Hi All, As Jackie noted above, I receieved some wonderful news from Dr Christopher Wood after he finished what he called a fabulous surgery on Magdalena this morning. Not only was it a rousing technical success, as he was able to spare 95% of her left kidney while removing the tumor in the inferior pole of her kidney (that's a good example of why it pays to seek out the very best surgeby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi All, Just a quick note letting you all know that Magdalena is now in the middle of her open partial nephrectomy surgery for her left kidney renal cell carcinoma with kidney cancer expert Dr Christopher Wood at MD Anderson in Houston. We are both very glad and relieved to get this big step behind us now and I should hear within a 45 minutes to an hour or so that it's all over. Willby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Good Post Jackie, Just a quick adder here regarding the fat soluble Vitamin D3 and, indeed all four fat soluble vitamins including A, D, E and K2 that people will get far better absorption and assimilation of these nutrients either in food or, especially as supplemental intake, to take all of those fat soluble vitamins with the largest meal of the day containing a good deal of preferably healtby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM

David , Great to hear things went well in your procedure and happy holidays to you and all of our friends here! Please avoid the alcohol this holiday while things are still healing. Next year you can slip in a beer or wine or two , if you wish, but I wouldnt go jumping in right now during your blanking period. Like most have said, although having had a trainee EP do much of your procedurby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Good summary of the LAA issue Bill, And thanks folks for the best wises for Magdalena, she has been a real trooper and takes great comfort in knowing she has a truely elite level kidney surgeon. All the other docs and staff at MD Anderson speak of Dr Christoper Wood there with a similar level of respect and reverance that may of us feel about art Natale. Hi Mike, A quick note from Houston where my wife and I are resting tonight before our flight home tomorrow after a literal marathon week of endless testing, scanning, biopsy and doctor visits at the enormous MD Anderson Cancer Center her for planning my wife's renal cell carcinoma surgery on her left kidney, as well as other necessary evaluations. Her first step is the kidney cancer openby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Best wishes David but you won't need it, you're in very good hands and made the best possible choice available to you. Relax in that knowledge and enjoy the ride! Now it's back to sleep for me .. we're heading to Houston tomorrow. Be well, Shannonby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Travis And welcome to our cozy board here, where you will find a wealth of in-depth advice and guidance. I am on a temporary sabbatical at the moment but when I saw your thread post come through my in box I wanted to also add a little perspective to working with Dr Natale that many of his former patients have already shared with you above and in light of our conversation in Chicago last monby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Just a quick drop in an hello to all and continued heartfelt thanks for the kind words for Magdalena and I. We are in the process of making our way to Houston Texas, where I spent most of my youth from age 2 until graduation from high school after my family moved there from Charlotte North Carolina where I was born. Many thanks once again for all the well wishes for Magdalena and myself. Ive had a two requests for a photo of Magdalena and so have posted a recent one on my little Google+ 'afibbers.org' site that I use just for posting such photos and videos of interest to us afibbers until I have a chance to fully revamp the website, hopefully during he coming new year, to be able to host videos, phby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Just a quick check in before closing eyes after another very long day to send our heartfelt thanks from Magdalena and I for all the kind thoughts of support and well wishes. She is very touched by the expressions of you all and it really did give her a good shot in the arm. She has been a real trooper from day one as it is. Take care all and many thanks again ... Cheers! Dear Afibber Friends, In light of the many requests I receive for advice and assistance with AFIB issues, and my duties in putting out the AFIB Report and website management, a sudden development in my, and my dear wife Magdalena's, life that came out of the blue this past Sunday evening when we received diagnosis of her having kidney cancer has shot her health and well being to the veryby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks Larry, Was just fixing to post that link for Nancy, its amazing how many useful nuggets of gold can be found in the archives here. Am going to start offering a 'blast from the past' feature as a closing last sections of the AFIB Report next year where we revisit those most keenly relevant reports Hans had previously explored and that so many continuously ask about now in thby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Liz, a Medrol pack which is what he is prescribing can be quite helpful in short run doses like that as a powerful anti-inflammatory, but will review more on it and all the pros and things to be aware of with it when I have time soon, hopefully over the weekend. I'm really swamped now finishing up the AFIB Report among other sudden demands on my attention and focus at the moment. Hereby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Phil. Yes, by now any post ablation added stroke/clot risks that might occur directly, or indirectly, from the lesion inflammation, and scar formation still on going during the first three months post ablation, will long be over with by now and the only reason at all you should be on a blood thinner as strong as Xeralto now, is if there is enough AFIB/Flutter or some other CVD issue , suchby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
I have used George's recommended tigger point self treatment since he kindly showed me how when he and his fiancé visited Sedona earlier this year and we knocked around the beautiful sights here and had a nice lunch with my wife as well. Hi Liz, Sorry for the delay was busy all weekend on AFIB Report and less time to check in. Ask your doc if he or she is familiar with the Magna-Safe registry for doing full on MRI scans with powerful 1.5 tesla MRI machines with no problems!! I underwent a 2.5 hour contrast MRI on my brain and heart this past June at Scripps La Jolla during the search for my small stroke due to my LARIAby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi McHale, It's a good use of the AliveCor which comes in handy for cases just like yours and a number of other scenarios both before and after a successful ablstion process. Afterward once you know pretty much things are golden, it is mostly for security sake, but it makes sense too periodically and as long one doesn't get too wrapped up or fanatical checking several times a day of sby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks for the update Ken, Jackie put it very well, and keep in mind with your unusual cardiac anatomy with the PLSVC, that it's quite possible those triggers in the CS and PLSVC area may start to increase activity over time as well. When, and if, you notice that 'AFIB creep' is increasing in spite of every effort to control it with natural and/or drug means, then head back to Aby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Alexe, Good that you are willing to tone down the heavier lifting to failure. I've relayed here before the stern warning and advice from Dr. Natale this past June to a 64 year old friend of mine who is very fit and lifted some pretty heavy weights such they he had two untreated sports hernias in his abdomen that where obviously visible after his ablation in early June. ANTI-AFIB, In PhilS's case, at this point he isn't going to a follow up ablation right now, he noted he would wait 6 months and see how things go before consulting again with Dr Ernst, who feels like a follow up ablation will be in the cards for him, and it may very well be so, with the discovery of actual AFIB/AT and not just PACs on the monitoring. He only thought he was experienciby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM

