Tony, My non medical opinion is that a rate of 80 doesn't require rate control. Georgeby GeorgeN - AFIBBERS FORUM
Liz, I ran an Exatest 12 1/2 years ago. It showed may mag at the very bottom of normal. Taking mag has allowed me to stay in afib remission for over 12 years, so I assume this would show better if I resampled. However, for me, the Exatest was hard to come by. Had to go to a cash only integrative doc which pretty expensive and the test was expensive for me. So I've never repeated. Iby GeorgeN - AFIBBERS FORUM

In one sense the EP is correct. The body works very hard to maintain the serum magnesium level. Low serum is low, but OK serum may still mean low cellular levels. Jackie will suggest an Exatest for intra cellular levels (which have been correlated with intracellular levels in the heart). It is likely the best test, however magnesium guru Carolyn Dean MD says an acceptable test is RBC magnesiby GeorgeN - AFIBBERS FORUM
QuoteSteveW I’m exercising regularly and trying to limit stress. I know lack of sleep can also be a trigger. I’m also wondering about a connection to GERD, which is an issue for me. Excessive endurance exercise can cause issues. It was my ticket to afib. As part of my afib remission strategy, I detrained. Though very still active I do not train or compete with endurance activities. If a parby GeorgeN - AFIBBERS FORUM
When I first had afib, nearly 13 years ago, it would work. For the first 2 months I would have episodes every 10-12 days and I could terminate them with exercise (sometimes a full on sprint or hard run). Then I had an episode that lasted 2 1/2 months and would not convert. I converted it with flecainide and then started my remission program - detraining, magnesium to bowel tolerance and an oby GeorgeN - AFIBBERS FORUM
For an ablating EP, suggest Sabine Ernst < at Royal Brompton < My ticket to afib was also chronic fitness at 49. I'm now 61. My ticket into afib remission was a) chemically (flecainide) converting my 2 1/2 month episode (which started 2 months after my first afib episode) to NSR, b) supplementing with magnesium to bowel tolerance, c) a prescription for flecainide on-demand if Iby GeorgeN - AFIBBERS FORUM
Linda, It is common for digestion issues in some people to stimulate the vagus nerve and be a trigger or at least cause Pac's. GERD, gas & etc, too. I recall there was a discussion in CR61 < My experience with various vagal triggers is that I'm sensitive to them when my electrolytes are imbalanced (primarily magnesium -too little and calcium - too much). QuoteMarkF786 - Have others had success with taking Flecainide only once a day, before bed? It's worked for me and the doctor didn't care if I tried that approach first. - If taking Flecainide once a day and at a low dose (50 - 75mg), do I really need the Diltiazem? Castaway, From what I've learned, losing weight is a matter of getting insulin down. Drivers of insulin include refined carbohydrates, starches and, to a lessor extent, protein. In this talk, Barbara Corky (researcher) notes that food additives may also be a driver < So the first order of business is to eat real, unprocessed food, while minimizing excess refined carbs. Hi Gill, Natale & Shannon seem to like ELIQUIS (apixaban). No personal experience, but from what I gather - it has a shorter half life. One issue with the NOAC's is a lack of an antidote, so a shorter half life is a benefit if there is a bleed. Cheers, Georgeby GeorgeN - AFIBBERS FORUM

I think the AliveCor is wonderful. However, I've also used a $5 iPhone app, Stress Doctor. I wrote about it here: < It uses the iPhone camera to generate a pulse wave from the pulse in your finger. Kittay, An adrenergic trigger is from over-activity in the sympathetic nervous system. I'm guessing your anxiety/stress may qualify in this regard. So the correlation of the start of your arrhythmia with the start of taking lexapro may be from the anxiety. One thought is that stress can deplete magnesium. OK, your being able to stop it with your thumb sounds like you have an adrenergic trigger < . Other vagal maneuvers may also stop it - bearing down, carotid artery massage, submerging your face in ice water. Have you excluded WPW (Wolfe Parkinson White) illness? WPW patients have multiple pathways in their AV nodes. They can have high atrial rates. If it is this, the ablation fix is much easier than afib ablation. Georgeby GeorgeN - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hey Anne, No experience, but some thoughts. My big concern would be the limitations on treatment. For example, I've used relatively high dose magnesium for 12 years to keep my afib in remission. Since whatever the baby would see would be from my serum, which is never out of line, I would not worry. Liz, I can only comment on my experience. I've taken lots of mag for over 12 years. At times around 5.5 g/day. Now around 2.4g/day. No sign of intolerance. Early on, I'd had two years with no afib (after an initial 2 1/2 month episode). I thought I was "cured." I stopped all supplements including mag. I had afib within 48 hours (might have been 24 hrs). Travis, Could be very individual. This way my approach to attacking the problem. The Holter result after my first afib episode, 12 1/2 years ago, was an average of 24 PVC's and 2 PAC's hour.
