No, there's no official number. It's a very individual thing. Someone who's very asymptomatic might hardly even notice they're in afib so a 20% burden might seem like nothing to them while someone else who's highly symptomatic might find 2% utterly intolerable. There really isn't much of a concept of serious vs. not serious with afib, except for those people whoseby Carey - AFIBBERS FORUM
Just because Kardia can't make a diagnosis doesn't make the recordings useless. A human can make sense of them, but not if you stop recording. There could be a number of things going on here and having someone look at a few recordings might be helpful. Those fast runs you think are flutter could be v-tach, for example, which your doc would definitely want to know about.by Carey - AFIBBERS FORUM
Well, the diuretic that's almost always the one used "as needed" is Lasix. So maybe that's what your doc meant about still needing it: Spiro for daily use and Lasix on occasions when you need more.by Carey - AFIBBERS FORUM
QuoteJoe Being physically active all day? Bingo. Same story with Asians and rice, which that guy totally overlooks. For thousands of years Mexicans and Asians spent their days doing physical labor dawn to dusk, and typically ate one or two meals per day (if they were lucky) composed primarily of cheap carbs, root vegetables, and whatever green vegetables, fruits, and nuts they could forage.by Carey - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
I've never seen or even heard of a bite guard being used, and I've seen a lot more than I've undergone myself in EMS. Must be a local thing.by Carey - AFIBBERS FORUM
QuoteMadeline Am I mainly supposed to worry about the need for a blood thinner bec of a past hx of afib? Yes. The CHADS scoring system was designed specifically for people with a history of some type of atrial arrhythmia. It gets applied in other areas of cardiology, but it really just doesn't apply to people who have no history of heart problems. Does your CHADS score still apply to yby Carey - AFIBBERS FORUM
I promise your body jerked. You don't come off the table or anything like Hollywood would have you believe, but there's definitely a body-wide jerk, even with people in cardiac arrest. I was cardioverted 2 days after my first ablation, and the muscle contractions were strong enough to cause my left insertion site to open up and begin bleeding.by Carey - AFIBBERS FORUM
Well, they're pretty much the same except lasix works faster and leaves your system faster. But over the course of a few days the end result will be the same. I'm not sure what you mean by "as needed" in the case of a diuretic, but I suppose you could do the same. Just don't expect as rapid results.by Carey - AFIBBERS FORUM
Quotebettylou4488 I wonder if you can take Spiro on and off like the Lasix. Well, you could, but that will just lower your blood volume and BP while you're taking it and the day after stopping it you'll gain all that water right back and your BP will go right back up. Why would you want to do that?by Carey - AFIBBERS FORUM
I understand you're going to require a lower dose than someone like me, but I don't think 40 of propofol would fully anesthetize almost any adult, so it's no surprise to me that it didn't. It was just the way I interpreted what you wrote. Going with a lower dose because of the valium makes sense, but I think he went too low. As for Brevital, it's not better or safer, aby Carey - AFIBBERS FORUM
You see those patients on youtube with their eyes open because a lot of ERs use conscious sedation instead of full anesthesia. They're not fully knocking them out, which is why you often see them groan and gasp when the shock is delivered. Personally, I think using conscious sedation for a cardioversion is borderline barbaric. There's just no reason to do something that painful withby Carey - AFIBBERS FORUM
I've taken both. I spent a year or two with each of them both as a BP med and an intentional attempt to maximize my potassium levels. The big difference between spiro and Lasix is Lasix is much faster acting. Lasix will remove in a few hours as much water as spiro will all day. So I definitely wouldn't call spiro the "big guns" as compared to Lasix. Quite the opposite, realby Carey - AFIBBERS FORUM
In addition to causing a loss of consciousness in sufficient doses, propofol also causes amnesia. That and the fact that it's a white liquid is why it's known as the "Milk of Amnesia." So you can't trust anything you remember (or don't remember) after that first injection. I must say I don't understand their dosing procedure if you remember correctly. Iby Carey - AFIBBERS FORUM
Quotedeanpaul Started back on Propafenone last night and this morning and now NSR restored. Does this possibly mean the antiarrythmic was just covering up AF during blanking period? Thought I was a good candidate for successful ablation and will have to decide if just bad luck or the EP is not as good as advertised. Yes, it's quite possible the smooth sailing was due to the propafenone,by Carey - AFIBBERS FORUM
I agree it's too early to be talking a repeat procedure, but not TOO too soon. You're out of the blanking period and as soon as you stopped the antiarrhythmic, afib reappeared. I would give it more time to find out often the episodes are going to occur and how long they're going to last, but I would recommend bringing the subject up with the EP. I would also ask him to prescribby Carey - AFIBBERS FORUM
Since Didi mentioned her LAA being isolated I think she's asking about the protocol for doing dental surgery while on anticoagulants. That's a tricky issue for people who've had their LAA isolated during an ablation if they either don't know how well their LAA is pumping afterwards or don't meet the minimum numbers required to come off anticoagulants. Quotesusan.d Questions: Why was I repeatedly asked when I was directed to a room if this was my first moderna or second dose? Aren’t they the same liquid volume? Yeah, it's the same dose, but they're trying to keep track of who's had what doses and make sure people get both doses but only both, not one and not three or four. Basically, the problem is that while on a BB your body produced more adrenaline to try and compensate for it being blocked by the BB. After years of this, producing excess adrenaline became the norm for your body. So that's what you're feeling now -- a constant fight-or-flight reaction due to excess adrenaline. I've known other people who've gone through this and it can take mby Carey - AFIBBERS FORUM

QuoteElizabeth Thanks. Why didn't they use the dead viruses in the vaccine, is the mRNA a better way, it does sounds like it. Time and safety. Going with a killed/weakened virus vaccine probably would have taken years because it's complicated finding just the right mix of killed/weakened virus that's actually effective (and sometimes none of them are), and it also has to havby Carey - AFIBBERS FORUM

QuoteElizabeth Doesn't sound like the vaccine gives you antibodies, operates a little differently. Yes, the way an mRNA vaccine works is a bit different from older vaccines, but the end result is the same. There is no vaccine that provides you with antibodies. They all cause your body to make the antibodies itself. Most vaccines do this because they contain either dead viruses or liveby Carey - AFIBBERS FORUM
The pause in your recording is due to the PVC that precedes it. A pause is normal following a PVC because PVCs are kind of like reboots of the heart. Your ventricles have to recharge before they can contract again, so you end up "skipping" a beat. That's the flat stretch between the red lines in your recording. No, not common, but it is a simple, cheap, and safe way to increase BP. No woman past the age of menopause should be avoiding calcium. In fact, I don't know where the notion that people with afib should avoid calcium comes from.by Carey - AFIBBERS FORUM
Repeat: There have been no deaths attributed to the vaccine and that includes Norway. It's not in the least bit surprising that if you start a vaccine campaign by vaccinating millions of the oldest, frailest, and sickest, you're going to get some deaths following the vaccine and that's going to happen even if you give them nothing at all. Quotesusan.d How did you calculate it so I can learn? It was 3 beats between each large square. Simple. I counted the beats in a 5-second period. There were 15 beats, so 15 x (60 seconds / 5 seconds) = 15 x 12 = 180. Doing it that way averages out beat-to-beat variation and makes it unnecessary to do careful measurements or count little boxes.
