Dr. Saliba: "We cannot talk about a cure for atrial fibrillation; mainly, because we do not understand the true mechanism of the disease. "by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
I just returned from my Cardiologist and one of the things discussed was ablation and the EP they hired to do Arctic Front Cyro who was initially involved in the trials in Virginia is also using RF along with Cryo. Don't know the details. Fire and ICE...interesting as this has been discussed here before.by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
I went to see Dr Steinberg who has done well over 2000 ablations and he offers both Cyro and RF with similar results at 80% paroxysmal which surprised me I thought he only did RF. He is highly regarded here in New York I also spoke to two other patients in the waiting room whose friends or relatives had successful ablations by him. He is also doing his own trials with FIRM with 6 other EP'by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Very inspirational my mom never lets anything get her down either. She's 84 has AFIB with all sorts of co-morbidities. Nicoll has had 3 ablations which I'm sure keeps the beast at bay.by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jill, So sorry to hear about your unfortunate circumstances. I would highly recommend staying on the statins they gave you as your risk of another stroke is very high since you already had 3. You thought fish oil and nattokinase were really effective for you with so much afib? .......I have tried everything I have read or studied on this forum but I can't deal with afib nutritionally if Iby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Same as RF maybe a little better according to Dr Reddy..... but too risky as Researcher will chime in here.Something to do with duration of the burns and tissue damage.by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Tom, In a 12-gauge copper wire carrying 20 Amps of current, the average speed of an electron is quite slow; about 1/250 of a mile per hour. There's just so many electrons moving along so slowly that it adds up to a substantial current. Why then, when you flip a switch, does the light turn on so quickly? That's due to wave propagation, which is much faster. I work with electrical distby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
EB, I just fell off my bed rolling on the floor laughing out loud slammed my head and bled to death while on Xarelto. Thanks Buddy!by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
"This says something. Theoretical concerns are one thing; case reports another, but the actual analysis of real bleeding events provides far more valuable information. It’s powerful data. Skeptics of industry-sponsored studies should take note that such hard outcomes, like death, time in the ICU and amount of blood products given are hard to manipulate. The conclusion here is clear. Tom, Also many times these "rotors" lie around the pulmonary veins so in effect in isolating the PV's you've also obliterated these electrical rotors or focal impulses during the burns........that's why you see many people here report one and done ablation success.by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
We'll know more soon.....Jan 17, 2013 at the AF Symposium. A husband and wife are also getting FIRM in January by Dr Narayan on another forum waiting to hear their experience.by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Probably PV triggers are contained and not fueling rotors or modulation..........in other words electrical signals can only be transferred over a limited passband frequency spectrum which is now fenced off.......... FIRM hopefully will address today's ablation shortcomings....by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Marvelous I'm doomed......bleed or stroke! I'll take the bleed!by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM

I just finished my 4th beer.......Hey it's Friday night give me a break!by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Tom, Yes alcohol can trigger afib 12 hours later but many times it's also calmed my heart down go figure that one out. Afib ablation is not necessarily a cure for most of us.....the beast is still lurking around. PVI ablation is a one procedure fits all approach which differs greatly from focally targeted procedures used to ablate all other arrhythmias......... hopefully this will change soby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
He's back........I was told he's got more exciting news a few months ago....let's see Is PV Isolation Necessary for Successful Ablation of PAF? Sanjiv Narayan, MD, PhD Are Rotors the Predominant Mechanism in All Patients with AF? Implications for Catheter Ablation Sanjiv Narayan, MD, PhD Vivek Reddy is also doing a few presentations.....by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Glen, Great description of what I get and the capacity analogy is right on.by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Ralph, That would be a great App to see if what you're really feeling is afib not pacs/pvc's and we can stop with the guessing games. Hopefully they'll make a case for the iPhone 5.by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Barb, I really liked Dr Reddy even thou he was a bit rushed with me since he was running late. My disbelief was with your cardio even recommending Dr Altman after he told you Dr Reddy was a genius if I remember your post correctly...... I still haven't scheduled anything....it's hard when your in NSR I know I know my recent TIAby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Barb, What hospital is this EP affiliated with? I thought I read your cardiologist raved about Dr Reddy at Mt Sinai?????by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Yes it's the same Dr Reddy from Mt Sinai and I really liked him! His center does 800 ablations a year. He has his own lab I was told. I love that hospital they way they treated my mom during her valvoplasty because of her aortic stenosis. Top notch nurses and EP's. Steinberg is out of St Luke's /Columbia and Valley Hospital out of New Jersey. I'm leaning toward Reddy myselfby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hey Shannon, Got them Thanks!by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Shannon Thanks! It's a personal choice ! Check your PMby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hey Lou, This is hard to swallow sometimes but necessary. I just read this last night that might be of interest to you: There are many other potential trouble sources of emboli, including the atrial septum, left-sided valves, carotids, and aorta. What's more, most of the risk factors for stroke in patients with AF are systemic—age, hypertension, and diabetes, for example. He made thisby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
