• FHRS-designated EPs who perform A-Fib ablations in the US A Pulmonary Vein Isolation (PVI) is the most challenging, demanding ablation an Electrophysiologist performs, but no specific certification is required. Any EP is allowed to do PVIs. To distinguish more experienced EPs in the PVI field, patients can look for the credential "FHRS" after a doctor's name. A Fellowby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
When it comes to preventing atrial fibrillation, not all antihypertensive agents are created equal. New research suggests that angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, angiotensin II-receptor blockers (ARBs), and beta-blockers are all superior to calcium channel blockers in the reducing the risk. It would stand to reason then it would help further episodes and/or prevent any furtby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
My Mom also had that murmur at first....... you need to get yearly echos to track any stenosis.by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
I watched my Mom almost go on me last week after she called me in the morning telling me she couldn't breath. It was horrifying watching her gasp for every breath but she made it by the grace of God had a BAV to open up her severe aortic stenosis. She still refuses valve replacement. I'm hoping for a percutaneous valve replacement by her surgeon at Mt Sinai who's in trials rightby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Amio actually works well in the elderly and as long as it's monitored for side effects it might be the best choice we have. My Mom might have to be put on it after slipping back into afib after her for cardioversion last week. Both my cardiologist and her EP at Mt Sinai stated Amnio properly dosed and monitored is safe and effective.by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
The EP's at Mt Sinai don't believe there is enough information to risk stroke with the new agents so I agreed and put MOM on coumadin.by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jackie, Just wondering if a glass of potassium water and batch her feet in Epsom salts would help helpful.....by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
I told her to quit taking Lasix already to spare her potassium since they told me is was somewhat low at 4.1 if I remember correctly from all the chaos. Her Iron was low so we are supplementing with that. I'll need to check the rest of her bloodwork and I'll talk to her doctors about statins. I'll get her some Epsom salts later to bath her feet. Thank You so much! Hans Kudosby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Jackie, Thank You so much for the thoughts and prayers. I know we clash sometimes but hey that's what makes this forum so valuable. Watching her so helpless battling to stay alive and breath is something no one should experience. We'll we cardioverted her on Thursday afternoon and the TEE to check for clots was quite the ordeal along with the actuall conversion. I watched the spiby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Belinda, It's time I think you did the right thing booking an ablation....... or you can keep trying supplments until it's too late to have a successfull ablation due to remodeling. More and more success stories pop up here almost daily from posters who've gone the ablation route. The one thing you didn't mention was Antiarrhythmic drugs? Did you try any?by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thank You! I'm still getting used to the new forum.by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Interesting I just consulted with two EP's at Mt Sinai in NYC before my mom's cardioversion after I expressed my preference for Pradaxa. I decided to stick with warfarin since Pradaxa is not really the gold standard warfarin is with valve disease.by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM

JackC, Sounds like I'm mimicking you exactly. Just stopped Multaq and Metropolol 4 days ago and feeling good 4 days in NSR with a brief period of 2 hours saturday with erratic beats. The lethargic feeling has lifted today getting off those drugs. Let's see if anything changes being drug free and just using supplements. So do we eventually have to get the ablation............... or shoulby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Bubee, Just curious about your sleep apnea, how did you cure it? I too was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea which they say is linked to afib. I used CPAP for almost 9 months but it was demoralizing sleeping with a mask on being single. Went to two ENT's who both told me I had a pretty open airway with minimal tongue collapse but a elongated palate with severe palatial collapse. In June Iby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
I've just stopped my Multaq after using it for a month and also stopped Tropol XL 25mg as an experiment. Thurs/Friday was the last day. I'm using all the supplements as recommended on this board. During that month I still went into some kind of event every 7-10 days, not sure if it's afib ectopics PVC's or pac's. I wont see my cardiologists till next month. Erling, I think your right about the only advantage of liposome is a quick boost. Jarrow Formulas are all top notch and this is their patented formula. Jarrow Formulas NAC SUSTAIN will release in the small intestine over a 2-4 hour period in order to maintain blood levels over a longer period of time. Erling, I take Jarrows N-A-C sustain bi-layer tablets twice a day, time release formula patented. All makers of encapsulated products make that claim of poor absorption so you buy their outrageous price liposome formulas. Can you provide proof and some evidence on whether there is poor absorption. Would appreciate your insight.by McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jackie, I've been drinking coffee all my life.....tons of it with no problem. Also at times coffee has helped smooth out my rhythm.....so what's changed? Hey Kurt, I'm glad you don't let it bother you. I'm in the same boat I think. Are you on medication ? Blood thinners? Is your heart healthy otherwise? I found evidence that while in AFIB your LA dilates and within 1 hour after restoration of Sinus Rhythm there is a marked decrease in LA. The left atrium was dilated in all patients during AF (48 ± 5 mm). The size of the left atrium decreased after restoration of sinus rhythm in all patients with spontaneous reversion to sinus rhythm, in 73% of patients reverted with drugs, and in 50% ofby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM

Bill, I 'm also a lifter been doing it all my life, did 405lbs on the decline bench at 49. Three years later and two shoulder problems in between tearing rotator and Supra-spinatus at 52 I developed AFIB. Now at 54 I try to go much lighter to tone too. Bill, Do you consider Larry Chinitz a to EP up there with Natale? My Echo just came back with a LAE of 4.6 from 4.1. Should I worry? I think the Tech doing the ECHO was challenged, she had trouble taking my blood pressure. I will admit I was in AFIB or was having a bad run of PAC's/PVC that day so would this skew the results and show a larger Left Atrium while in AFIB? I live in Queens 5 minby McHale - AFIBBERS FORUM
