Good call Anti-Fib, < "To the Editor: A 61-year-old woman with a history of atrial fibrillation, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and hyperlipidemia presented with an erythematous, edematous, pruritic eruption on the chest, neck, and arms of 2 weeks’ duration. Clay, Was that Roy Walford? < He was Longo's mentor a UCLA. What Longo says caloric restriction (typically 20 or 30% less than normal) is the upregulation of autophagy, apoptosis & mitophagy followed by the rebuilding of structures from stem cells. Caloric restriction (CR) is effective for extending lifespan. It turns out you can get most or all of the benefit of Cby GeorgeN - AFIBBERS FORUM
Clay, In March I did a detailed 14 day food diary using a gram scale and chronometer.com for an engineer in Australia who is developing a nutrient optimizer. This was prior to my fasting cycles. I have now upped animal protein and carbs when I eat (to activate stem cell rebuilding), though these would likely still be low by most standards. These numbers do not include supplements, which Iby GeorgeN - AFIBBERS FORUM
Liz, For me, afib control has 3 components: 1. don't train or do long duration endurance exercise (as this plus genetics brought me to the afib party) - my limits here are actually pretty high 2. keep well repleted with magnesium 3. keep calcium intake very moderate. At least in the short term, I could likely eat & drink (including alcohol) anything in any quantity and it wby GeorgeN - AFIBBERS FORUM
Looks like Marco Perez at Stanford is looking at stem cells & afib <by GeorgeN - AFIBBERS FORUM
Valter Longo of USC has been doing research on fasting/refeeding cycles, most of the data are from mice with a few small scale human trials (feasibility studies, really). The interesting thing is that many body systems, like heart, liver & immune systems shrink during fasting, but upon refeeding stem cells are activated to rebuild the shrunken systems, as if from a much younger being. Here is a lay person opinion. Amiodarone can cause bradycardia "sinus bradycardia has been seen in 2 to 5%." < Also, I'm not an EP, but I don't see the point of continuing to give someone a rhythm med (Amiodarone) if it isn't keeping the person in rhythm. Georgeby GeorgeN - AFIBBERS FORUM
I've not heard anyone report that low, but yes I have heard of 70. Doesn't mean it can't happen. Are you on any rate control type meds (beta blocker or calcium channel blocker)? Georgeby GeorgeN - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Peggy, Great to see your posts. Dean, I have no idea why someone with no episodes is at risk!!!! I'm not quite in your shoes, but have had 3 episodes in 4 years totaling 2.5 hours. I will not take anticoagulation. Are you still eating natto? Georgeby GeorgeN - AFIBBERS FORUM
This thread < was on the topic. In my post, I have used Goldpharma to buy flec for quite a few years. However, because of US banking regs, you now have to do an international wire transfer so a Canadian Pharmacy would be easier. Don't know about the cost of anything but flec. A friend has used Canada Drugs for hormones for years.by GeorgeN - AFIBBERS FORUM
Liz, Ha ha, that would be funny! In what I've researched, most low blood sugar is caused by a late (meaning a significant time after food is consumed) insulin response that is ultimately too large and drops the blood sugar. In my case, I've trained my system over time to exist in a low insulin state most of the time. Also to easily produce plenty of ketones when food is abseby GeorgeN - AFIBBERS FORUM
Liz, Dr. Gundry actually suggests glucosamine, MSM & etc. He told us to eat shrimp shells when we eat shrimp. He mentioned that he developed this lectin shield product because about 50% of his patients weren't helped by the aforementioned. He also said he preferred that we avoid lectins, not take the product and go ahead and eat them. He says he uses his own product when he travelby GeorgeN - AFIBBERS FORUM
From family history, I'm not starting with the best hand. My dad passed from cancer and mom had cancer and dementia when she passed of a respiratory infection. Liz, Certainly some of his patients have had poor diets before transitioning to Gundry's program. Others, however, have been on what would generally be considered very good diets. All foods have lectins. Gundry's point is for humans, some we've had hundreds of thousands or millions of years to adapt to, others are very recent on an evolutionary scale (nightshades, which areby GeorgeN - AFIBBERS FORUM
My wife and I have been a patient of Dr. Gundry's for several years. I've known a number of people who've been greatly helped by following his program. In addition to what Clay & Jackie have noted, excess drinking can block your liver from releasing stored glucose into your bloodstream, causing hypoglycemia. So it may be nighttime hypoglycemia which can also be a trigger. Ten or so years ago here, I was going back and forth with a fellow from Wales. He said the only time he got afib was after a night at the pub. I suggested he might adby GeorgeN - AFIBBERS FORUM
Been visually doing that with a R to R recording Polar heart rate monitor for many years. Afib on a heart rate vs. time on rhythm strip (tachogram) stands out like a sore thumb. See CR 52 & 52a. Now use a phone app with a Polar strap for the same purpose. You can also do this, but not as well with some of the recording apps that use the phone's camera & light as a plethysmograph.by GeorgeN - AFIBBERS FORUM
I've had afib for nearly 13 years. After a 2 1/2 month episode in the first 4 months, I've kept it in remission with magnesium to bowel tolerance, though recently have reduced, but still a high dose of 1.5 g/day (did use as high as 5.5 g/day). Except for an 18 month period when I was consuming too much calcium from wheels of brie, my afib has been well controlled. When I do have an eby GeorgeN - AFIBBERS FORUM

Dr. Peter Backx is an EP researcher who also is an endurance athlete and ablated afibber. I thought this was an interesting interview - here is the transcript. I'd say it is highly individual. Was wine a trigger before ablation for you? Since being diagnosed nearly 13 years ago, alcohol has never been a trigger for me (always in moderation). For others it can be.by GeorgeN - AFIBBERS FORUM
QuoteClayS And there are some folks on this board who have come pretty close to doing that - Shannon had a pretty good run and GeorgeN is a total madman (that's a huge compliment) - but I realized that I couldn't maintain anything more extreme than I had done and that the likelihood of my "curing" my afib via lifestyle changes was much slimmer than success via ablation. Hi Carol, I recall talking with you years ago about Dr. Svinarich. My personal opinion is most docs don't know much about supplements.
