Okay Eric... then you'll probably be safe with a BB....but keep in mind that both sugar in chocolate and stress deplete magnesium, big time. So... you need to be very mindful of your magnesium levels and make sure you are optimizing to tissue saturation. Otherwise, low magnesium sets the stage and the critical potassium can't work. All drugs of any type deplete magnesium as well soby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Lisa - taurine has many benefits. Calming to the heart because it facilitates the proper flow of electrolytes into the heart cells. You can read about it here Post-ablation and for many years continuing after that, I took about 3000 mg daily in divided doses. Now I take about 1500-2000 daily. I hope you find the balance you need. On the sodium, just be sure you analyze all the food youby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks Bryan. It's just good to remember that the body needs the appropriate fuel (nutrients and water) for proper function. Burning a few key points on the heart wall does nothing to put nutrients into cells. Depleters of critical nutrients still keep working regardless of ablation and eventually show up as other symptoms, if not afib, then something else. For this reason, we recognizeby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Barb - again, this depends on how readily you absorb the vitamin D. Some people need to take significant amounts... 5,000 daily or more and others manage to optimize with 2,000-4,000 daily. I had to go up to 10,000 IU daily to reach the 70 target that my FM MD preferred me to have. She tests the 25 OHD and serum calcium levels every 6 months. Ian - I've seen a Functional Medicine MD since 2000 and have routinely had the CBC and other evaluations. Other than my slightly low platelet count, my blood values were then and are now, normal. I don't see that it had any influence over my AF, although the optimizing the electrolytes definitely did....and especially keeping sodium at the bottom of the normal range and potassium atby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Nancy - the ubiquinol form is the converted form of ubiquinone. You can read more in the General Health Forum Coenzme Q10 - the Spark of Life <; After the age of 40, it may be difficult for some people to convert the ubiquinone form to ubiquinol. A combination of both is recommended since in the body it cycles back and forth from the "none" to the "nol" form. Since theby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Amiodarone contains 75 mg iodine in a 200 mg dose. It's easy to see how one might have an adverse reaction to too much iodine. A concern when treating with iodine is iodine storm which can be life threatening. There is no iodine in flecainide. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Eric - it's important to determine if you are vagal or adrenergic. If vagal, then beta blockers are not recommened as they keep you too low in parasympathic tone. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Lisa - sorry to read this post...you were doing so well. Keep in mind that using potassium when you get in trouble isn't like using an aspirin, typically. You need that correct ratio of intake...potassium to sodium (4:1) continually and for the rest of your life. It's not just for afibbers but is important for overall health. Bryan - good luck during your recovery process. Suggest you try adding magnesium glycinate... plenty of info here and in the special section above labeled Afib Resources. Magnesium relaxes muscles and blood vessels and is very effective with headaches. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks Tom - for emphasizing this crucial point. Unless afibbers totally understand this concept, they aren't going to make much progress in maintaining NSR. I'm glad you are doing so well and I do appreciate your hanging around to help steer others to a path of success. Best to you, Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Larry - what are you doing to ensure that you have proper electrolytes? You have to realize that ablation doesn't correct those deficiencies. After my ablation, I was totally fine until year 4. Then I began to have some breakthroughs.... once or twice a year. Based on my experience, I wrote an observational report, The Strategy - What Metabolic Cardiology Means to Afibbers. Great that they can detect and measure but what about addressing the core causes of these abberations in the first place. It would seem to me that based on these data that they then might focus on the biophysics of those heart cells as it relates to CR 72 and increasing proper cell voltage. As Erling notes, no iodine in Flecainide, but you may have had an undiagnosed hypothyroid problem that went on for years. Many physicians still aren't up to speed on the new TSH guidelines.
