Jackie: without getting too technical, lectins help cells stick together. Research shows that lectins may have some benefits — they are antimicrobial, help the immune system and have anti-cancer potential. But the same stickiness also makes them act as “anti-nutrients,” which hinder the body’s absorption of certain vitamins. High intake of lectins may damage the lining of the intestine, whichby Elizabeth - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Oh Jackie, you can always find these "experts" that say Lectins, grains, beans are bad for you, I can find other "experts" that say those foods are very good for you. I have become a doubter of these "experts", I believe beans are very good for you and some grains are as well. As for Lectins I have eaten tomatoes all my life, I raise a lot of tomatoes I make sauceby Elizabeth - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Wolf: "In a nutshell, the vast majority of the anti-arrhythmic drugs either work to sequester potassium in the cells or otherwise prevent the influx of sodium. Given that the sum of sodium and potassium ions in intracellular fliud is supposed to remain constant, this seems like a basic problem to solve. Eat less sodium and its helper ion calcium and eat more potassium and its helper ion mby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
I do recall that you said you consume salt---I guess I don't eat a lot of carbs, I eat a lot of fruits/veggies and meat. I do eat some bread, probably my insulin is low. I cook my own food, so I don't consume a lot of salt. There was an article on Drudge a few days ago from a doctor in England who said we need salt and what is being said about salt being so bad for us is wrong. Iby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
"At the top of the list is often an over-consumption of calcium (food and supplements) which blocks magnesium function and a high-sodium intake which blocks potassium function—both essential for Normal Sinus Rhythm." Strange, Dr. Brownstein, my Holistic doctor, has said to me after every one of my blood workups that I need to get more salt in my diet. How do you interpret that? Lby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Well, you can drink too much water also, washing out your electrolytes. Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
It isn't that I think Fluoride is Ok, I don't, but I don't believe some of the things that were in the report you posted in which I responded to. As I said I have been on Well water all my life, many people have, they are forgotten in this report That fact certainly doesn't give us immunity from a lot of the diseases that the article says comes from fluoride. Thanks, that was a very good site--I did try vinegar. I have had this poison ivy for over a week and it is spreading on my legs and on my arms (arms aren't as bad as my legs}, I understand that one can spread it to other parts of the body. I know what poison ivy looks like and I didn't touch it but I must have brushed against it. My neighbor has a rickey fence with all kinds of vinesby Elizabeth - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Well I don't believe that 70% of the U.S. is being forced to receive fluoride in their H20. I for one has had well water all my life, there are many people that have wells, all of my neighbors do, my brothers do I had thyroid problems and also have AF in spite of having a well and no fluoride. Lizby Elizabeth - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Hi: Has anyone here had a case of Posion Ivy and what did you do to get rid of it. I have a case of Posion Ivy or Poison Oak or maybe Posion Sumac. I have had it for about a week and it won't go away and in fact it is increasing, I went to the doctor today and he said to take Predisone, I filled the script but I really don't like to take it. Lizby Elizabeth - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Look, I had Graves disease, I know what too much thyroid hormone can do, that is different than what you said. You indicated that if one took a T4 med and it didn't convert into T3 it would accumulate in the body which could affect the heart. I don't believe that is the case. Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
George: I know that there are people that cannot convert T4 into T3, that wasn't what I responded to: You said that if all the T4 wasn't converted to usable T3 that can affect the heart rhythm. Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Very interesting, a few years ago my Parathyroid was a little high, just a few points over the lab scale. In my blood work the parathyroid is always checked, it is around the high end. My calcium level stays the same year after year, it is around 9.5 never goes over 10.2 mg/dl so I guess I am ok. Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
George: You said: "experience with T4 was very bad one...I read somewhere that if all the T4 that is being taken, isn't converted to "usable T3" the excess unused T4 can affect the heart rhythm." I have never heard of this, I know that when you take a thyroid pill it takes a few days to work, it doesn't work right away, that is why one has to take it daily. Theby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Seventeen young men aren't proof, how about Seventeen old men? Funny, that Dr. Brownsten didn't recommend Nitric Acid, my BP is always a little high when I am in the Doctors office. It is my Diastolic only. Lizby Elizabeth - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Hi greyhound gal. My doc told me to take a baby aspirin, I sometimes take 325 mg. when I work in my yard and garden and have a few aches. I am on Synthroid, 125 mcg. I had Graves disease a long time ago and got my thyroid nuked. My Holistic doctor thought I was getting Aura Migraines because my thyroid was just a tad low so he increased it to 137 mcgs., after a week or so I started getting mby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
WolfPack: You know Aspirin has been recommended for years and years, now all of a sudden it isn't good but these new blood thinners are. Makes me wonder, aspirin is very cheap but these new blood thinners are expensive, how are the makers of these new blood thinners going to make a profit if people can just use aspirin. Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Grayhound Gal I can't advise but I can relate my experience. I get AF sometimes once every 2 months or maybe a couple of times a month, just depends. I have a doc. that deals in the electrical problems of the heart. A number of years ago he put me on Coumadin, I took it for a few weeks and started having very bloodshot eyes, when I opened the door I got like a sack of blood in my thumb,by Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
I don't think babies or small children have stress yet they have health problems. Stress has some to do with sickness but there are many other reasons, can't just blame stress. Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Ken: Me as well, my AF always comes in the evening after I am sitting watching T.V. and RELAXING. Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jackie: Dr. Brownstein always takes all of those minerals--I believe that my aura migraines have been caused by my taking bio-identical hormones, hormones cause migraines also. I have quit taking them months ago and my aura migraines have almost completely stopped, one or two once in a great while isn't bad. I did get aura migraines throughout my life but only a few a year, but then I sby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Most people have stress at one time or another, yet they all don't get AF. I would say those that get AF have an affinity for AF, their DNA, in their family etc. Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Shannon: You said "Low dose aspirin is no longer prescribed for prevention of AFIB related stroke or TIA ... in other words it is no longer used for LAA-based clot elimination ... primarily because the overwhelming weight of the evidence over the last 10 to 15 years shows the very meager impact it has on addressing AFIB embolism, is countered far more by the significantly larger risk of sby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
When a LAA is performed and Dr. Natale appears to perform quite a few of them, a person then has to remain on blood thinners the rest of their lives, is that correct? What happens if a person cannot take blood thinners, what happens then? Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Years ago doctors believed that it was normal for older people to have higher blood pressure, after all our blood vessels are more stiff. Taking BP meds according to some stats don't increase your life that much, one drug leads to another. Lizby Elizabeth - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
George says: I'm convinced that metabolic issues are the root of much of the chronic illness of aging. I have been going to my Holistic doctor for about 16 years, he takes blood work twice a year, he has told me that my blood work is like a 60 year old, I am certainly a lot older than that. I have had Aura Migraines off and on for most of my life, I got graves disease in my late 50s'by Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jackie: That is right, I have always noticed what people are buying, usually a lot of junk, but we are talking about most that visit this site. They try to eat the right foods and yet get episodes of AF. Yes, I do recall Peggys "the list" didn't she put a lot of recipes on the list as well? Jackie: You said :," in addition to adding magnesium, what other changes have you done so far? I'd love to see you have the success that GeorgeN and others have enjoyed and avoid ablation if possible. Let's keep the discussion going" The only person I know right now that is successful in avoiding an ablation is George N., I have not had an ablation but I do get episodesby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Anneh: Your T3 probably caused your episodes of AF, I had an increase in my thyroid meds last March, I get AF about every two months. Well, with the increase in my thyroid meds I started getting AF twice a week, I went back to my regular dosage of thyroid meds. It took a few weeks to get back to my normal routine of once every two months. I also increased my potassium from food (I don'by Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jackie: Thank you for your reply----she has been going to this dentist for a few years, she doesn't have decay but a little problem with her gums. She goes more often to the dentist and cleans her teeth and gums throughly, she can't take too much of a vitamin C supplement because her iron level is a little over the range, so she has to watch that.
