Actually - the nutritionists are recommending more like 9 servings of veggies and fruit a day. A typical serving is 1/2 cup... in some cases where the caloric value is very low, it's 1 cup for a serving. Additionally, consuming this amount of veggies and fruit helps to meet the daily fiber requirement which is at least 25 grams a day - preferably higher. Amen! Let's keep that in the forefront.by Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Mark - clots are always a major concern. If they move out of the heart, one can die or become impaired. It's all about blood viscosity. That's the key issue and what makes blood thick. Inflammation being a major player. Clots form when the heart is churning in arrhythmia. Not all blood clears out with each pump and residual blood remains to 'stagnate' and keep churning.by Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Shannon - I'm so pleased that you are doing so well. I'd say you did give Dr. Natale a workout! He's the man! In your magnesium comment, did you really mean to type 5600 mg. magnesium glycinate? Good luck with your jet-setting. Please keep us posted on your progress. Best to you, Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM

Barb - it's my personal experience as well as that from working with other individuals that it's only the supplemental calcium that is troublesome. Even calcium-containing antacids are known to set off arrhythmia because of calcium overload. Food sources of calcium seem not to be an issue especially when the calcium is in leafy green vegetable form. With dairy sources, other problemby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM

Barry - regarding doctors using 'slightly' different techniques.... in some cases the difference is more than 'slightly.' As with all techniques, one has to be taught and then, many typically seem to pioneer what they think may be an improvement on the original they were taught. William - I have a dehydrator that can be used for home-made jerky and I have also made jerky in the oven at the lowest possible temp... just takes a lot of time but it's pure meat with nothing else added. Tasty and very easy to do. Far better as you say than that awful commercially prepred jerky. Making it from range fed beef or bison would be ideal. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Nick - it's my experience that limiting carbs help one lose weight and fairly fast. I know many have lost 20 or more pounds fairly quickly after starting Paleo eating. Remember the old Atkins diet? It was mostly protein and fat and people lost tons of weight in a hurry. It was later modified to be healthier in that they allowed more vegetables.... George - It would be great if there were an easy way to have a research index link by topic that would provide a hyperlink (one click) to the topic that goes back into all the archives. ie Taurine and then the pertinent informative links to that topic. or The List that would take you right to the CR. Barry - yes - you recall correctly... my ablation anniversary is coming up on 5 years in November. Everything is evolving in this field and certainly every person is different in response to a trauma such as ablation burns. I do not recall if we discussed time-frame, but I think not. As far as the notion that not all EPs adhere to one protocol for success... the answer is Yes. they do not....by Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Whoa! Jackie did not nearly die after ablation or any other time. My ablation went smoothly and I was up and about after six hours with no particular side effects other than thigh hematomas which were predictable as I have low platelets and don't get along well with coumadin. You may be thinking of my report that I had a Left Atrial Appendage clot form after cardioversion, post ablationby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Best wishes to yu Margaret - I'll be looking forward to your report once you are home. Enjoy Bordeaux. Regards, Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Bernie - Hydrate well and often. Don't consume coffee or alcohol as both are dehydrating. Dehydration makes for thick blood (even with coumadin) and you don't want to risk forming leg clots. Get up and move around as often as you are permitted to do... mostly these days, we are confined to our seats. While you are in the seat, you can do some pumping motions with your feet - pointby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM

Barry - just as a comment on symptom-free stenosis. When I was questioning Dr. Natale about stenosis, he commented that while it may seem strange, some people even with a 75% stenosis may not experience symptoms....and most commonly, they don't have symptoms with a 50% stenosis. He also said since the remedy for stenosis is complicated, they really don't do much unless the person isby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Peggy - You and I started about the same time as a result of George's findings. I took the magneisum taurate he recommended at the time but later switched to separate dosing. So my ablation was 5 years ago and I was taking the taurine before that. I think we can attest to the fact that taurine helps and there is no adverse side effect after about six years of dosing. William - most likely, you are not consuming other foods that cause significant potassium utilization or a deficit ...ie, starchy carbs, sugars, etc. and you probably maintain a good magnesium level as well. I think it's commendable that you have been able to work out a dietary solution to your heart problems. We should all be so dedicated and so fortunate. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
J - if you were to find a study - I haven't looked - it would be about aerobic exercise causing free radical damage - oxidative stress. You might find some if anyone cared to address the damage it does. Dr. Blaylock is well aware since he deals with degenerative conditions caused by free radical damage. Sue and all.... I don't think your viewpoint is considered a rant or objectionable. Initially, and back when I joined about 7 years ago, this forum was all about what we could do to manage afib with the tools available.
