Cardizem is a brand name for diltiazem, which isn't an antiarrhythmic. Diltiazem slows your heart rate and lowers your BP but it doesn't directly prevent arrhythmias. It's commonly used to treat afib because of the rate lowering properties. This may help people convert back to normal rhythm and for some people it may help them avoid an afib episode, but strictly speaking it is notby Carey - AFIBBERS FORUM
Quotecalvin I looked up Dr Natale and where he works, it appears there are many doctors in the same clinic. Are you able to choose Natale as opposed to the other EP? I asked my EP about a study and he said they only do a certain procedure , I think he said pulmonary node ablation? He stated this when I asked about a ablation study? He said electrical currents are transient and the study is flaby Carey - AFIBBERS FORUM
Quotecalvin Not that I have found. I contacted 3 different providers in the US and they averaged 75,000USD which is about 100.000CD As a Canadian we do not have private health care plans maybe you saying $45,000 is a co pay? Any way thanks for the comment its still out of my budget. $45K isn't a co-pay, it's the last price I heard quoted that they will charge for self-pay patients. Iby Carey - AFIBBERS FORUM
Quotecalvin I even searched for an EP in Guadalajara Mexico because I know some doctors there. The EP I talked to said he had been doing ablations for 15 years and could do mine in 10 days time!....but the cost was 45,000USD which is beyond my budget. So I am stuck with the Canadian system of waiting . $45K in Mexico?!! That's nuts! You can get an ablation with Natale in Texas for that priby Carey - AFIBBERS FORUM

The key phrase is "the people here." The people here are a very unique subset heavily biased toward failed ablations. The majority of people who undergo ablation have a successful result and never even look for a forum like this. Almost nothing in medicine comes with a hard, single number. The human body and medical science are simply too complex for that to be possible, and remember how those numbers are derived in the first place. They all come from statistical samples of data, and never from a measurement of all the procedures performed by every doctor in the world. But for most people considering an ablation the nby Carey - AFIBBERS FORUM

Cardioversions do nothing to treat afib or to prevent it from happening again. Their sole purpose is to stop the arrhythmia right now, but unless an antiarrhythmic drug is being given then there is a very slim chance that will last long. There are outlier stories of people who remained in NSR for months and even years without antiarrhythmic drugs but those are few and far between. A forum likby Carey - AFIBBERS FORUM

You need to see a local cardiologist and get a basic workup first, and have that pacemaker interrogated to determine its status. You can't go rushing off looking for another ablation without even knowing what these palpitations you're feeling are and what's causing the chest discomfort.by Carey - AFIBBERS FORUM
I've never used either of these splitters but I have a splitter than uses a similar mechanism for centering the pill as the cheaper one here, and I threw that splitter away. It looks like it should center the pill but in practice it doesn't, especially not with non-round pills.by Carey - AFIBBERS FORUM
I agree that Aikido shouldn't be a contraindication for anticoagulants unless maybe you're practicing at a competitive level. At worst I would expect maybe more bruising but unless Aikido is a lot more aggressive than I think and comes with severe head blows, I wouldn't let it stop me. People tend to way overestimate the risks of anticoagulants. There are few sports that need to beby Carey - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thank you, George! We depend 100% on donations to cover our operating costs which, like everything else, have gone up substantially lately and donations are typically rather slow during the holidays so we're running on fumes. Plenty of fat people have afib, but most don't. Plenty of skinny people have afib, but most don't. Plenty of athletes have afib and plenty of couch potatoes have afib, but most don't. My prediction is that in the end it will boil down to a combination of genetics and environment. You have to have the wrong genes to begin with in order to be susceptible to it, and then yoby Carey - AFIBBERS FORUM

Yes, the blanking period logic would apply to any type of ablation. I don't think a cardioversion would help. PACs and PVCs aren't sustained arrhythmias so I think cardioversion would be a very temporary solution.by Carey - AFIBBERS FORUM
QuoteDaisy Interesting. How do they check for LVAs, low voltage areas? If you scroll down and read the full paper, the methods section explains it. Basically, they did an EP study followed by a PVI. The EP study provided voltage mapping. In my case, you can easily see it with a standard ECG. I have very small P waves, indicating low voltages in my atria. Most patients end up waiting a couple of months. As George mentioned, they can speed things up if the situation warrants, but it doesn't sound like you have a need for that. I'm a little surprised by the April/May timeframe for a consult. That's the soonest they can manage?by Carey - AFIBBERS FORUM
I don't need the last word and I'm fine with everyone going with their own opinion, and definitely with going with how they feel. Quotemjamesone My opinion and experience is similar to what Dr. John Mandrola states here. I'm afraid I'm not a fan of Dr. Mandrola. His brand is to write contrarian articles in layman publications criticizing whatever leading EPs are doing lately, quite often without doing the research needed to know what he's talking about.
