Joe: I also read that a high ejection fraction has problems also: "EF higher than 75% may indicate a heart condition like hypertrophic cardiomyopathy." Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
I wasn't going to respond, however it appears that I am being singled out so I must: "This was said by a poster about me" I don't dispute any of that and I have an isolated LAA myself so it's not like I'm unaware. What I object to are blanket negative statements with no context that give the impression that everyone needs multiple ablations, everyone ends up onby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Carey "All I ask is that you give people an accurate, realistic view of what they're facing. Your age and medical history aren't relevant to them". Most people that come to this board give their medical history and age, you yourself did as well, Shannon, Hans Larsen George N. just to name a few. Carey: Two people come instantly to mind, Jackie and Shannon, Jackie is around my age and has had 3 ablations with Dr. Natalie and has to take an anticoagulant for life. Shannon had to take a anticoagulant after a problem with the LAA, he has had a watchman device and is now free of anticoagulants. My point is at my age all of those operations that might have to be endured is a little much.by Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Kong: No, I never got an ablation, for a number of years I didn't get too many episodes and I was always able to terminate them, I still have been able to terminate them. I do take 150 mg. tab. of Propafenone every night and taking magnesium has helped me a lot. If I was younger, I would consider an ablation, but now, I read so many people have to have more than one ablation, maybe 3 anby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Quote Carey: Yes, but the majority of people with hyperthyroidism don't have afib. Why not? Let me enlighten you: I had Graves disease for a few years, (hyperthyroidism) and never got AF so you are essentially correct, then I had my thyroid nuked and went on Synthroid for about 5 years without any problems. Feeling rather tried I increased my meds which led to my AF so higherby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Travis: Well I have to chime in here "you say that no external factor causes AF". An increase in my thyroid meds caused me to become hyper, too much thyroid hormone can cause heart problems like AF, which it did for me. When people have any heart operations, many get AF afterwards, it happened to my husband, he never had any AF before that episode. I am not sure about EMFs, I aby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
That was a long time ago, like about 18 years. Probably about 3 or 4 than gradually increased. Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Kong: Nope, I got a few episodes a year for a number of years then AF came more often, lately I get it twice or once a month. I am vagal, it lasts anywhere from 5 to 12 hours. I usually do get a few more episodes in the winter months, I get a lot more fruits and veggies in the summer so maybe that has something to do with it. I have heard that the heart never forgets, there have been a feby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Kong2018 My first AF episode occurred because I was over medicated on my thyroid meds., in other words I became hyper thyroid. Hyper thyroid or Hypo can cause AF, I am living testimony to that fact. Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM

Lisa Solotol is a beta blocker which will slow your heart rate--which as I understand should not be used without a pacemaker if one has bradycardia or a heart block. Do you take anything for your mild hypertension or is your Doc. prescribing Solotol for it? Anyway, with your low heartrate I don't understand why he is wanting you to take a beta blocker. Try to find a doctor that dealsby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Nick says: That is currently the plan but need to clear a hospital aquired infection first. My concern is that there may be other options to investigate before fitting a pacemaker. Once a pacemaker is fitted that person is consigned to taking Warfarin (or some other anti-coag) for the rest of their life. Some people just don't get on well with any anti-coagulation medication" Iby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
If AF is terminating with severe bradycardia then the person would need a pacemaker so that the heartrate wouldn't drop too low. Lby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Throughout the history of this site there are stories of ablations which have gone wrong due to inexperienced doctors doing them, Shannon himself has a story about his sister which is tragic. No one has said that they shouldn't be told. We would be remiss if all the facts are not given, in the end the final outcome is find the best doctor who has done many, many ablations, Dr. Natalie is heby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Bill: Your device doesn't help your AF? I have a pacemaker I wonder if a tens unit would cause any harm to it, I am not depended on it. Lizby Elizabeth - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Carey: Carey said "Name a medical procedure and people have died from them. Tonsils, root canals, you name it" Now that Is scary, I may never go for a root canal again. Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jackie: Yes, it was a long time ago, in fact, someone had posted it on this site and I asked my EP about it, he asked me how I knew. I also recall about Pam W. I agree things are much better today and there are doctors that are doing great, Dr. Natalie especially. Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
I posted nothing that is heresay---I live in Michigan and my EP is a member of U of M. I spoke with him about the tragedy, he said it was a Tamponade, also what happened in my family was very real and factual. Lby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Carey: If I was to undergo a medical procedure I would want to know everything, who is doing it and what is the success rates, what is wrong with that. A long time ago my stepson had a very bad headache, went to the hospital, they sent him to U. of M, he was given an antibody and was a little better the doctor said he had a tumor and operated. The "tumor" turned out to be a cyst, iby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Oh, I am so sorry, I know of many that have undergone ablations and are fine. The person that was at U of M happened a number of years ago. There are many famous people that have undergone ablations and are good, Tony Blair when he was prime minister of England. I was responding to that article about not providing ablations to some because they didn't feel they would be successful. So, Iby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Even dr. Natalie has to do more than one ablation on his patients, perhaps they are the more difficult ones. We always read about the ablations that have been successful, we don't hear about any ablations that have ended badly, either in death or the person is worse off. I do recall a man that was a doctor and had an ablation at the University of. Michigan, Ann Arbor that died after hisby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hope it works, there are so many people that have AF, there should be more work in finding help for all of us. Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM

Smackman:: That sure was a very bad experience, that seems to be the compliant about Pradaxa that it causes an acid stomach. All blood thinners have some sort of problem, some worst than others. LIzby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jackie: Thanks, when my doctor was talking to me about taking a blood thinner he mentioned I couldn't take it if I had low platelets, I said I do, he asked how low. I told him it was at the low end of the lab scale as I didn't have the number before me, so nothing more was said. Lizby Elizabeth - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Thank you all for your replies I thought because Pradaxa has an anti-dote that it would be safer to take. Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jackie: I know from reading that you have low platelets, how low is low? I have low platelets also, my platelet count is 128, Lab values--140-400. This was taken in Aug. of last year. My reason for asking is if ones platelet count is too low than a blood thinner would be not tolerated. Lizby Elizabeth - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
