salt is salt. I do agree that Real Salt is the heby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Michael - I'm glad to see you noted Erling's post. Surely, your increase in both magnesium and potassium are going to help, but I should once again caution afibbers about taking calcium-based products such as you mention - antacids. If you get heartburn, why not just neutralize with a small amount of baking soda...or if you must use a commercial product, try one without calcium. Acby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Liz - I can scarcely believe two months have gone by! I'm so happy to learn you are doing well and the quality of your life has improved so much. It seems to improve even more after six months, so you have much to which you can look forward. Enjoy your new life in NSR. Sincerely, Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Kerry - that's great to reduce the events. At least you are armed with good knowledge that you can put to use whenever the need arises. Thanks. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jim W.... maybe we have been zapping "bugs" all these years with the use of piezoelectric ultrasound handpieces.... and didn't know it. In any event... my use of ultrasound hand pieces didn't stop AF which is the point of our quests...right? Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Part I The recent HealthAlert Newsletter (May 2004) focuses the title page on cholesterol drugs. The author Dr. Bruce West contributes the following observations: (direct quotes, excerpts and paraphrasing by Jackie) April 8, 2004 - NEJM heralded a new era in drug therapy for heart patients with its PROVE-IT study article, Intensive Statin Therapy A Sea of Change in Cardiovascular Preventiby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Again, Erling... nice to see you posting and especially nice to learn you are doing so well. I'm impressed with the fact that you don't feel much different than 40 years ago.... wish I could say the same. Must be your good Norwegian genes! Wonderful testimonial. You are "cured" as far as I can see. We should all be so fortunate to follow your lead. Thanks again. Jaby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Erling.... it's nice to see you posting again. This is pretty powerful journalism, coming from an MD. Thanks. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
I have found an outstanding resource for statin information.... you can get lost here for days.... do check it out. Print articles and take to your doctor if you have concerns about being on a statin. Knowledge is power. Jackie Go here:by Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thor..... here are a few of the notes I have from previous posts... you can find more by doing a search here by author Jackie and Statins. I've been on the soap box alot over the dangers of statins...from my own experience and after reading Dr. Graveline's book. You've asked me at a good time. Lynn - I also have read the statement that Q is better absorbed with Vitamin E..... and I've also read advice to be sure Q is consumed with a meal that contains some good fat...for better absorption. In fact, some of the better Q brands are formulated with the addition of E... I just looked at Metagenics and it has 30 IU of E. I believe Natural Factors also has E added.... Super. But, if you stay on statins, you need to seriously consider taking the higher doses of CoQ10 so you don't do harm to your liver, muscles, memory, etc. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
PC - thanks for your input....so for you, a banana split would be good! I take magnesium taurate or just taurine separately.... but could easily switch to magnesium potassium taurate - as you mention. I think that both magnesium and taurine are still very important to my heart health especially after ablation.... and I absolutely know for certain that extra potassium keeps the ectopics to aby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Kerry - Thanks for your testimonial. I truly believe John Sarno and you are living proof of his work. Tell me, have you applied it to AF - what did you do and does it work? Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
John - Statins ARE scary....and not just a bit. And when you consider that CoQ10 is depleted because of statins, and muscle weakness and/or actual muscle destruction is possible, it's even more so.... especially since the heart is a muscle... it doesn't make sense to deplete intentionally a substance on which the heart depends for healthy functioning. PC - off hand and without doing alot of extra work here, can you explain the cautionary statement I've recently quoted about not taking too much potassium in the form of potassium chloride..... my natural health supplement book by Michael Murray ND, indicates side effects of GI distress, abdominal pain, ulcerations, etc.... Hi MIke - Thankd you for your kind comment. I'm delighted to learn you are doing well and in NSR...another success story! First, let me ask why your cardiologist has you on Lipitor. If you remain on Lipitor, it probably will be necessary to take two or three times the amount of 100 mg. because of the depletion caused by Lipitor. 100 mg. is good preventive maintenance just for healthby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
