Years ago, before a-fib, I took Paxil for some major work stressors, and it took about 4 weeks to kick in. Taking it felt as if it "evened me out" -- there were no highs or lows, and I felt that I had flat affect. After the job stressors settled down (years later!), and under doctor's supervision, I was weaned off of it over a period of about 6 weeks. Currently, about twoby SueChef - AFIBBERS FORUM
Prozac had no ill effects on my AFIB. None; zilch. I actually started Prozac after my 2nd Ablation to cut down on benzodiazepines like Klonopin which is helpful but extremely addicting and extremely hard to get off of. Sorry for the late post. My wife has me busy traveling since her retirement 2 years ago.by smackman - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thank yoy, Steve, for your reply. While you were taking Prozac, did you notice if it had an effect on your afib episodes? Either a good effect, a bad effect or no effect? I understand that you still have afib episodes. How often? and how do you cope with them? Have you considered another ablation? If you did not like Prozac, you could have tried another SSRI pill. Hi Steve... You said: Jackie i am at times my own worst enemy as many of us in afib land are. I worry about things and anxiety sets in. My mother when she was living would always say to me Steve would you please stop worrying. I am better but still there is some there. Leah, I was given klonopin by the shrink before ablation because i would not be able to get to sleep because i seemed to have afib at night. It did calm me down and i still am on it today 1/2 mg morning and evening. I have not increased it at all and that was before 2005. I at one time used prozac and i guess it helped some but didn't like the way it made me feel so i went off it andby SteveDaley - AFIBBERS FORUM
i had my ablation in 2008 and really it has been fairly successful i don't think it is a total cure but for some controls afib. I was put on Toprol 25er right after the ablation and most of my doctors patients had the same treatment. About 2 years after ablation i got bad case of Bronchitis and had two episodes of afib. At the time i was using PIP or pill in pocket if i had an episode.by SteveDaley - AFIBBERS FORUM
On the torquing issue with repetitive stress from golf swing.... this is not uncommon... witness the many professional golfers having back surgery. We don't hear of the pros having Afib issues, but it doesn't mean that the torquing actions on the spine would not contribute to irritation of the vagus nerve which can also impact the heart. Hi Steve - you and I have "talked" a lot about this issue and I'm sorry to read your post and current status. What are you taking in the way of daily supplements to replenish your electrolytes... including magnesium, potassium and sodium? It's been very warm and the potential for loss is great. Glad you are hydrating but most likely you need the extra minerals as wellby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Steve: I wouldn't get another Ablation, unless the AFIB itself is back, and looks like it is not going to get better. Have you had any other Cardiac tests done recently? Like an Echo, Nuclear Cardiac Stress Test, or Angiogram? Your Anxiety about your Chest may alleviated if the Tests showed nothing was really wrong. Or they would lead towards treatment if that is needed. As you proby The Anti-Fib - AFIBBERS FORUM
I am an fibber who had an ablation and who for the most part is doing well however i have anxiety which when i have chest i call them bumps or movements my anxiety amps up. Today i played golf and it was hot but in my chest area i seem to have skipped beats at least that is what i think. I felt fatique at times light headed however not into afib. Leah - You're wise to ask the question about those who have afib and the effect of Prozac. Most likely, it's an individualized response depending on what else is going on in the body but still is, as you say...a major concern. Do some online reading about the book by Psychologist, Ann Blake Tracey titled Prozac: Panacea or Pandora? The Rest of the Story on the New SSRI Antideby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
smackman, Did you start with the Prozac after the ablation you went through, or while you still were having afib episodes from time to time? Did the ablation (2nd one) free you from afib? I am asking all these question to see if the Prozac for you had no effect on the frequency and magnitude of the afib episodes. Because as I said this is a major concern for me. Thanks, smackman, for your reply. I have decided to see a psychiatrist and get an SSRI tablet. I get an anxiety spell that lasts a few hours almost every evening. As I mentioned in my post, Escitalopram did trigger afib episodes for me, so I am anxious about it. I had an ablation almost two months ago, but i am not totally free of afib yet. I am 60 years old and I take 20 mg of Prozac daily without issue. It takes up to 8 weeks for a SSRI to really start working. I would stay away from the Benzodiazepines like Klonopin as they are Highly addictive and heck to get off of. No SSRI has cause AFIB. I also take Eliquis and it does not affect me and I am on 2.5 mg of Eliquis 2x a day for life due to LAA isolation on 2nd Afib Ablation. Gby smackman - AFIBBERS FORUM

Yes, I do understand your concerns. I first started having irregular heart beats when I began menopause. I have had horrible hot flashes now for 12 yrs. Don't despair Tracy! Look on the bright side, you have had 'only' one afib episode and very few other problems. It has likely got to do with change of hormone levels. I'd send my wife to a specialist and he'll tell you what to do. As for your anxiety, i know it is easy for others to rationalize, but difficult for the sufferer.
