Benj - the biochemistry for building bone is the same whether male or female.... it takes more than calcium to assist with the bone remodeling process. Also would be true that if an individual, male or female, too too much unopposed calcium, it could certainly tend to dominate heart cells and cause arrhythmia but we also know that free calcium will deposit in soft tissue like blood vessels and aby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM

Jim - that's because it is an amino acid and they feel with meals, the protein intake would compete with the taurine. It does not matter allthat much and at least for me, it is easier to remember to take so I have included it with meals for years now. If you can manage the empty stomach - great. If there is any stomach discomfort though, it may be better to take with meals. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM

Keith Ive been thinking abut your question and my initial response to you-- that I have taken it for years and never had any stomach issues with it. Eric - I believe Hans had statistics in his survey on recurrence of afib after various types of ablations. From just reading what's posted here and remembering who has what, I'd say that for single ablations only, it's somewhat rare not to have a recurrence. Many of the afibbers who had the second ablation have enjoyed NSR for quite a few years; others have had many subsequent aby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Wil - thanks for an excellent experiment-based commentary. Your heart feeling like a popcorn popper in action and you are in NSR... wow - what a revelation! It's also very telling that your activity subsided significantly when you eliminated the supplements. Fran was another former afibber who couldn't tolerate the slightest hint of a supplement. Thanks Howie - this goes right to the same topic recently posted on the role of magnesium. With people taking just calcium and who are undoubtedly magnesium deficient since most of the population is, taking unopposed calcium just begs for stimulation of heart cells due to too much calcium. I haven't studied the complete publication, but I will. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Scott - Nice that you have access to a naturopath. Just be aware that while Hawthorne is often in the cardiac protocol, sometimes some of us afibbers do not get along with it. For me, it brought on afib...I think because it lowered my blood pressure too much. Others, though, have found it helpful. I don't see any potassium recommendations, though... are you getting at least 3 gramsby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM

Jean - A RBC magnesium level is a routine test. Why wouldn't your doctor agree to test that for you? It makes no sense to measure something that is not meaningful. Jean - that potassium is definitely too high. I'd stop for a while... How are your kidneys? Any labs done to check for that function? The magnesium is on the low side but I assume that is a serum level. Serum magnesium is not indicative of what is in the cell itself... so you really need the red blood cell magnesium analysis. The serum potassium is relatively close to IC levels so consiby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
