Thanks George, Magdalena and I got back safe and sound last evening, you both enjoy your last days in Santa Fe and best wishes to Theresa too, she's a warm and intelligent lady with an interesting and varied background as well and looks like you hit the jackpot in connecting with her. You two make a very nice couple. Magdalena is looking forward to meeting you both as well next time we hoby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
You generally dont have to stop most supplements with the exception of Nattokinase and keeping Omega 3 to around 1 gram to 2 grams max of combined DHA-EPA. To be on the absolute safe side and because of a general lack of experience with these supplements, many EPs will just ask that you stop them out of not being sure what effect they might be having, It wont hurt much to take a temporary bby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
A little follow up to my post from above. My wife and I are heading back home to Sedona tomorrow after several relaxing days in Santa Fe NM visiting my brother and his family for the Holidays. One of the highlights being meeting yo with GeorgeN and his lovely girlfriend Theresa in person at long last after having known each other for almost 12 years virtually and on the phone. All the best to everyone for a rewarding and healthy 2014! We are starting early this morning the 6 hour drive to Santa Fe to visit my brother and family and make a rendezvous with GeorgeN and Theresa so that will be fun! Holiday Cheers! Shannonby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Yep McHale was literally one of the very first pioneers at St Luke's in NYC the very first week Dr Natale started doing ablations there and the whole staff there was, to say the least, not quiet yet up to speed. As such, his ablation report went missing, though Dr N had given him a through review of all that was ablated, so hopefully they will be able to recreate a full report from the Cartoby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Windstar I second Iatrogenia's recommendation for the CPMC folks, I have been seeing Dr Natale there regularly for the last six years with just under three dozen office visits there over the years, as well as two TEE's, three Transthoracic Echos and an LAA isolation ablation and it has always been first class and smooth sailing. Also, I have the same high marks for Dr Natale'by Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Great to hear McHale, Although we've kept in close touch so its no surprise and its the norm with a great EP behind the catheter. You've done well and maybe this is it already, though we have spoken about the odds with having some OSA and possibly needing a touch up at some point, but with Dr N really being so much more proactive than most and challenging the heart to find other non-by Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Also Stephen, if it is related to one of the new supplement formulas its then likely to be a kind of heart burn or esophageal irritation reaction so why not stop them For a couple days and see it the focal chest pain goes away then add back only one formula at a time for a week or two to see which one is causing the problem ... In the event it is related to the new supplements. Shannonby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
If its transitory focal pains similar to what you felt a right after the ablation its possible its either some remnant pericarditis flaring up a bit or if its very transient and if you notice it more the day of and day after resistance exercise then it could be localized muscle/tissue strain around the cartilage of the sternum from the chest presses ... Or push ups ... Assuming your exercise inclby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
There is a full blown one way street war going on right now with the deliberate attempt to discredit ALL nutritional supplements ( not just the obvious suspect ones like the relative few quick fat loss formulas that are packed with too high a doses of caffeine and other stimulants as well as some, but not all, body building supplements a few of which have been found to contain unlisted steroidsby Shannon - GENERAL HEALTH FORUM
Hi Ron and George, I've ben taking Life Extensions Magnesium Threonate called 'Neuro-Mag' for the last two years with two capsules twice a day morning and before bed. Mag Threonate is a special form of Magnesium that more readily passes through the blood/brain barrier and some studies support its enhancement of cognitive function. It also has much less tendency toward boweby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi John. Its not uncommon for their to be runs of AFIB after an ablation during the three month blanking period and particularly in the first 4 to 6 weeks post ablation. Keep in mind how raw and inflamed those ablated tissues are and visualize the continuously variable wall thickness around those PV antrum muscle sleeves where most all of your ablation too place. With variable thickness andby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Louise, Thanks for the reminder about the more recent small study on Nattokinase. I fully believe the results and it follows clearly what has been known for some time about its benefits. Keep in mind that I AM a big believer in using it appropriately. I also am sure that is will help reduce the risk of clot formation in most cases where there isn't a more significant driver or suby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Barb,' ' Such good news though not unexpected in your case! You deserve this good holiday gift after all you have been through in 2013.. Here's wishing you and much brighter and joy filled 2014! Hi ronbn49, Ive used Cardiokinase which is the strongest and purist new 'N-strain' of Nattokinase for years, and understand well it many excellent properties. However, for people with a documented serious ongoing risk for embolic stroke from the LAA ( left atrial appendage) such as having a documented reduced blood velocity in and out of the LAA below 40cm/sec and an inconsistent A-by Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi John, The thing about the Strategy protocol and heart calming mineral repletion, this has to be given at least a year of dedicated effort, combined with a number of key tests to verify whether or not this will help in a given case. It is common for folks to just try some magnesium, taurine and potassium for a while and find they still have some breakthroughs and dismiss it as ineffective whby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks George for the Medscape direct link and not my own account, I changed the link in my initial post as well. Yes, all the slight of hand using relative risk to make a drug appear to be 50% safer with respect to a single variable when, in fact there is about a 99.4% chance of that never being relevant for any given patient tells a very different story and if these drug risks were explainedby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
As some of you know, I enjoy certain article from the active EP blogger Dr John Mandrola and find them informative and well written, while other topics don't quite ring my bell so much, as in his emphasis on a promoting a 'Less is More' approach in all of medicine including AFIB ablation, that while it sounds appealing on the surface and certainly seems a politically correct stanceby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Good news John, thanks for your report! From your mercifully very brief and not too intense AFIB history, with little to no long term episodes from what I understand from your report, you are the ideal textbook candidate for a very straightforward and basic PVI/PVAI procedure with a good 80% to 85% chance of long term success from a single procedure when done by a good EP as Dr Michaud clearlyby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Great news Iatrogenia, It pays to stick with those already very talented EPs, like Dr Hao, who were trained by the very best in Dr Natale, in how best to perform these complex procedures! Natale only recruits what he feels are the most promising up and coming EPs to mentor and you made a good choice. Best wishes on continued NSR and gradually realizing this is behind you. Hi oneway pockets, After hearing your story with the longer periods of constant AFIB and the overall number of years of having it, I was figuring you might well need a more extensive first ablation. Much better to get the vast majority, if not the whole thing, done there first time. I also required a long one at almost 5 total hours duration ( which is a long time for Natale) of which 117 mby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Chuck, Yes there are no dumb questions if getting an answer might help you feel more reassured and confident and, perhaps, increase your understanding of the process as a bonus. No way to rank any of them. Just stick to those issues that you would most like to hear a clarification with. You wont get a lot of nutritional/supplemental guidance there as that is not his specialty so better tby Shannon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks Jackie, Ive been taking 12mg/day of Astaxanthin for a little over four years now as well. Great stuff and it has helped keep my CRP very low at 0.15 for hsCRP and that last was measured within less than only one month post my Lariat procedure. Murray, That was quite an ordeal with that nasty Flu strain! Was the sleep apnea, hypertension and other problems all after the flu or it must have been that some of those were preexisting prior to the flu it would seem, though I can imagine have a serious viral infection like that could exascerbate more of this issues as well. Its a variable thing Ralph, thats what makes it so difficult. For some, they are able to find a key thing to help control things for a long time and the supplement protocols promoted here are a good example of that and are a foundational help for many of us.
