Hi Steve, Welcome too to the forum, I've been very busy since your first post an unable to reply before now. Congrats too on your very thorough and systematic approach to your experiment of one in so far helping to quell your AFIB episodes and I dearly hope the cranberry protocol added to calcium avoidance and Vitamin D sufficiency, both things we have preached here for many years witby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Welcome to the forum Les, The new AliveCor monitor is a smaller universal device that is not built into a specific case for a given model smartphone, it cost $75.00 U.S. and is a very handy little tool, the new detector algorithms are a big help for most folks as well, confirming whether each 30 second ECG strip recorded shows AFIB, is Normal, is 'Unreadable' due to too much noise inby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Que, Welcome to the forum, there is a tremendous wealth of information here to help you discover a real light of understanding that will help you through the forest of this daunting and lousy condition to greener pastures once more. Thanks too Barb, Just to let you all know the panel talk with me, Dr Robert Glatter a skilled Trauma MD at Lenox Hill Med Center Emergency Department in NYC and Dr Michael Smith Chief Medical Editor for WebMD went very well! We got a lot of very nice feedback for our over an hour discussion on the Promise and Pitfalls of the biometric device data revolution in which I discussed the many pros oby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
PS Mike .. As to your original question the Watchman has a very high success rate of closure but with more and often larger leaks than are produced by the single central pucker leaks from a Lariat... However the outer edge nature of Watchman leaks makes the 'Almost' immune to causing any CVA events... That is not a guarantee but the observation so far is that only extremely few TIA likeby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
The Lariat's success rate of 85% is more or less baked into its design based on the original version Lariat experience simply because of two main issues ... The first is anatomical compatibility due to the previous original Lariats fixed size 40mm diameter pre-tied surrender not being big enough to fit around multi-lobed large LAA shapes, however the new Lariat + of the potential of a late rby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Just a quick note from the SXSW Music, Film and Interactive Technology Festival in Austin where we had a very nice panel conference yesterday discussing the promises and pitfalls of the newly evolving biometric data revolution, including such devices as ALiveCor heart monitor and app. More on that later, but the big news I learned yesterday is the Watchman device for LAA occlusion was finallyby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Welcome back home Lindam, I am in Austin right now and have to go get my SXSW badge for a talk tomorrow on biometric devices ( ALIVECOR in this case) and will not have time to respond until I get back on on Monday night or tuesday, Please send me a PM too to remind me on Monday evening and I will get back to you as soon as I can for some options. I also very much want to respond to the tby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks a bunch Ken, I really appreciate your insights on how the Alivecor has worked out for you. Take care, Shannonby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Steve, Happy 4th and many more to come! Many thanks too for you ongoing contributions here on the forum over the years as this ever expanding close nit community is what makes this place so special. Be well, Shannonby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Also, while on the topic of Alivecor monitors, Mellanie True Hills of Stop AFIB.org has asked me to relay to those here planning or thinking about attending her patient oriented AFIB Conference in Dallas the last weekend of this month that they have a special offer for Alivecor monitors you will surely want to know about, Below is an except from Mellanie's post to me for you all to read on tby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi All, I have been asked to be on a small panel at the upcoming 2015 SXSW Music/Film/Interactive Festival in Austin this weekend joining two doctors, one with WebMD and the other a NYC ER phyiscian and with me as the typical patient enduser while we explore the promises and pitfalls of the new Biometric revolution in health care and medicine. My roll will be in discussing the benefits asby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Good news Grady, You were the clean up batter on 'Afibbers Thursday' last week at St David's and Dr Natale was still pitching strikes :-) All that you report is general textbook stuff including the temporary tightness and discomfort at the bottom of a depth breath.. It kind of reminds me of someone pressing into my chest right in the center with the end of a hard eraser on a #2by Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
