I was cardioverted last thrusday, I arrived at 9:30 AM., it took the team an hour and a half to prep me for my 11:00 A.M cardiovert. They ran a ECG and also an Echo, I was given a drug to put me out before they put in the tee and cardioverted me. When I woke up it was all over, I felt nothing. I left around 2:00, so I was there about 4 and a 1/2 hours. When you go to the ER, I am sureby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Susan: You are only in AF for 1 hour when you go to ER? They don't cardiovert you after only 1 hr. in AF do they? Most of us wait our AF episodes out. Sorry about your foot. Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
If 50 Joules doesn't convert you isn't that a waste of time.? Also were you in AF or flutter, I read that lower doses of Joules are used to convert if you are in flutter.by Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks Susan, I guess I didn't pay that much attention to the results before, if my doctor didn't say anything I just assumed everything was ok. Now with the computer and the portal in which results are posted I am paying closer attention. Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Carey and AFib Thank you both so much, I had a bad day yesterday I thought I might have had a heart attack and wondered why U of Michigan didn't talk to me about it. Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM

Daisy: Sometimes when a person is cardioverted they can have a burn on their chest but you wouldn't want it directly on your heart.by Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
There is a book written by Dr. Kenneth Kensey called 'The Blood Thinner Cure" he says that giving blood a couple of times a year thins your blood, there was a study in Finland saying that those that gave blood had less heart attacks and strokes. The more red blood cells you have the thicker your blood. Lizby Elizabeth - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Anti-Fib Are you still in NSR, I suppose your doctor doesn't like you stopping your anti-coagulant after 3 weeks, I don't like taking it but I guess I would wait longer to thinking about stopping it. Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Wolfpack: I talked to a nurse today in the electro lab and she said they usually always start at 200, that usually converts==also I misspoke about the top that they used as being 500, that isn't correct, the top is 360. Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
I had my first Cardioversion today, I don't think I ever had my BNP checked, I thought that was mainly to detect for heart failure. They ran an Echo on me before my Cardioversion, I thought that was good. Liz Tom: Sorry, I didn't know your story, I went back and did some reading. Good luck to you and thanks for posting your story.by Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Carey: Well, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but I hope I won't need another one. I asked one of the people that were in the room about the Joules and that is what she told me. Lby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
I like the Mediterranean diet way of eating, lots of veggies, fruits, beans, eggs, potatoes, fish, meat, seeds, I eat whole grain breads. I don't get pacs, taking magnesium took care of that. I don't eat cereal though, I don't like milk, I have never tried almond milk, it just reminds me of milk and I don't care to try it, I eat eggs for breakfast. Whoopee all done: I am in. NSR, the prep took quite a while then I was knocked out, they did the tee while I was out and then the joules. They said I was clean no clots, the levels are 200, 300 and around 500, I was cardioverted at 200. I had this done at U of Michigan hospital in Ann Arbor. I hope the NSR stays, I am going to get my thyroid level checked as I am sure that is what put meby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
I go for my Cardioversion tomorrow, it is scheduled for 11:00 A.M., I am not supposed to eat or drink anything after 12:00 midnight, they will be using a tee. That will be a long time for me to go without food, I will be getting up around 6:30, would it be ok to drink some OJ at that time? I just talked to U of M and they said no food or drinks after 8hrs. to tee time. I will be glad when itby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Carola: There was a post on here by Jackie a few months ago in which she has talked about natural blood thinners like Nattokinase and also one called Boluoke. There have been a few posters on here that eat Natto most everyday which they said stopped their AF, Dean is one. If you put Dean and Natto in the search engine it will bring up posts. Anti-Fib said: { If your AFIB is rate controlled, and not a very high rate, then it may feel relatively normal, as far as the spacing between beats. BP machines are not accurate for detecting AFIB, that is relatively evenly spaced. It has been my experience that after the 1st 12 or so hours, an AFIB episode becomes less noticeable as time goes on. This is mainly because of the rate-control druby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thank you George---You took Flec. without being in the hospital initially, which I guess that is the way the drug is prescribed. When I got episodes and went back into NSR my AF was very easy to feel. Now after being in Permanent AF, it is hardly noticeable, when I sit or don't do a lot of walking or physical things , I then take my pulse and it feels normal. I have a machine that takes mby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
George: When you were in AF for 2 1/2 months and went back in NS rhythm did it happen all at once or was your heart in NSR off and on until your heart finally stayed in NSR? Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Todd: I am not on a Keto diet, i eat meat, eggs, beans, all fruits and veggies, starches like bread, some potatoes. Thank you, i did look at the pics, there are so many kinds of rashes and some look like mine, but my rash began after I started Eliquis. I just quit the Eliquis and started on Xaralto, I still have the rash/itchy so will see if it will subside. Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
There is no reversal agent for Xarelto, is that right? Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Carey: Well, I just spoke with the doc. at the anti-coagulation clinic and she is switching me to Xarelto to see if my rash will clear up. Now Carey did you talk to her (just kidding, need a little levity). Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Dr. SIanjay Gupta says that AFdoes not cause strokes, it is the cormorbilities that cause strokes If you have high blood pressure, diabetes, heart failure, age. There have been studies done, one in 1987 in the New England Journal of Medicine where they took people age 60 and under who had AF , which they followed for 15 years only 1.3% had a stroke. Another survey was run in 2007 on older peopby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Smackman:: I have Silverscript as well, I go for a Cardioversion on the 16 of this month, hopefully I will convert. I will try to get the Watchman , I cannot keep taking this blood thinner, I have a very itchy rash that isn't getting better seems like whatever minor problem I may have had this drug is making it worse. The drug companies and ins. companies are crooks. Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Carey:: I am over 80, I weigh a few lbs over 132, I weigh 138, my Creatinine is 0.89, the lab value is 0.60 - 88 mg/dl , so I think I should be taking the 2.5 Eliquis . The doctor I spoke with is a Pharmacist in the anti-coagulant division of U of M, he was a little unsure about prescribing the 2.5 mg. he had recommended Xarelto first, said they were the same. I guess it doesn't matteby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thank you for your response Jackie. Did you have nose bleeds before you took Eliquis? The last blood draw my Platelet count is still low, just below the bottom limit. I have taken the B vitamins since my 20s, my B12 is usually over the lab limit, so I am good on the Bs. I was reading that in Australia they put those that are over a certain age on 2.5 mg. of Eliquis not the 5 mg. Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
I take Snythroid for my thyroid, if I took 135 mcg. every day I would become hyper and all kinds of problems would arise. I take 125mcg. and I am ok. I think the dosage of a drug is important, but I do understand what Carey is saying that it is the drug itself not the amount taken that is causing problems. Those other anti-coagulants and Eliquis are all similar, are they not, but it is worthwhby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
If Jackie is reading this perhaps she will tell us if reducing her Eliquis from 5.0 mg. to 2.5 was of help to her. Jackie was put on 5.0 mg. of Eliquis and was finally dropped to 2.5mg. I recall that she was having nose bleeds. Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
I didn't drink milk as a kid because I didn't like it and still don't, I did take cal. tabs during my 20s, 30s and 40s, so I did take them for quite a while, but I didn't use very much dairy. I have been eating cheese as a snack, that is about the only dairy that I have been taking until I stopped it a week ago hoping I can get back into NSR, but no luck so far. I went to the ER tonight because earlier I had blood in my bathroom stool, it was a bright red, it came from my Anus. They checked me and I explained also that the last couple of weeks I had a hemmeroid I haven't had any problems like that in years and years, I checked out ok but I was told to get a colonoscopy, which I will do.
