I recently heard a comment in a nutritional product review which helps explain why we dont need to worry about taking taurine singly or worry about the risk of unbalancing our amino acids. There is no such thing as L-taurine taurine is not an exact amino acid there is no L structure, it is just taurine. Taurine functions as a regulator of electrolytes and is extremely important in sodiumby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Angela, you can type each ingredient into a google search with the words contraindication warfarin/coumadin and come up with your answer. As I recall, both Horse Chestnut and Butcher's Broom should not be taken with coumadin, but check... my memory fails every now and then. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Yes - of course, Steve, that's why I posted what I did in Melissa's thread. Anytime you have anesthesia and any invasive procedure...or sometimes not even invasive, you are at risk in an number of areas not to mention the risk of nosocomial infections that seem to be running rampant these days. It's the opinion of many physicians that avoiding going to a hospital for any reason iby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
First let me say, Im all for exercise that is appropriate to each individuals health and age. I consider it critically essential. Im also for being informed about smart about choices and recognizing our tendency toward being in denial about our need to ease up on a heart struggling with afib. Wil - not long ago, the CCF offered an online webinar with Dr. Natale's replacement, Dr. Bruce Lindsay presiding. I asked what distinctions they made in terms of AF and LAF... his response was that he does not make any distinction. When I asked the same at the Natale webinar, the response was: "LAF means that the pt does not have any other associated factor with AF, such as hyperteby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Tibbar - the urinary volume and frequency you describe during an afib event is common and typical. It comes from increased ANP levels released from heart cells during afib and it results in what we affectionately call "the big pee." I don't recall if we have discussed that this urinary volume also contributes to electrolyte depletion, but I would think the answer is yes. For tby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Nick - I should have said that if you have any hint of dysglycemia, the craving can be driven by that as well... insulin overproduction leads to carb cravings as a natural defense for brain safety. You have no control over the feelings.by Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM

No surprise here. Good reminder to avoid sitting in heavy traffic when at all possible.... not to mention the obvious about preventive measures to prevent or reduce pollution in the first place. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Great post and reminder, Kate. Thanks. Transdermal delivery is a definite source of adding toxins to the body which can certainly be triggers in some people. The other health concern is that the body has to then work overtime to detoxify the added chemical burden which adds additional physiological stress. For allergies, often people are reactive to SLS which is in many soaps, cosmetics, tooby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Well Steve - if you stop the aspirin and the stomach issue continues, then you'll know it is the coumadin. Some people also report irritation with coumadin. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Cherie and Barb H - since you are relatively new readers, you may not know that the safety and precautions of ablation issues has been an ongoing topic for many years and it remains an important point of consideration. Getting several opinions from the top EPs in the country remains a priority. Knowledge and experience. Please understand that I'm not posting the following comments to mby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Steve - here's a study published this August on 'leisurely' exercise helping to prevent afib... as a contrast to marathon and PC's contribution. Title: Light-to-moderate physical activity associated with lower risk of AF in older adults Boston, MA - Leisure activities, including walking, golfing, gardening, and outside chores, appear to reduce the risk of developing atrial fibrillation (AF), aby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Frank - not all of the potassium in foods is absorbable (bioavailable) so your calculations may be off some. Additionally, eating too much fruit to get potassium is counterproductive as it takes potassium (via insulin production and metabolism) to process the fruit sugar. A combination of both food sources and supplements is probably the best. Try the powdered form - gluconate. It's eaby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Nick - if you crave carbs, get tested for Candida albicans. Candida overgrowth is typically what drives the craving. That yeast needs to be fed. Also, if you eat enough protein and healthy fat and have no candida, satiety should be reached and you will not have cravings. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Sue and all - I agree... I've done considerable research on taurine as I brought it up over 5 years ago here on the BB and have been using it at that long as well. I found no comments in the literature that indicate one should take this amino acid for only X period of time. I recently had an amino acid profile test and I am fine in all of the other aminos as well. Unlike some of theby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Steve - I agree with Jane... Coumadin and aspirin can together can be too much for the stomach. See if taking the lower dose aspirin with food helps. If not, I'd ask if you could stop the aspirin altogether. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Melissa - I am very sorry to learn of your ablation complications and I certainly hope you have some remedial avenues open to you for correction. Your words of caution are extremely relevant for everyone considering an ablation. Thank you for that. I'll be thinking of you often. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
James - I agree with what you say. Wil has had two ablations; I've had one - nearly to five years ago. And, I've had some latent breakthrough arrhythmia that would indicate success may be not long-term or long-lasting. The question for my situation becomes, what causes latent 'failure'? I've entertained the possibility that some of the drivers have become active again or that new ones haby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
You can try using one of the nose sprays that contains GSE which is antimicrobial... like this one: To that you could consider adding a few drops of colloidal silver. Both are extremely effective antimicrobials and I've used them for years with absolutely no triggering effect on afib either before or after ablation. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
I agree with William - There is no requirement in the body for intake of carbs as the body makes fuel from protein and fat. Metabolism expert, Ron Rosedale, MD, covers this in his book, "The Rosedale Diet" which is about limiting carb intake and preventing insulin resistance aka metabolic syndrome and diabetes. Wil - While I've had some bouts of post-ablation breakthrough arrhythmia, I've not noticed that my typical routines cause any 'heart misbehavior' that you mention...if by that, you mean ectopy. But I should mention, I am not using a heart monitor. A fall or head injury could be particularly worrisome if not deadly.... but during the limited time I took coumadin, I was only cautious - I did not curtail any exercise or outdoor activities. Steve - ablation only stops the impulses or ectopy you are now feeling from materializing into full blown afib.... it does not stop the activity from occurring in the first place. While they are disconcerting when you feel them, take comfort in the fact they are not breaking through into afib. You should still consider using something like Hans' recommendations in the PAC Tamer recipeby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
