I think that overall Stroke Risk is decreased by eliminating AFIB. Maybe just not as much as we think. This reminds me of the Studies about a decade ago that showed that Rhythm Control had the same Stroke/Mortality rate of Rate Control. You have to factor in the acute risk of the treatment. When they added in the Complication risk for treatment like Pro-Arrythmic events from Anti-Arrythmics,by The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM
What is your AFIB HR? As Fibrillator eluded too, if your HR is high, it looks like you might be able to do more to bring your AFIB HR down, which should lessen the Symptoms. Leave the Flec alone, and add a Calcium Channel Blocker. If that doesn't work, maybe increase the Metropolol. Natale said he doesn't want you to raise your Medication. Was he talking about the Flec or the Metroby The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM
I have heard that about 1/3 of all food labeled as being "Organic" is not. Some where along the line from when the food is grown to when it is put up for Sale, it gets labeled "Organic" to make more money.by The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM
If it's completely regular, then it sounds like Flutter, or just simple Tachycardia. AFIB has Irregularity to it. That's the rate I get when I have Flutter, in the high 80's.by The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM
QuoteCarey Fibrillator is right that flecainide usually does lose effectiveness eventually. Some people get many years out of it and others just one or two. In addition to losing effectiveness, it can also become pro-arrhythmic. Both problems are common with several antiarrhythmic drugs. Anti-Fib's experience was extremely unusual for flecainide, and what I heard there was a whole lot ofby The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM
QuoteGeorgeN My Dr. had me start out at 100mg, then go to 150, 175, then 200. All of this was done at home. I did start feeling a little queezy and light-headed at 200mg. Since I was still have AFIB after numerous Episode, my Dr. sent me to the ER Room to be monitored at 300mg. He Faxed Instructions/Dr's Order to the ER, and also called the ER Dr, and the Head Charge Nurse to tell themby The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM
JohnBM: 50 is so low a dose, as not to worry. You could titrate up slowly. Maybe start out at 75mg on your second Episode, if 50 doesn't work the first time. Since your Converting on your own there is no rush to push the dosage up as to cause risk. Everyone Else: The problem with having a Pro-Arrythmic event from a Cardiac Drug, is that you might not get help in time. If you tby The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM
You should do research on the Flecainide. Yes, there are serious side effects possible. Starting out with a low trial dose would make sense in your case. Another option is to test out the Flecainide while you are in the Hospital, to see how you react to the Drug. Admission to a Hospital for monitoring when initially using Flecianide is the FDA protocol. What dosage did your Dr. prescribe?by The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM
That's the Dr's problem. Either you or your Insurance will be paying tens of thousands of Dollars for this Ablation.by The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM
This isn't Dr. Natale's specialty. Dr. Natale and the other Ablationists only treat the symptoms or end result of the condition. This is where we try to find the root causes and Triggers for our AFIB. Maybe I will research it later. I think you making to much out of an occasional skipped beat. Normal People get occasional skipped beats, that have never had AFIB. If they are regular and ongoing then you should address them. When my PAC's get bad enough, I walk and breath deeply to relax that usually helps. If they continue, or if I can't walk, I talk some Diltiazem a Calcium Channel Blocker, that diminishes thby The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM
Ghost: Your worrying too much about getting AFIB, or that are having AFIB. I suggest focusing more on what to do about it, if it comes. Iv'e had 45 or so Episodes, nothing real bad ever happened. You are right to look for "Triggers". Especially in your case, where they could not find anything else wrong. Keep a log or Diary. It won't hurt, and can only help. QuoteCarey Never let an EP do more than two ablations. If he can't get it right after a primary ablation and a "touch up" then you're beyond his capabilities. Seek someone of much higher skill level. As I read this post, and after PM'ing Zoey, his Las Vegas Dr. never performed a full Index or Primary Ablation. I mentioned the Bystolic, actually when I have an episode, I take the Bystolic in combination with a Calcium Channel Blocker called Diltiazem. I get almost no sedative effect from this combination, and I exercise 1.5 to 2 hours/day. I only take the Meds when I have an Episode, otherwise I just take Mg supplements. I never got an Ablation. The Coreg made me sluggish and a feeling sort of a malaise. Somewhat confused on how I felt about doing stuff, it changed my energy. I did better switching to a different type of Beta-Blocker called Bystolic. This is a Cardio-selective Beta-Blocker, that doesn't effect the rest of the Body as much. Also your dose may be too high. How many Episodes of AFIB have you had, and are you converting back on your own without getting Cardioverted? Your HR can be controlled with Drugs, either Beta-Blockers, or Calcium Channel Blockers. Sounds like there is no need to rush into this 2nd Ablation. Was the chest congestion caused by the Amiodarone? If so I would stop taking it.
