Very well said George, thank you! Shannonby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Great post Clay! A very good summary of your experience and so many others as the big picture continues to unfold over time. Our job here at this special forum and website is to help prevent folks from having to reinvent the wheel and continue making all the trial and mostly error early missteps so many of us made when we were determined to ignore continued triggering even after throwing the kby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
I think there is home testing of Warfarin in the UK, but a UK afibber will surely let us know for sure? I could be mistaken, but I think it is available and it is worth checking out if your friend feels certain his weight loss is from Eliquis. Shannonby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Steve, Yes, Flecanide can cause pro-arrhythmia in the form of a typically high speed flutter, including the dreaded one to one flutter that I had the dubious distinction of having to endure one day 4 months before my index AFIB ablation with Dr Natale a little over 9 years ago. The 1 to 1 flutter was no fun at all, I can assure you, passing out repeatedly and all the rest with a team of Dutchby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Outstanding report John! It reflects too the major advances we have seen over the last two years in both LAA occluding devices like the Watchman and Amplatzer Amulet as well as with the new version LARIAT and ATRICLIP LAA ligation systems as the two main forms of LAA closure. It is not only from improved design of these devices, but from significantly better understanding and implementationby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
You are welcomed Nick, And as noted, though the ida are low that Eliquis is the sole cause of sudden weight gain or loss, statistically speaking, it does not mean that it is not contributing to your issue. Since the direct trial and error method of sorting out the question by starting and stopping Eliquis and keeping a journal is not a good idea when you are in need of OAC, there is alwaysby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Nick, In doing a search for increased weight loss 'potentially associated' with starting, or long duration, taking Eliquis from the FDA Adverse events reports, there is not much evidence to support that association that I can find. So far, I saw a report of 280 people reporting inadvertent weight loss after starting Eliquis out of some 22,066 people or so. that is roughly a rate oby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Murray, Good to hear from you! I have not heard of the Ocean study in AFIB and OAC drugs but it sound like they are implanting a Reveal LINQ implantable loop recorder (ILM) by Medtronics to keep track of every heart beat during the study to monitor long term heart rhythm and impact of OAC on stroke/TIA and I presume bleeding risk over time. Here is some more info on the likely ILR in queby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Wolfpack, Avoidance is the best policy, obviously, and there is no rule of thumb on what might happen, or might not, relative to AFIB triggering with a Black Widow bite that I know of. A solid ablation might well prevent any cardiac impact, but this likely depends on your sensitivity to BW toxin, the dose you got and a myriad of other combinations of variabilities that can be involved in anby Shannon - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Jim, It is perfectly normal for you to have an elevated HR for some time after an proper and effective AFIB ablation. In fact some degree of elevation is a good sign that argues well for a better long term outcome than if you did not have any HR elevation. Its a sign that enough of those pacing cells making up the endothelial lining of the left and right atria were temporarily addressed byby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Steve, Send me your number and we can discuss more details and nuances of this change. It may well be a burst of sinus tachycardia from a myriad of possible proximal causes but not necessarily an actual arrhythmia that might otherwise inspire a call into your NP at Dr Natale's office in Austin. Let's try to sort out what exactly this elevated HR is and then go from there. Afterby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
No Liz, The reference for TSH being 'associated' with TSH as low as 2.1 and above are from the combined analysis of several large meta-analysis in the published medical literature. It has been presented at many BHRT conference with full references and when I have the actual time to go fishing through all of my records I will try to dig it up for you, but this reference is valid and vby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Liz, I am saying that an ideal TSH rangers from 0.4 to 1.0 statistically but that the beginning of detectable plaque/ arteriosclerosis begins from 'as low at 2.1 TSH. The range between 1 and 2 is the rough 'fudge factor' done where there is generally no need to add thyroid hormone replacement therapy and most people will still be within a broader sweet spot from 0.4 to 2.0by Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Yes I agree Larry, thanks to Travis and all who contributed to this very helpful thread! Shannonby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
As Jackie noted TSH is not at all a robust stand-alone thyroid marker and is actually more a pituitary gland hormone that impacts thyroid levels. Using Free T3 and Free T4 are much more valuable guides to thyroid function. That said, since TSH is so often overused as the sole marker used to treat thyroid function ... inappropriately in my view and that of many more enlightened endocrinologistby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi GaryS and welcome to Afibbers Forum! Ive sent you a 'PM' (private message) you will find the links to above in the upper right hand corner of this forum page. Perhaps we help can short cut your journey toward return of durable NSR. Look forward to discussing some options with you. Be well, Shannonby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM

Hi Alexe, Ive move your perfectly good thread about some proteolytic enzymes to the General Health Forum where a lot of past discussions on various enzymes have often taken place. This class of enzymes can help improve health in various ways, including assisting with some degree of anti-fibrinolytic action breaking down excess circulating fibrin. And they have noted significant anti-inflamby Shannon - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Hi Irma and welcome to the forum, I just saw your PM to me that was sent today 4/3 at 9:38am and wrote a reply PM back saying I will try to call you during daytime over the next two days. I'm replying here as well in case you check the forum first for answers to your request above. If you have sent a previous message to me, apologies as I have not seen a prior message. Hi Rhonda, Im glad you found out already it is NOT the monitor! That is just a coincidence of timing. The history you describe is typical of someone who had a very long history of Flecanide working well for a long time (or any AAR drug), but then eventually it stops working. In Richards case, he is an outlier in that it is very rare for folks to get 16-17 years of NSR out of FLEC or any otherby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
McHale and Clay are right and highlight an important point! Even for many who are still in garden variety Paroxysmal AFIB when they appear for their index ablation, it is not uncommon at all to find at least a few Non-PV triggers too ... at least assuming the EP even looks for them! The majority of the ablation reports I read from such patients done by advanced EPs who know how to detect anby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM

Hi JKAF, Welcome! I'm glad to see you have moved from 'lurker' to 'active poster' status ... you obviously have the investigative nature to fit right in here :-)! Have you been taking the high dose Iodine and/or Berberine during the blanking period or even in the month or two leading up to the ablation?? Sounds good wolfpack and speedy recovery! I moved the two flu/Tamiflu threads to the General Health forum where they are best to host them long term . And gave them several days on the Afibbers Forum first as there were a few AFIB and elated concerns expressed in both threads. Though overall these two threads that you and tsco posted regarding flu-related questions are very good topics to e aby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Wolfpack, You have to jump on the Tamiful quickly after you get first symptoms for it to have best odds of helping. It also can depend on the strain of flu this year whether of not you'll get a decent response. I took it about a decade ago when still living in Amsterdam over a four year period and a big flu wave rolled through and I was coming down clearly the first tale tell symptoms.by Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM

Hi John, I'm so glad everything went super, as I was sure it would, with the Watchman procedures for both John and Mike from our forum last Friday in Austin at St David's. In fact, on that same Friday what must be a record 15 total successful LAA closure procedures were performed at St David's 4 state of the art EP Labs plus a 5th hybrid surgical/EP Lab, including 12 Watchman anby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks Sam for question on hemp seed oil and the heart. There is a good deal of research being done on the promising anti-inflamatory benefits of cannibinols (CBDs) and with both systemic and organ specific inflammation recognized across all medical disciplines as a core contributor to most chronic diseases of aging there could well be benefits for the heart as well from well vetted use of CBDs (by Shannon - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Quotewolfpack As Shannon always reminds us, the statistics really argue for one to seek out the most highly-skilled practitioner at the most reputable facility one can find. The broad-based statistics will include the leading EPs with the more pedestrian ones who only do a dozen or so procedures a year. If you isolate your research to the top tier facilities and practitioners, you will find thatby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
