Jeff - It's a mindset. Do not give in to foods that you know will flirt with disaster. That should be a no-brainer. If it were my choice, I'd stay away from any an all drugs until absolutely nothing else works. As for muscle tremors, I'd look to adding supplemental magnesium glycinate and then some potassium gluconate after you've used the magnesium for several weeks. Tby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Rick - the angels will be there with you in Bordeaux. You are in excellent hands there. Be sure to let us know how you are when you're home and settled in. Soon you will be living with passion in NSR. Best to you - Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
James - You now have the opportunity to take stock of your diet and trigger-associations and upgrade your habits to hopefully prevent recurrence. I'd also look to adding some of the essential electrolytes that help keep your heart rhythm normal (magnesium and potassium) - since sugar depletes both. While AF is a true inconvenience, you can look at it as a wakeup call to start modifying yoby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Heather - I have no way of evaluating your product but I can offer that some of the holistic treatments recognize using tumeric (curcumin) in cooking as helpful... so if you can cook with it and get benefit, then steaming wouldn't necessarily render it useless. You'll just have to try using it and take note of any changes - positive or negative. Since it is anti-inflammatory, you may first nby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM

Liz - I fully agree that getting nutrients from foods is the best option, however, given that some individuals do not absorb or assimilate nutrients well or only minimally, the nutritional experts recommend supplementation. Additionally, sometimes it is not possible to get therapeutic doses of nutrients from foods without exceeding recommended caloric intakes. In the case of taurine, I'm noby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM

Barry - a good workup here in the US with a cardiologist or EP will include a thalium stress test that will show any blockages. This involves the thalium dye injection at intervals before during and after exertion on a treadmill. I was told it's important to determine that before proceeding to prescribe some of the more complicated anti-arrhythmics. Not sure if it is routine, but that&by Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM

I take mine with meals just so I remember but at bedtime, on an empty stomach. Indications are to take it away from meals so it doesnt have to compete with other amino acids, but many of us have found it is effective either way. Sam - I remember your earlier posts and also remember your struggles so I wasn't misled at all. I still think you've done an admirable job with your efforts and it is, as we know, a highly individual thing. And often it's mind over matter; if you think it will, it does. If you go by the theory that acidic tendencies irritate the vagus nerve, then potentially, becoming alkaline should have benefit on arrhythmia. I didn't see any profound effect on the progression of my afib, but to be fair about that statement, I also wasn't doing the other heroics that I did as a collective preventive measure. The end result for me was ultimately that I had ablationby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
William - another reason for mineral deficiency - lack of stomach acid or being on drugs that block stomach acid production. Yet another would be the phospholipid layer of cells are stiff and distorted (damaged) from trans fats (and also free radical damage) which blocks the receptor sites so minerals can't get inside the cells. Mike - I use the metoprolol... and it's not time release. My instructions are to take 25 mg. and wait 30 minutes before taking the flecainide. (100 mg) If not converted within an hour, take another flecainide. I would think any beta blocker that slows down HR would work, but as Josiah mentions, you'll probably have to experiment a bit. Rob - I would do the same if I took any prescription drugs but I don't. When I did take the heart drugs, my functional medicine MD was on top of any potential interactions and my cardiologist was a DO who was more tuned in to nutrition than most, so I was fortunate in that regard.by Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Sharon - that goes to the old saying: "What you're not up on, you're down on." I learned a long time ago when dealing with most doctors who are out of the functional medicine realm, not to mention supplements but say I take a multi-vitamin. That's funny, George! Probably for some, the high altitude does make a difference but in the pressurized cabins, I've not found it to be a problem, in fact one of my events began as I boarded but resolved not long after we had reached cruising altitude. Barb - while I haven't experienced the undergarment Heather describes, it sounds as if a good deal of compression or consolidation is part of the function of the garment. That would (in my view) tend to scrunch up extra adipose tissue into the diaphragm area whereas my chiropractic treatment involved pulling down on the diaphragm muscle so that it was not pushing up on the stomach or heart.by Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM

There are probably considerable differences in reporting depending on which side of the fence youre on but getting mercury out is certainly a step in the right direction.
