Smackman…(David) ..is that correct? First, let me comment that I can’t begin to imagine the pain, suffering, stress and anguish you have endured and then to have Afib on top of all that is just unthinkable. My heart just breaks for your past journey of misery… and yet, here you are, posting and offering suggestions to help others. Thank you for your participation. Hi Larry - I fear that you are correct about the licensing and label monitoring. I intend to follow more about the Albion magnesium and the 'buffered' terminology... but have been side tracked all too frequently to give it my undivided attention.... but still intend to do so. Just learned of another avenue of approach. I hesitate to complain too loudly as the FDA is already overzeaby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Larry - This is just great. Thanks for all your hard work. Very useful. I do want to mention again that the serving size should be clarified to state that the serving should equal 1 teaspoon... labels usually indicate 'rounded' teaspoon equals 5 grams. I'm emphasizing this because at one time, I believe it was the NOW product, said a serving size was 2 teaspoons to equal 5by Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Smackman - Here's a “brief” summary of my daily nutritional support supplements…. As you requested. Sorry for the delay. These are determined by metabolic profile testing which shows how my body utilizes nutrients and what's needed for more support in various areas. I’m evaluated annually by my Functional Medicine Family Practice MD. First understand that I'm 78 and have a loby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Liz - You are correct about the other nutrients that need to be in place in order for calcium to be assimilated and utilized to make healthy bone cells as intended and Dr. Levy does address that as well... the Vitamin K in the proper form of Menaquinone 7 or MK7 in a high enough dose to be effective and also vitamin D3. It was much later that I learned I was deficient in vitamin D so that mby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks Larry - That's welcome information. I'd like to be able to provide readers with a good source of pure bulk product at the most reasonable cost. Some years ago, several of us helped send donations of nutrients (including d-ribose) to an afibber who was very impaired with cardiomyopathy. It would have been most welcome back then to have the most economical and reliable producby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Liz - On the topic of Omega 3 Essential Fatty Acids... following are clips from past posts gleaned from my notes when I attended a seminar segment presented by Barry Sears, PhD... who hardly can be classified as a "so-called nutrition doctor" ... see his Bio and CV at these weblinks Bio CV But first… read this recent response by Mark Hyman, MD to the report you are probaby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Liz - No, I'm not grasping at straws. I demonstrated that finding again and again. Stopped the calcium and the AF stopped... The problem was that I was low in intracellular magnesium and the extra calcium performed as advertised... excitatory to heart cells when magnesium is low. If there is enough magnesium, then that is less likely to happen but the ratio needs to be at a very minimuby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Larry - thanks for the details... Yes, it would be nice if labeling had all the info we need and were reliable. I haven't had a chance to do a cost comparison of the various bulk products, but if there isn't a huge difference, then I'd be tempted to opt for one labeled with the Corvalen trademark. I saw that Douglas Labs carries that but didn't have the time to compare costsby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Val - I take both forms of CoQ10... both the ubiquinone 100 mg and ubiquinol...200 mg.... with a meal that contains a healthy fat to help with absorption. Taurine - 1,000 mg a day. d-ribose - 2 teaspoons/day = 10 grams with meals Magnesium glycinate - 600 - 800 mg daily... sometimes more or less depending on foods and bowel signs Potassium...either gluconate, citrate or bicarbonate..by Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Liz - Can you cite a scientific reference saying Larry's dose is too high? Actually, Larry's dose of Omega 3 Essential Fatty Acids is on the low side. Omega 3's are essential to help prevent the silent inflammation that rages in bodies that are low in n3's and high in n6's... Many adverse health conditions are the result of inflammation that goes unchecked. Afby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Alex... Quite often more than supplements to be avoided are comments about avoiding certain foods that tend to have chemicals, preservatives, free glutamates or various elements that are more likely to cause systemic reactions that help trigger a neurological or chemical sensitivity response that triggers AFib. Smackman..... My opinion is this: It would be good for you to read the entire LEF report for understanding of why probiotics are important for maintaining gut health...which results in overall health when they are optimized. Hi Larry - I tried to find a reproduction of the label of the NutraBulk... What does the "serving size" amount to in actual measurement on your container? 1 teaspoon should equal 5 grams. The patent for Corvalen(r) D-ribose was granted to Bioenergy Life Science (Minneapolis, Minnesota) so you want to be sure you get the true formulation because it's a pricey productby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
This Life Extension report should be of interest to afibbers in that the probiotic in the spotlight (L. reuteri) not only reduces LDL cholesterol levels, lowers homocysteine and other risk markers…it also has a positive effect on the two Predictive Biomarkers we often discuss regarding thick, sticky blood… hs-C-reactive protein and fibrinogen. Smackman... I fully understand that you must use the drugs you do.. and I know you'd prefer not to use them. My emphasis was that I didn't think taking the magnesium that you do would affect your heart rate because it's likely that not much is actually hanging around long due to the drug depletion effects .. that was what I was attempting to say....sorry if my response was uncleaby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
After my August ablation, my heart rate then was 59. Dr. Natale told me he didn't want it to be that low and not to take any betablockers. Now, almost 4 months later, my "walking around" HR is typically in the mid-sixties which is where it was prior to the ablation. John - I neglected to include Solgar's Potassium Amino Acid Complex... which is another good option. This is in tablet form and by law, is limited to 99 mg/tablet or capsule. So again, to equal the 540 mg of powder/teaspoon, you'll go through a lot of tablets. Check out the comments at this iHerb link Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM

John - you could consider trying potassium citrate or potassium bicarbonate instead. Not sure if it is available in USP grade or at least food grade bulk powder, though, so you have to take multiple capsules. That's the convenience of the potassium gluconate powder. I have both citrate and bicarbonate in capsules and I use those for portability when I travel or dine out. If you tryby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Alex - if after calculating the CRP results as suggested by George, it is still elevated, then consider natural anti-inflammatories such as the strong curcumin standardized to contain 95% curcuminoids, Mervia is also popular, Omega 3's, Liposomal C, quercetin, ginger, N-acetyl- cysteine (NAC), vitamin D3... just a few of many. Ken - you were 2 years after my Natale ablation at the CCF in 2003. My experiences were that in the years 4, 5 and 6 post ablation, I had some breakthrough arrhythmias annually or 18 months. By optimizing my electrolytes, I was able to reverse that until 2012 when I began treating for an old Lyme exposure which caused a lot of irritation which stimulated my heart into both AFib and Aflutterby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Alex- George offers good advice. Consider also that your slightly elevated HS CRP may be contributory. Ideally this number is less than 1. Something systemic may be contributing to the inflammation and that may be irritating to your heart as well. Consider also what Shannon has written about the detrimental effects of heavy weight lifting and the damage it can do with heart valves. Aby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
