I saw a pulse oximeter application on the iPhone 4. Uses the camera and the videolight that are built in. Frankly, I wish I had my Contec CMS50EW with me so that I could check the accuracy. For anyone wanting a cheap pulse oximeter that uses Bluetooth to transfer data to your computer this is the best choice if economy is in mind. It is accurate when compared repeatedly to hospital pulse oximby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
I don't know but I would hesitate a guess that a rapid heartbeat like that is not a great sign and if it has not settled down you need to be in front of a cardiologist/EP nose-to-nose. Even when I was in aFib my heart rate never went that high. I am now on TIKOSYN for NSR and taking 10mg of Metoprolol b.i.d. My heart rate is 60 at rest, 70 when active, up to 115 when exercising. Debbie: I honestly do not know if any other issues will cause enlargement but I am imagine there are a host of them that will. I can attest that aFib will most definitely enlarge the left atrium. Normal is in the 40ish range (say 40 - 45mm) I was 50mm when diagnosed at my Family Doctor's office by his ECG and confirmed by a cardiologist. The cardiologist wanted to do an ECV but wanted meby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
I wish ablation was a viable option for me but I don't even have that decision option with a left atrium at 55mm dia. When it drops down under 50mm. I am a much better candidate for ablation. In the meantime, TIKOSYN 500ucg b.i.d. seems to be working for me. Monitoring INR and Potassium levels is a pain but if I allow my Potassium to drop below 4.5 I, too, have all sorts of palpatationsby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
Last ECV I had, I was in lala land for a few minutes, never felt a thing, and have been in NSR since (Dec 2011) with TIKOSYN. Good to see what is done, etc. Thanks for the post. PS: My first cardiologist, the quack, used paddles on me and then walked away when it was not successful. Never got to see nor speak to him again after that. Thanks fellows for the information. I will have a lookup as soon as my off and on "balloon head" from the Tikosyn wears off. Not sure why exactly this side-effect happens first thing in the morning but it feels like, I imagine, what one would feel like if addicted to Percocet and needing that first pill to get the day going. Or addicted to caffeine and 'needing my second cup of coby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
In this month's AFIB report there is a short article on using an iPhone 4s to determine if one is having an aFib episode or not. I am wondering if the same app might be available for the Android platform (Samsung Galaxy and Note II for instance). If so, where would one find out more information on the app? The Smartphone is definitely smart. In fact, it has more computing power and morby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
steve: Would love to get more Magnesium into me but at 1200 mg daily I would be needing a seat belt with shoulder harness on the toilet. Thinking of trying some of that magnesium gel/oil on my arms if it will not affect my bowel tolerance. Murray L P.S. Already have a crash helmet hanging in the washroom.by Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
Sorry to hear of your problems. FWIW, I find that even though I am on TIKOSYN and in NSR 100% of the time (presumably.... every time they put a monitor on me I am in NSR and the most they see are skipped beats; just finished a Friday AM to Monday noon stretch with a monitor on and will get results in a few weeks when I see Dr. Verma/Dr. Khaykin at Southlake in Newmarket ON.)... anyway, my pointby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM

I have been reading and watching documentaries on what we are doing to our bodies with modern North American style diet; in particularly fascinating are the heart studies done in Japan and the Philippines where up until recently the diet was essentially plant based with fish or meat thrown in as a taste enhancer in tiny quantities. Just tossed out the old bottle as it was empty and looking in reserves for the new bottle. It is, I believe, NOW brand of Potassium Gluconate(Gluconate?) and tsp is about 540mg. Potassium. I do not seem to have issues with either that nor the LS V8. I did want to try using the Potassium oil or lotion and wanted to know what brand and how to use it. Potassium Chloride oil is available locally Iby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
I keep hitting bowel tolerance at 400 mg of Magnesium. Can someone please educate me on the Magnesium creams and oils that folks are using? (And what kind/usage) I am good with Potassium, taking somewhere around 3 g. via Potassium Gluconate and LS V8 daily. May have to up that a bit as I hover around 4.0 and would like to be around 4.5 or 4.7. Asides from the Cardy Meter is there an easyby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
GOOD NEWS IN ONTARIO The TIKOSYN shortage appears to be over. Southlake managed to keep me supplied (albeit it was nail biting at times) and all was well. I am currently having a 6 month (annual?) recall examination by Dr. Verma/Khaykin at Southlake and am wired up like an F18 for a few days of ECG recording. These new 'holters' are amazing. Promise to share results. I have been wired up like an F18 since Friday noon and will end on Monday noon; the "holter" is really an event monitor and computer. It is amazing. The one I am wearing is programmable by the lab. It is set to autodetect anything unusual (it is a constant ECG) and I can push an "EVENT" button and record what sort of event it is, such a racing pulby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jim: Thank you for sharing your experience - I cannot begin to tell you how much I appreciate it. I have been on TIKOSYN since December 2011 and asides from skipped beats I seem to be in NSR 100% of the time. Is this arthroscopic? If not, realize that it means your chest is going to be cracked open and ribs cut and then wired closed. Recover time? I think I would rather have two or even three catheter ablations (almost day surgery these days) than get cracked open like that. I simply cannot get my K level up without supplementation. I use Potassium Gluconate in Polar Seltzer Water and Low Sodium V8 with fibre. Total daily supplement intake between the two? 1.5g in the AM and 1.5g at dinner (a beer cup of LS V8 = 1.5g). Is this sufficient? Still have trouble getting my K up to 4.5. During aFib, my heart rate never really skyrocketed. It remained generally in the 70 - 90 BPM range, yet my cardiograms showed obvious aFib 24/7. I am now on TIKOSYN since December 2011 and in NSR. I have an appointment to have a 3 day Holter Monitor starting today and through the weekend (yech) to see what's going on as the past week or so I have felt the old aFib symptoms of shortness oby Murray L - AFIBBERS FORUM
Nancy: Make certain that the doctor gives you a urine test for blood in your urine. Traces of blood are invisible to the naked eye and need to be dealt with. With the exception of terminal production of methane in my gut, I am indeed feeling pretty good and notice specifically that my heart seems to be somewhat "calmer". Nancy. In a nutshell. Get yourself to a urologist as soon as humanly possible, even if it means going through emerg. Smack on except the EP suspected that I was in PERMANENT aFib by the time he got to me. He suggested ablation, but not until I had tried dofetilide (TIKOSYN) and stayed with it as long as I could stand the side effects (not too bad) and remained in NSR (solidly since Dec 2011). I don't know if there are any stats on this, but one can assume that an overweight, couch potato, is probably not getting proper nutrition for starters. I have recently read and began Dr. J. I am starting to believe that nutrition is a large factor in aFib control, at least in the beginning. Have just read Dr. Fuhrman's book "EAT TO LIVE" and have taken up his eating regimen. My God!
