They did the right thing by at least trying to convert you at a low setting. Next time tell them to start at least 175J. It takes some experimentation to find the minimum power setting to convert your heart. Also sometimes they don't place the pads on just right. I found through trial and error, that I will convert at 125J every time, so why should I be subjected to a higher Shocking powby The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks Jackie. I started eating a little bit of Organic saurkraut and natural yogurt for the Probiotics. How long should it take to get see any benefit from this?by The Anti-Fib - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
It depends on how well you are tolerating your AFIB. The more uncomfortable, the more getting an ECV makes sense. I agree with George, Natale might have an angle on this. As for feeling of an Elephant stepping on you, it sounds like you were Cardioverted at a high Voltage. CV's range from 100 to 400 Joules. If you get Cardioverted, you might look at your old records, and see what Jouby The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hello, I got a series of 3 Visco-supplementation Injections last December. Ever since then I have had an upset GI tract. I suspect an Auto-Immune reaction, since I have an over-reactive Immune system. I have tried selectively eliminating foods, in case something I was eating was causing the issues by coincidence, but that hasn't helped. This side-effect is listed for these Injections, buby The Anti-Fib - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Sounds like the Swallow activates a Nerve and that triggers the AF. Is your "aura" worse in the Summer?by The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM
I dont think Flutter is all that noticeable, unless the rate is high. In Flutter the Heart still beats rythmically, I don't think it produces the Palpitations like AF.by The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM
Yes BB and CCB both lower HR, but by different mechanisms. CCB's don't cause the side effects like sedation that BB's do.by The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM
Sounds like your sister could be taking a CCB. That wold help lower her rate, so she would'nt need as much Metropolol. CCB's are not Anti-Arrythmics. Also the way I read Shannon's reply is that he's saying your sister would have been on AC medication for 7-10 days, if she tries to get the Dr. to order an TEE as soon as she can. He is not saying you need to wait 7-10 dby The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM
I never heard of trying to stay in AFIB, fearing a clot, unless a known clot was present that would change things. Also, It's less risky to spontaneously convert than by ECV. Waiting around in AFIB for 30 days while AC medication takes effect, is old-school here in the US. Even there is still a chance that a clot is present, as AC medication only reduces the risk of Clot formation.by The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM
Does Flecainide alleviate PAC's?, I have doubts, and Flec has side effects. It makes more sense if your going to re-medicate to just re-institute the Toprol, and see how this does for you. Beta-Blockers have certainly helped some with PAC issues.by The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM
Yes that is a good summation by JayBros. Success is individual. Did the Ablation(s) significantly help the patient enough to warrant getting the Ablation done?by The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM
Sounds kind of like the EXATest discussed on the LAF Forum, although they use X-Ray Analysis for that test. Some of those like the Mg are well known to test lower when testing Intracellularly than by Serum. The Kidneys try to maintain proper levels in the Blood, but these values in the Cardiac Muscle Cells are often different, it has to do with transporting electrolytes through cell membranes.by The Anti-Fib - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
My PAC"s have really subsided since I started eating more salt, and even adding it to my Water. My Bloodwork was normal, but I suspect I was still Sodium deficient inside my Cardiac Muscle Tissue. In my case I have a problem with excessive thirst, so I unintentionally overhydrate. Mg also greatly helped me. I was also flushing out Cortisol out through my urine, creating a scenario, likeby The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM
As far as supplements, in general, Magnesium has helped the most Afibbers. Although for a few it made things worse. Taurine at 1-2 grams has also helped many. If you were Cardioverted to NSR after 2 days, then why the 3 more days in the Hospital? Did they say why they did not want to Electrically CV you? Not that they did it wrong, they tried the Mg Cocktail first along and then proceededby The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM
How and when did you convert to NSR on that 5-day Hospital stay?by The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM
I also was awhile AFIB, and then in and out of it. NSR now, but I was definately more irritable and just not as calm when I was in AFIB vs NSR. What is your Average HR? I found that getting my Fibbing HR down in the 70's close to where my normal NSR rate was helped with the symptoms greatly.by The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM
Sounds like the AFIB with all of the Palpitations with your HR at 200 kind of caused an anxiety attack of sorts with a panicked reaction. Just relax and spend your time and energy going through the motions of treating your AFIB. Take control of the situation by educating yourself from here, and following up with your Dr's. Normally Lone-AFIB is not acutely life-threatening. I don't kby The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM
BStevens: I'm reading your post differently than Shannon. Sounds like your exercise capacity was reduced right after getting an Ablation. Is that so? or are you referring to your exercise capacity even before you had AFIB? Who did the first Ablation? Sounds like the question of Ablation-induced Cardiomyopathy would be a good one to pose to Dr. Natale. Cardiomyopathy can be causedby The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM

It depends on how many you are having, but in general the more you have, the more likely you are to progress into AFIB. They are benign, unless they are constant. I have had weeks long episodes of massive PAC's (like every other beat is a PAC, or every 2 beats is a PAC), although I didn't usually go into AFIB. PAC's are not that big of a deal, but if you have enough of them theyby The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM
Smackman wrote: "you did but Multaq does not have a beta blocker in it but when combined with Metoprolol, It can cause a low heart rate." Multaq does have a Beta-blocker in it. It is not a strong one though. Multaq can be taken without a separate Beta-Blocker. The only AAM that does not have a Beta-Blocker in it is Flecanide. Sounds like you might need to reduce your Metropolol dosage. I would discuss the rate issue as a priority with the Cardiologist. Make sure he knows what you were at prior to having AFIB. At this point its not worth your time/energy to worry much about this, if all that is going on is AFIB. Just get into to see the Cardiologist as soon as you can, to verify this.by The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM
I would focus 1st on controlling your your Heart rate. That is what the Metropolol is for. What was your Heart rate when it beat normally before you got the AFIB? And what is your Heart Rate now in AFIB? You'll feel better if you can get your HR down close to what your NSR HR was. Your risk of Stroke is probably very low, that is what the Warfarin is for, to prevent Stroke. Have you hadby The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM
Ginny your normal NSR rate would have been in your past medical records prior to your AFIB. The throbbing of your Heart (palpitations), and breathlessness, are symptoms of your Heart beating too fast in AFIB. Since the Atria are in Fibrillation, they don't push Blood down into the Ventricles like on a normally beating Heart. Sounds like your Ventricles are not filling up with enough Blby The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM
The best way to measure HR in AFIB is by ECG. The rate given is an average, but that is an average only for several seconds while they did the ECG. On your own your idea is good. I agree with what George said, but you are using a Pulse Oxymeter, not a BP machine. BP machines also give HR readings, but are not accurate, as George indicated. I agree Wolfpack, very well put. The same thing applies even more to your Pets when dealing Vets. I just lost a Cat because of trusting what a Vet and his assistants repeatedly assured me of. I did not aggressively enough not take charge of a situation, where my Cat was harmed by improper treatment. You have to be in control, unless its an acute scenario. It's really the worst thing knby The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM
I wouldn't drive with a large dose of Metropolol and Zanax or Valium added. It may impair you, or at least cause you to appear impaired if you were pulled over. The closer you can get your AFIB rate to your Normal NSR rate the less the AFIB will affect you. The Diltiazem I suggested won't cause sedation.by The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM
