Barry - thanks for sharing your whole experience with us. I agree with Marian, that it's important to let the heart heal before deciding about a potential failure. I admire anyone who can tough out a painful procedure without benefit of anesthesia. For others in the US who are contemplating ablation procedures, understand that, typically, it is performed with either conscious sedatioby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Mellanie - Much has been written on insulin resistance and AGEs etc...but Dr. Rosedale is a major expert in this area. His book, The Rosedale Diet, is about insulin resistance through the management of leptin levels. It's more than a "diet" and in fact, I think many people may be missing an important read if they pass up this the book because of the title. You can get a previewby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Bill - We all contribute in different ways. You certainly have added a considerable amount of wisdom and support over the years so don't minimize your participation one iota! The thinking is that proteins and fats are the most difficult to break down and require the most effort with the enzymes. However, with just fruit and veggies - many of the experts say no - and other say yes.by Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
MQ - in addition to the fracture risk post, it is also felt that LT use of PPIs that inhibit stomach acid lead to other nutritional deficiencies that depend on stomach acid to break down in preparation for further metabolism. Also, some feel that because the stomach is one of the first-line defenses for keeping us healthy (stomach acid kills germs) (the skin is the other major defense) that peoby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM

Sharon - there are classic signs of insulin resistance and further, testing for fasting glucose and insulin levels are the only way you can know for sure. You fast for 12 hours, have a blood draw for both glucose and insulin; you eat a full meal that you bring with you including fruit and a dessert that contains some type of sugar; and then have blood draws at 30 min, 1, 2, 3, 4-hour intervalsby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Julia - the rare ventricular arrhythmia he mentions is called Torsades de pointe and can be fatal. That's why some EPs like to hospitalize patients who will be introduced to Flecainide - although I've noted over time that quite a few people here have just taken it without that precaution. I don't want to frighten you, but you should do a bit of research on this topic. It isby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM

Bill - as you know, the stomach is one phase of the digestive/metabolism process with the small intestine, the other phase. And actually, the first phase begins in the mouth where adequate and thorough chewing is essential. There are tests to determine if food is being adequately broken down by the required enzymatic action on foods into usable nutrient molecules. One is a comprehensiveby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM

Some days I only had a 4 hour break before another event started again. Hey Charlie thanks for posting. I was thinking about you and you got my ESP message! Glad it went well all things considered. Marian - you are absolutely correct.... in many drug plans, the insurer will pay for generic but tack on a premium fee for deviating from what the plan offers. For some individuals, it's impossible to use the brand drug because of the added expense. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks, George. That's amazingly detailed. Of course, it's reasonable to know some of the details about what one ingests, but the truth of the matter is that regardless of what the chart says... ultimately, what is unknown is what's actually in that product when you consume it. Therein lies the rub with many of these charts to calculate your nutritional intake. On paper, they lby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM

Dairy proteins including casein can be very allergenic for many individuals. Complicating this is any whey product which is a by-product of the cheese making process.... and most whey products are just that. There are some whey proteins that use a gently heated whey that is not a by-product and the proteins are not denatured by the heat. These are often acceptable in those who have no reactiby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM

Susan - that's really tragic. The INR is definitely something to monitor regularly, but I also think doctors are very remiss when they don't monitor patients for fibrinogen, homocysteine, LP(a) and inflammatory markers-- all contribute to the tendency for the blood to form clots. The INR only measures the efficacy of warfarin but nothing of the contributing factors that cause the blood to bby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
