Barb, I guess you can say somewhat rocky road but nothing that prevented me from my daily activities. It's more the dread of the flutter coming back then ending up back to get cardioverted again. Not that it's all that big a deal but more of a hassle and not knowing what the future brings with this. When I mentioned because of the pacs pvcs and flutter that I backed off a little on myby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hey Chuck, I met Dennis again at St Lukes yesterday during my 2 month followup with Dr Natale. So let me update my progress too. Today makes 9 weeks since my ablation and have been in NSR all but for about 2 weeks. At day 15 I went into Tachy, flutter, some afib and finally then it settled into a steady 130-140 bpm flutter. At day 30 Dr Barret did an ECV at 50 joules and boom NSR again. I haby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Tish, I understand your hesitation about being on blood thinners the rest of your life and Dr Natale told me the same thing. He told me he would not get too aggressive if he found activity in the left atrial appendage the first time around. I also asked him about his findings of 27% of persistent and long standing persistent have activity in this area and the only way to successfully stop AFIBby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM

Shannon, Yes there is a learning curve and it will be limited to highly trained EPs and Cardiologists. You got the best doing your procedure! It's amazing what the interventional cardiologists are doing today. And like ablations you must go to a high volume center for the best results. I just got the results during my moms followup last week for her TAVR aortic valve replacement. lastby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Shannon, Excellent post once again. I never thought about that once you obliterate the LAA that trigger source of arrhythmia totally disappears especially for you since you had lots of work there. Though I'm sure NATALE probably ablated it and shut it down for good anyway.by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
That is so true as my MRI revealed two prior older TIAs after my recent TIA September 5, 2012. I also had a conversation with the Chief Neurologist upon my release who suspects the majority of silent strokes come from paroxysmal affibers who don't even know they have this disease or have yet to be diagnosed or think being a CHADS 0 they have no risk like I did. I had 2 prior ones without eveby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Tom and Tom, I had a 2-3 hour flutter 133 bpm Saturday myself after a light workout but I'm in my blanking period and tomorrow makes 7 weeks. This time I converted without needing a ECV like I did 16 days earlier. Hopefully ill heal in the net 6 weeks or else it's touch up time too. Maybe it's good In fact, some research has shown that those who do have some afib in the first thby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Dr Natale is well aware of how to ablate AFIB ih patiemts with sleep apnea as he ablated my 3rd fat Pad in the Superior Vena Cava see part of a video transcript below: "One of the real pioneers in ablation of atrial fibrillation, Dr. Andrea Natale, who is now in Austin, Texas, as part of his catheter ablation procedure for atrial fibrillation would always make a line of ablation, a circleby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
The 2 most important questions are; how often do you get AFIB and how long do your episodes last?by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hey Barb, Doing great 8 days out from my cardioversion and about 39 days since my ablation. Heart is ticking alike a Swiss Watch again. Flutter is not dangerous unless it gets into the high 170-200 bpm plus range. I wasn't too high the first week or so maybe in and out of NSR staying around 100 but around 120-130 most of the time in the last 4-5 days before the ECV.. Not pleasant either wby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Whew is right-Flutter sucks worse than afib Anymore episodes? Happy 4th McHaleby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Latrogenia, I wish you a speedy recovery and long live in NSR. So gald you're on the other side with us. Best, McHaleby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Barb, I starting taking care of my mom at day 5 post ablation took her to Mt Sinai for an agiogram a 12 hour day for her aortic valve replacement 9 days later. Then spent 8 days after my heart went wacky in Mt Sinai with her. I've been runniing her to doctors since her release too. I'm fine actually I starting working out at day 10 then day 14 with about 3 mile jog and 3 hours of liby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hey Dennis, You got cardioverted quick which is good after 6 days. Mine took almost 2 weeks before I got to see Dr Barrett. We thought maybe things would settle down and I was dealing with my mom in the hospital. We both had more extensive ablations into the coronary sinus and other areas which maybe why we developed flutter. Mine dialed in at 120-133 the last 5 days before being cardioverted.by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
I went off the Flecainide for 6 days and my EKG showed I was in AFIB right before the procedure.by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Ken, Good question but hard to answer! I was on Flec for 26 months and at the end the last 3-4 months started getting afib around sometimes twice a week but always self-converting. I was paroxysmal but heading toward persistent. I've had episodes last more than 48 hours on and off. Basically I waited too long.by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Dennis, How ironic you took my lead and got ablated-we both ended up going erratic exactly 2 weeks after our ablations-and meeting each other at Dr Barrett's office..........Anyway followup with Dr Barrett and Good Luck! It's just part of conquering this beast!by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hey Dennis, I got reset yesterday with with Dr Barrett 1 jolt of 50 Joules and boom back in NSR. A nice peaceful heart again after 2 weeks of flutter, Tachy etc.....filippies you name it. But it all morphed into a atrial flutter non-stop.Dr Barrett changed up my meds on Tuesday when I met you now on Multaq and tropol 25mg too. I think the Flec might have been proarrythmic I don't know but dby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Dr Barrett at St Lukes did my cardioversion yesterday one jolt 50 joules sweet NSR from flutter. Hopefully it was just part of the healing process during this first month.by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hey Dennis Thanks! BTW you look very familiar? where do you live? ABLATION it's not just a procedure but an adventure. I'm going round robin now a cardiovert....Yippee-ki-yay and if I'm lucky I get the trifecta a Flutter ablation!!!by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
I was thinking Dr Natale did your ablation but Dr Tchou would have been my next guess as they both were at the CC at the same time. Dr Tchou was a great student and trainned under Dr N.!by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM

Hi Elena, Okay here's the story. I met with Dr Barrett to discuss my recordings from LifeWatch and it looks like I'm in atrial flutter! Just some bursts of AFIB but nothing sustained. My EKG confirmed that today. So tomorrow I start Multaq after stopping the Flecainide today and get cardioverted on Friday to reset eveything. There's a 70-80% chance this will work and I get thru thby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
John, I pulled the trigger the day I met Dr Natale May 28 last month and within hours he was ablating away. I was scheduled the next day but he was booked with 2 ablations and a meeting he had to attend. McHaleby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hey Tom, I thought I would be forever young and I still believe that. Aging is a challenge but I look at my mom at 85 next month and she still has the right stuff. Never gets down and she was in HELL last week. Ablation is a walk in the park from what I saw last week. You too my friend be strong. The best to both of us! McHaleby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Best to you Latrogenia! Don't worry it's not that bad it's an adventure!by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hey Elena, Mom is okay now I got her home and brought in her sister from Greece. Too many pills to swallow close to 17. It was a week from hell as she developed ICU PSYCHOSIS which made her delirious and paranoid. She was possessed literally like in the Exorcist! As you know she had a TAVR aortic valve replaced from her femoral artery above her groin. I can't imagine what open heart wouldby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hey Tom, Sorry about the setback but we all must acknowledge the fact that one ablation for all of us who have been fighting this beast for years may not be enough. That's why the ongoing CABANA Trial is a national trial to help determine whether catheter ablation should be a first line therapy in patients at risk for the sequelae of AFib.” Waiting to get ablated might not be in anyone'by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
