Marian - what I've read says that tablets are definitely the best form as in order to compress the tablet, it kills many of the organisms and they also have to use some ingredients to hold the tablet together. I'd opt for something either from Hans website or the local vitamin store - see what brands in capsules are availble from the list recommended. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Martin - I can understand your dilemma and I'd go for Tikosyn before I'd consider amiodarone.... not only because of the side effects from the ami but because it might interfere with the timing of ablation should you choose to have that done. The ami takes a considerable amount of time to get out of the system. Consider this carefully and pay attention to the post jb just offered reby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Sah - thanks for posting your experiences. Sounds as if you've done an excellent job of listening to what your body has been telling you and taking corrective measures. If you can continue having the discipline and success you have enjoyed, it will be well worth your effort. Not everyone has the success you did and not every will have the discipline but your story just serves to show we aby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Yes - and to add to that in hindsight .. I think if I had just used it PIP, I might still have been able to coast and use it only on demand... possibly have avoided ablation. Who knows. It may be worth trying to see if you can tinker enough with dosing to use it only on demand and avoid building up the pro-arrhythmic tendency. For now, though, I would not rock the boat but consider reducingby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
This post is not intended to be a political statement. Im just reporting on a news clip 2/20/08 (WSJ) that indicated the head of the Oversight Committee of the US Food and Drug Administration says the FDA needs an overhauling and is proceeding to apply pressure by hearings on issues like imported food, medicines and devices. He says it is not just because of his son's death but because as a reby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Marian - tablets? not capsules? Were they refrigerated? I think most likely, the dose was too high...as in the testing your product section... you sort of overdose and if you get extreme gas (which could also produce pain) it confirms viability. As with anything, start low dose and ramp up. As mentioned, I've taken for about 20 years and a large range of products and species variatiby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Martin - I had a similar experience after 4 years on flecanide...no beta blockers... and was also worried about success because I was having daily and very long events that often gave me only 4 hours of calm before starting afib again. I posted about "Calming My Heart" while I was waiting for ablation and I did have great success in turning around those daily events to zero with someby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Chance - thanks for the input and glad you have done so well up to this point. It probably was flu-related, and you just jumped to the food association as we all probably would - but in light of your family getting it too, probably that bug. No matter. Cameron - Stress caused my breakthrough arrhythmias during 2007 - four separate events post-ablation 3+ years prior. In hindsight, I didn't really think I was overly stressed at the time, but apparently it set up something not yet defined as causal and I had to resort to using the PIP approach to convert to NSR - all in about an hour's time. One was closer to 2 hours. I didn'tby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
I agree with Hans about Dr. Wharton being a highly regarded, knowledgeable and skilled EP. He was my second choice had I not been able to get in soon enough with Dr. Natale. MUSC is a teaching hospital and there will be EP fellows that Dr/ Wharton will be teaching and supervising. You can ask for a 'guarantee' that his hands will do the ablation, but you may or may not get that satby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Chance, I'm sorry to see you've had another event. I'm a bit surprised at the age comment, though, as we are seeing it commonly reported here in a much younger population than has been noted in past years. It seems to be affecting a relatively large number of younger people as well...not that's that is any comfort to you. While AF isn't life-threatening, it certainlyby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Check out what Dr. Murray has to say here in one of his newsletters.... If there were any danger or downside to this herb, Dr. Murray would be warning of it as he is extremely conscientious about recommending any herbs or supplements that can have negative effects. The green tea connection may be the culprit. Do a google for 'green tea warfarin' Several indicate that it is contraindicated with warfarin use. It must be fairly concentrated. The best way to check this, Pam, is to contact New Chapter and inquire if they have data on any of the ingredients being contraindicated for use with warfarin especially the green tea component. Before I knew better, I agreed to go on a statin years ago - one of the earlier products when my cholesterol really wasn't elevated much at all but the new doc I was seeing was a zealot about numbers. Often, my motivation to write an awareness article comes from personal experience. This about probiotics is one such instance of how simplistic it can be to use natural, preventive measures and how troublesome GI conditions might be avoided. Good Luck Scott.... just curious - why did they wait so long to cardiovert you? Dennis did you happen to read the post I just offered about stress and the heart - especially the part about extreme exercise being a stressor? Perhaps you need to re-think your level of exertion - or just live with afib. I don't understand why you think your heart should perform as a normal heart would with no limitations; it is obviously no longer a pristine heart. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Two things - this is not LAF, apparently. And second, if I had a choice between afib and a statin, I'd take AF knowing all the downsides to long-term use of statin drugs. Probably, temporarily statins after heart surgery help to reduce inflammation and may prevent the occurrence of AF which seems to be fairly common. Sleep deprivation might cause hyperalgesia in patients with GERD via enhanced perception of intraesophageal acid. Gastroesophageal reflux disease can cause sleep deprivation because of nighttime heartburn or short amnestic arousals during sleep. Sleep deprivation, in turn, has been associated with increased GERD severity. One pathophysiologic explanation of this association might be that sleep dby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
