Laura, I'm definitely not an expert on this, but there is evidence of chemotherapy contributing to a clotting tendency. You might want to ask your oncologist to review your case since it involves atrial fibrillation. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
I believe Dr. Natale does ablations in Cleveland only for those who were left in the lurch when he was released abruptly from the CCF. I do not think he is taking on new patients but you could check.by Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
I believe that there was a study reporting that result. Less is more in this case because of the long-term risks of hemorrhagic strokes or bleeds from LT use of aspirin - especially in aging tissue that becomes fragile or friable.by Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Sharon - another reason not to overdo on the fresh cherries is unless they are organic, they are among those that are highly sprayed with pesticides and we need to avoid accumulation of those toxic residues.by Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Elaine - Of course, everyone is different in how they'll respond to thyroid hormone replacement. I was on Synthroid for 10 years for hypothyroid and goiteroid tissue... the result was I remained hypo and the goiter enlarged. After switching doctors and to Armour with the T3 , it helped eliminate many of the hypo symptoms so apparently I was unable to convert the Synthroid (all T4) to T3by Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks Doug - that was very nice of you to take the time to do this post. I looked at all those drugs and had the same thought as you did but didn't have the time to put together a post. This is an important example of why we all should be diligent about the drugs we take and do a google search to learn the side effects of each. One thing missing that you probably won't find is the cby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
I agree William.... I don't eat much red meat. Never beef, but a couple times a month, I do eat lamb (lots of Omega 3s) and bison.... both cooked rare. Rare seems to be easier to digest and certainly is tender. All food should flow through the system quickly... meat, such as beef or even chicken metablize to an acid ash with little or no fiber so not much residue is left to flow through tby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jan - thanks for your input about U of Pa.... one of our past posters who had a botched ablation (elsewhere) eventually ended up at U of Pa with Dr. Callans. He raves about him and his care there. During Pete's first ablation, he had tamponade and he reports he died on the table and had an out of body experience. They did makeshift emergency surgery to open his chest and drain the blood.by Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
You know, Peggy - your mint discussions brings to mind that have always grown a catnip patch and the cats have always loved to eat it and roll in it. They never get fleas. The vets I've had over the years are always surprised when I tell them it's the catnip. Since the catnip is in the mint family...and it grows and spreads similarly... there obviously is some natural essential oil thby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Bobbie Jo - the experts say there is much less risk in porcelain fillings; but the composites have their own problems... still, they think overall these other two options are better than the mercury/amalgam fillings. You have to understand that there is this fear of class action lawsuits if a formal statement were to issued indicating the fillings in your mouth are harmful... instead, the ideby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Isabelle - what is the form of the natto...are you talking about the food? or the enzyme, nattokinase, suppplement? If it's the supplement, what does the label say about fibrinolytic units? FU's. How many FUs /milligram and is there a comment about the purity of the product? Does the label identify it as the NSK-SD patented isolated enzyme? Thanks Joan - and good luck. I think you have much to gain in the way of benefits from the therapy and hopefully, that will include the afib as well. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Dick - I've had past occasions to have 2 cardioversions - both at the Cleveland Clinic with their protocols - which may differ somewhat from other facilities. You can have a TEE prior to CV and that would be advisable but in facility the size of the Clinic, that just doesn't happen because a patient shows up and requests it. This is true, William....and you can be sure that research $$ won't be spent on finding a cause when the revenues for the procedures - whatever they may be - continue to money makers. Unless, of course, it would be a Rx drug that would correct the source of the problem. That brings up an interesting thought because it would put alot of heart rhythm specialists out of business if it was asby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Phil - there is evidence right now that mercury amalgam fillings off-gas vapors every time one chews so it's really much more exposure than the dentist just managing the amalgam restoration. Removing it is another issue entirely, however. Visit here if you're curious. There is a good deal of information about dental personnel and the consequences of mercury absorption from working with it and breathing the vapors. I know of three young male dentists who developed prostate cancer in their 50's... another developed MS in his 40's as did a dental technician. Whether that had anything to do with Hg is speculative. The largest concern is that Hg is stored in faby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
The caveat directions in the post I did on taurine says to take taurine with meals if a person experiences gastric upset. I'd think the same would apply with aspirin to help prevent irritation. The other thing I'd do is take aspirin at a different time from the taurine dosing.by Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Kevin - I think maybe 3 - 4 years ago either this or something similar was posted. I recall it was herbal and the price was very high and again, no support that it worked other than the marketing hype. One thing about herbs - they act like drugs in the body so one has to be careful about how much and what form to take. I note that many of the herbs listed are herbs found in the kitchen.... cby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM

Suzi - I have experience with hypoglycemia triggering afib. If yours happens at night, then you need to eat a good protein-containing snack before bed and be sure you eliminate all sugar.... and maybe even fruit until you get the blood glucose handling under control. When I attended the AF Summit in Cleveland (10/05), several of the physicians presenting made the comment that an overall ablation goal would be to someday say to patients.... "you are cured." Even with the sugical procedures, there is no absolute that you will be "cured." I agree with Doug. "Cure" to me means no afib and no drugs. Time will tell whether theby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM

Just to be sure no one becomes alarmed over using taurine From Dr. Smyada's article: Taurine is a necessary and integral element for optimal health. Oral supplementation poses no major threat of toxicity, and its presence in foods makes it widely available to people seeking nutrition-oriented ways to improve their health. It's very important to consider the contents of this article, especially if you might need to be admitted to the hospital either planned or on an emergency basis as it has to do with spread of MRSA infections and the fact that hospital patients aren't routinely bathed by nurses. Linda - some years back, I recall that Lynn of San Diego consulted with Dr. Feld and several other EPs before choosing to go with Dr. Natale for her ablation at Marin General. Gay - if you can locate some esssential oils of plants to apply before going outdoors - that may be a helpful preventive measure. Almost all of them seem to repel bugs.