Hi PhiS Once you have had an ablation, many EPs if they see any breakthroughs at all while they are monitoring things they will keep the person on a blood thinner. Which doesn't make much sense in a case like yours at 44 years old and I presume no other CVD risk factors with a CHADS2 score of ZERO in which case both the US and EU AFIB guidelines clearly state OAC/NOAC drugs are actuallyby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Good points TomC, It's a balance as in most things in life, an expert ablation process is very often the key cornerstone to longer term success, but a person can really help smooth out the bumps in the road that can occur, even post ablation, by making a commitment to taking better care of themselves, before, during and life long after a successful ablation process. 3 days is fine and your are not going to stroke out from that. Aspirin is or little to know value for primary stroke prevention to begin with and when it is still prescribed for people with CAD is more or longer term stats showing a very marginal potential benefit in slightly lessening second MIs and CVD events, but not strokes. Great to hear Chris, another with LAA Isolation and not requiring long term anticoagulation. The overall stats seem to hold between 40% to 60% that may have too low a flow .. as I did .. after LAA Isolation and then there on the flip side around 60% to 40% who are home free ... as we have seen here as well a fair mix of both sides of the coin for post LAA isolation at the 6 months follow up.by Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM

Hi Nick, You should do fine and thats a great crew there at Scripps Green at Torrey Pines, its very reassuring too that, once again as I have seen time and time and time again, when Dr Natale goes back in for a touch up of one of his prior ablations, especially when he did the first one and no one else has been in there, there are literally no reconnected spots that need addressing almost invaby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks for the update Afjun, and good news you got this last piece of the puzzle covered now. You'll be up and about soon after only an LAA isolation. This is a common culprit especially for late appearing arrhythmia many years after a previously successful ablation, especially after a first one done by an EP as thorough and highly skilled as Dr Natale, where very rarely is there any at all,by Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
