Madeline: The only thing Beta Blockers are used for in AF is if you have a high heart rate, otherwise it doesn't stop it. An anti-arrhythmic drug is used to shorten or stop an episode of AF, that is what Propafenone is for. You could use an anti-arrhythmic drug as a pill-in-the-pocket, take it only when you get an episode of AF. I have done what another poster has said he does which isby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Madeline: If your heart rate isn't high when you are in AF, why do you need a beta blocker? That is the last drug I would take, a number of years ago when I first got AF my doctor put me on a beta blocker, I felt terrible, tried and then I got a first degree heart block. I went to a EP I read on my chart that he said my first degree heart block was probably due to the beta blocker and Iby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM

(150mg.) before bedtime, that is all I take, since I get my episodes in the evening that is when I need it. 225 mg. twice a day is a lot, I couldn't take that much, there is a beta blocker in propafenone,. Good article about vit. C, I wonder if all of the fruit and berries I eat in the summer is why I get hardly any AF during those months. I raise strawberries, blueberries and raspberries, grapes, peaches and apples. I forgot about taking a vit C supplement until just this past month, I got a spray Vit. C. I think we all should take a Vit. C supplement, if we don't. Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Has anyone read any writings about health by Dr. Bruce West? He has sent literature about medical diseases and has cures by his protocol, he says he has a nutritional protocol that can improve nerve stimulation of the heart for atrial fibrillation which he says is an epidemic. I believe I will buy a subscription to his Health Alert unless somebody has some dire news about this guy. Lizby Elizabeth - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM

Vitamin D is the only vitamin that the body makes--- 10 to 20 min. of sunshine is all it takes. In the final stage of the process, the liver and kidneys convert that vitamin D into yet another form of the vitamin -- vitamin D3, the active form of the vitamin that our bodies can use. You need just 10 to 20 minutes of sunlight a day to ensure that your body is producing enough vitamin D.by Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM

There are a lot of posts on here that are giving very good outcomes after having an ablation and apparently with Dr. Natalie that is so. Even with Dr. Natalie many have had to get 2 and 3 ablations then some have to have their LAA worked on and then are on blood thinners for life, either that or have a Watchman installed. There have been problems with that device also, perhaps this new watchmaby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM

Sure, the longer I live the more apt I am to get some kind of disease, the more I drive my car the more chance of getting in an accident, don't know the percentages of that but it is there. We can go on and on with this kind of maybe, perhaps. Also, I would say the longer one would be on a blood thinner the more a chance of getting a bleed, there are also numerous reports of getting a stroby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
We read about people that do a lot of exercise which leads to their getting AF, actually running is not supposed to be that good for you. I don't recall the name of that guy that was a runner and wrote a book about it, he dropped dead I believe in his 50s, I knew a man that golfed at the club I golfed at, he was a runner, he too dropped dead while running, a fast walk is better. Carey said the following: I've never had a weight problem, my BP was fine up until a couple of years ago, I eat a good diet, I exercise regularly including 100+ miles per week on a bike, and I stopped all alcohol for a while to see if that mattered. Nope. Made no difference. This whole theory that afib is a lifestyle disease is a crock, in my opinion. Lifestyle can influence it and make itby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Well then, there are 9% of people over 65. I also believe it is pretty hard to say with certainty how many people have strokes due to AF and also if they were taking a anticoagulants at the time.
