I have been reading that collagen supplements are helpful for bones/arthritis, has anyone taking these supplements and or read about helping arthritis? Lizby Elizabeth - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Hi: For years I have had BP that was around 140 to 160 (systolic), in the doctors office I generally tested at anywhere from 150 to 170s. I eat well, get exercise and it just stays around the same. My doctor works with me and I never have taken BP meds. I never did say that I take a benadryl tab. every night for years, I have some allergys and it also helps me to sleep. I never thought mby Elizabeth - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Anti fib: My creatinine is 1.19, the reference range is 0.60 - 0.88 ng/dl so I am a little high there as well. The bun/creatinine ratio is 35, reference range is 6 - 22. I am drinking more water so hope that will help. Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
My BUN has always been a little over the lab range, but the last test was about 15 over the lab range. Dr. Brownstein said that I should drink more water (I don't drink a lot), I work outside a lot and I have sweated a lot, so that is possible that my body needed more fluids. I also do eat a lot of protein, i read that one should not eat too much protein for 24 hrs. before testing, I haveby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
I had a Nuclear stress test instead of walking the treadmill, they used adenosine, there were no adverse symptoms. Is it a matter of the amount that is used? Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
29 vincent: Propafenone has beta blocker properties in it, you are taking quite a lot, i don't think your doctor would prescribe a beta blocker, too much would make you feel very tried and if you are vagal, it would be unwise. Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
When did you start taking the potassium supplements? Just to let you know when I took potassium supplements I got AF, I quit taking the Pot. and the daily runs ceased. Have you had your potassium levels checked, my pot. was always near the top, so maybe for me I am a lot different than most on here, but I will never take potassium supplements. Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Mary ann You said you got episodes of AF after taking the V8 juice, it might be because of the potassium, a few years ago I started taking some Pot. and got runs of AF. I quit taking it and the runs of AF ceased. Just a thought. Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jackie: I have been using synthroid since 1993, no thyroid nodules. It is harder to regulate using T4 and T3 combinations, I have read where people have more palps using the combination. Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jackie: Which supplement do you take, does it have to be prescribed by a doctor? Lizby Elizabeth - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Oh, that is different, but you need to know so just think that it is a helpful test and it will soon be over, good luck to you and you will be alright. Lizby Elizabeth - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
You pay for your medical in some way, taxes etc. Do you know that England has Social Medicine for many years, the doctors are walking out for the first time in 40 years due to pay and their hours. Lby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
I have had a Nuclear Stress Test and an Electrocardiogram (echo) and no problems with the Nuclear test or the echo, so you should be OK. Lizby Elizabeth - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Jackie: I agree with all that you have said, I think we lived in a better time, life was easier/safer than today. I still have a large garden and a large area to mow and have been able to take care of all of it by myself, so I have been very fortunate. Take care. Lizby Elizabeth - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Jackie: I did research Grape seed, Celery seed and Olive leaf extracts and they are mostly all favorable. They sound great for many things and I was hoping they would be helpful to me. I do have problems with herbs and some supplements, I don't know why, some will give me Oral Migraines, so I have to be careful and let my food be "my medicine' as dr. Colbert says in his book.by Elizabeth - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
I started taking a supplement called "Blood pressure support" , the first dose was this past Thursday I was to take 2/day, I did feel a little funny Sat. night, but just thought i was tried, I did take the supplement Sun. Morning and I felt awful all day, my BP was very high (just the systolic), I felt like my blood sugar was very low. The only difference in my routine was taking thisby Elizabeth - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Colindo: I call it a modified Paleo diet as I believe that the Mediterranean and the Paleo diet are both good but each on its own is restrictive. I need to eat more meat than the Med. diet says to eat and I think eating legumes, beans are, which the Paleo diet, says not to eat is wrong. So, I believe in eating legumes and meat, so I call it my modified Paleo diet, could be a modified Med. diby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Marsh: Brassica plants, cabbage, Brussel sprouts, etc. will cause your TSH to rise (hypo), but you would have to eat them everyday. You can however eat them cooked without any problems, I raise cabbage and so eat cole slaw plus cooked cabbage, I seem to be OK with it, but don't overdo it. Also, I found I had a problem with my thyroid when I got a bread that was made with millet, it madeby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jackie: With all of the foods that are on your list of foods that are problematic, what do you eat? I have been reading Dr. Don Colbert's book "Let food be your medicine" which by the way is disappointing. Colbert talks about various ailments and gives names of foods which one should avoid or eat. Most often they are the same food, throughout the book he says to avoid wheatby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
There is a book "let food be your medicine" by Don Colbert M.D. of Orlando, Florida, he is a Holistic doctor. Dr. Colbert says that dementia is Type III diabetes, he says that the cells of the body become resistant to Insulin which causes diabetes. Dr. Colbert says that the cells of the brain don't open up to take in insulin, the cells will then start to die, just like in diabeteby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Well, good grief, having AF occasionally can give us a Stroke, Dementia, what else, not very encouraging for our future. Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
CC66: You appear to be taking a lot of Iodine supplements, i.e., 2 grains of iodine/day, Miso soup and seaweed, your TSH is too low at .041 what is your free t4 and free T3? I take thyroid supplements, I had Graves disease and my thyroid was nuked, if my tsh is as low as yours, I would get AF episodes. Sometimes you can go for a long time, it can catch up with you, our bodies change. Iby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
If their website is so lax what makes you think that their testing is any good? My doctor runs the Red Blood cell test for Magnesium, you should be able to know where your mag. level is from this test. Lizby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Oh, "Test don't guess", a lot of people are low in mag., I am on the lower end of the scale, as Will S. says perhaps that is normal for some of us, I am sure you recall this exchange: Wil Schuemann Re: The possibility of too much Magnesium. Afib: I agree about the intake of potassium and the low salt theory on this site--a few years ago I was in running posts saying I was wrong about the potassium/salt, I was told how bad salt was, well it is now being said that we do need salt, if you do all of your own cooking from scratch you won't get too much salt. I was looking for those posts but cannot find them. My potassium levby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
You brought Dr. Pearlmutter into your post, as an expert on brain health. Perhaps he shouldn't be the expert for us to look up to. Lizby Elizabeth - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Jackie: I asked Dr. Brownstein about that supplement that you are taking for bones and he knows about it but says he hasn't found it to be a good one. I am taking his supplement for bones (limbex) Limbex contains Chondrotin and Glucosamine, your supplement also contains these two in addition to Cyplexinol. Believe me, I do a lot of heavy exercise, I work hard in my garden and yard soby Elizabeth - AFIBBERS FORUM
Root tubers eaten by Paleo man similar to our potatoes isn't a complex starch. I have a problem with these Gurus, one says don't eat wheat products, another says eat wheat products, no fats or meat. I ignore them and eat food that I raise, good protein, wheat, rice and beans. Your wheat belly guy gives Glitathione for Parkinsons, it apparently doesn't work but he still isby Elizabeth - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
The following is about the Paleo diet, I know I feel better when I have some carbs: The low-carbohydrate Paleo diet has attracted star advocates, including professional golfer Phil Mickelson, actor Matthew McConaughey, and Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush. But experts are now debating whether or not people in the Paleolithic Era did actually eat carbs. A University of Chicagby Elizabeth - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Jackie: You know I never took Strontium because of what it reminded me of--atomic spill--but I did read that it was good for bone health. Well, after reading your post I guess I won't take the supplement. I did some reading about Ostinol, which contains Cyplexianol which is a stem cell activator, I read that there hasn't been any long term studies regarding growth factors.