IN the original Cardymeter ( there blue one that looks like an old cell rectangular small cell phone or thin deck of playing cards) you have to calibrated it more frequently and use a true distilled water to clean the sensor and for a difference fluid for calibration before using a thin piece of absorptive paper with the saliva ,, either coating the paper strip with saliva or putting a piece on yby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Deluge, Great to hear from you too, seems like we've got a smorgasbord of new reports from Dr N patients this week, both new and now well seasoned such as yourself. I think that is likely the most common refrain we hear especially a few months out of longer as the ablation delivered stability really starts to settle in, that ..."I only wishe I had gone for it with the good doc a fby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Also Don. In addition to some of Jackies tips above, try moving to Topical magnesium for a while and either lower or stop the oral Mag as an experiment after getting the topical Mag going and up to speed. I prefer Magnesium Infusion from Activationproducts.com ... order at least one small 125ml spray bottle and then several of the larger 500ml replacement refill bottles. Good news Jim! You made a fine choice and now just ease back into things as its still early in the healing process. And don't fret about checking the pulse often, that instinctive reflex will die down naturally from the result of month upon month of NSR.... Cheers! Shannonby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Great report Travis! You get an A plus for in-depth coverage while in the middle of the fray ... sound a lot like me during my adventures :-) ... welcome to the party! Now take it easy as you well know and enjoy the fresh outdoors a bit today when you are sprung from St Davids, Isn't that a great hospital, crew and Doc?! And the food is right at gourmet restaurant grade for sure theby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Travis, And welcome back to this side of the fence after your ablation in Austin this morning, though you are still likely just waking in recovery as I type this. In any event, don't go taking 16 grams of Omega 3, that can also place a large antioxidant need burden on the body too as it is important to take a robust dose of fat soluble antioxidant like high quality natural mixed toby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks Jackie for all of your hard work and many contributions both to all of us and for me in particular!! Cheers! Shannonby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Ha Researcher, Yea, it was Utah Intermountain I was speaking of, whatever it was I said!! And YES indeed Auto-correct is the bane of my existence it seems :-) Especially when banging these things out on my I-phone 6+ ( which is nevertheless a real improvement for sure over the postage stamp size screen of my old I-phone 5) And as a note to everyone here, please forgive my many typos and maby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi John, The exercise can wait right now, let your heart heal and stick to nice walks alone at this point and yoga stretching moderate plates type stiff or mild body weight resistance training for the next couple weeks to keep toned. Wait for at minimum 6 weeks before ramping up a bit and don't resume full tilt levels until well after 3 months. You can do a robust program after 6 weeks orby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Great report John. Thanks for sharing it and best wishes on the speedy recovery that sounds well underway. Him versify of Utah reported on that and It was in Oct/Nov issue of AFIB Report I believe or Aug/Sept but I think it was the Oct issue Liz, am not at my computer at the moment. Your insurance us billed roughly $6,500 to $7,500 for the LINQ monitor and insertion procedure, calibration etc, the hospital won't get that much but such is the game of US health care where esch hospital has their own guidebook for procedure charges that have to submit to private insurance or Medicare in order to get back what they feel is the real cost including any profit needed to do busby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Erich the vast majority (around roughly 80%) of Afibbers over time with increasing episodes will increase their burden of 'Silent Cerebral Ischemia' (SCI) or Silent Cerebral Events (SCE) basically two acronyms for the same basic process. Still, active AFIB is the number one source of these SCI, we have published quiet a few study summaries on these SCI Impact including in the Dec/Janby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks for the report Jim, and I'm glad to hear Dr Pinkski has recovered from his arm injury of last year enough to resume doing ablations. Dr Natale thinks highly of him as well as one of his former protégés from the Cleveland Clinic days. Keep us posted on your progress and take it easy as you get back in the swing. Very good too you got in early after slipping into persistent AFIB.by Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Great to hear Nancy! And with the 84bpm post ablation HR it will reduce further as well, just give in more time and in some cases it can take up to two years to drop down to a true new baseline normal. Mine was 109 of NSR about 4 weeks out from the ablation though I went on sotalol for a few months and that kept it down at my pacemaker setting limit of 65 until I dropped the Sotalol at 5 monthby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Great to hear Smackman! It hardly seems like a year on one hand, and yet even longer on the other. I recall watching your procedure live at St Davids from their video conference amphitheater there during the EP Live 2014 two day training conference that a couple hundred EPs from all over flew in for and I was able to attend as well. I spoke twice to JohnB from Florida after his Thursday early morning ablation with Dr Natale at St Dabids and have gotten a few inquires as to how it all went so I thought I'd let everyone know that John is in good spirits and was to be discharged today at noon as planned in NSR and having been very impressed by the whole experience there.
