Thanks bill Your message is really encouraging. I do agree that I can empower myself to control the a fib and reduce its frequency and maybe even cure it through ablation. I think what Is really hard for me specifically is that there is almost an embarrassing feeling (maybe shame) that I feel if it happens when I am out with friends or at work. I generally have not really told people about the aby jj - AFIBBERS FORUM

JJ, I do agree the paroxysmal nature of AFIB is disturbing. The waiting for it to happen occupies your thoughts, and if you are adrenergic, can bring on the attacks, if it has not already. In the two years prior to my ablations, I was in AFIB everyday. It would always start in the middle of the afternoon, likely due to a accumulation of work stress and worry about when the AFIB would rear its ugby BillB - AFIBBERS FORUM
In response to a few questions: I generally do consider myself to be wound a bit too tight. I do tend to worry about my health in general. I am a physician and sometimes i think it tends to make things worse. As far as diseases go afib is definately not as bad as some others but the paroxysmal nature of it is quite terrible for someone who is already a bit anxious as you constantly feel thatby jj - AFIBBERS FORUM
jj I have found that supplementing with magnesium to bowel tolerance has significantly reduced all my anxiety plus l-theanine for specific stressful times. I had progressively gotten more and more anxious and tended towards panic attacks as I got older. Then afib hit, found this BB and started the essential trio. In hindsight, I believe I was becoming more and more deficient in mag and potassiby Cyndie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Just curious. Did you have problems with anxiety prior to having AFIB? Or is this a new thing? Back before my ablations I often thought anxiety was causing my AFIB. If I could only calm down ... This was only natural as I was always wound a little too tightly. But after the ablations, I realized it was probably mostly the other way around. I realized I was no longer wound all that tightly, and thby BillB - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks for the response I know intellectually that lone afib wont kill me and that really it is a nuisance more than anything. Most days I just say thanks that it isnt something that will kill me. When I have a bad day with lots of pac/pvc or afib its hard not to feel sorry for oneself and remeber the days when there was no a fib and you could go for a drink and have a large latte. Anyway thaby jj - AFIBBERS FORUM
jj: Time. It just take time to realize you've got a thorn in your flesh for the rest of your life and the only thing you can do is chill with it. Trust me, I know. You can slam your head against a wall or cower around like a gun shy hound OR you can flip the haunting spirit (afib) the bird and move on. There's really no reason to be anxious.by Chris - AFIBBERS FORUM
JJ: Properly treated, afib won't be the cause of your ultimate demise, and neither will anxiety. I agree with Brian that there's not that much to be anxious about but try using that thought to calm yourself when you're in the throes of the downward thought pattern in the middle of the night, and it doesn't get rid of the anxiety. Certainly the medications you mention do getby Gordon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hello all New to the forum I am 34 years old and I have had a fib for the better part of a year. I have had 3 episodes of a fib and have since changed my diet and lifestyle to try to avoid triggers. I also get frequent PAC/PVC which i find almost as nerve-racking as the actual afib as i keep worrying that they will bring on another attack Aside from medications (ativan valium ectt..) has anyonby jj - AFIBBERS FORUM
Aaron- welcome. I'm sorry you are joining us but there is an abundance of helpful information here. Sorry, also, that you are unemployed; that stress certainly is huge. Definitely, start the Essential Trio and stop the Centrum for a while as it undoubtedly contains calcium which can contribute to afib if your intracellular stores of magnesium are low. A good B complex would be useful fby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hey all! Im glad I found this site and its helped alot mentally!! Im 25 years old, not too overweight (195 lbs), been laid off for a year and a half (alot of stress and not enough excercise!!) and had my first afib experience about a 3 weeks ago. I was just tossing a football around and wham...heart going crazy! Called the ambulance, stayed the night in the hospital, and converted in the morninby Aaron - AFIBBERS FORUM
I have had tinitus from the age of 25 and then 20 years latter I get Afib, could it be that my body from the early age of 25 didn't absorb magnesium well ? Thought some may be interested in this. Thanks for the quick reply Jackie. At the beginning, I did get very anxious when I had an episode. But I have a good GP who sent me for councelling for Health Anxiety. Gradually I learned to accept that I had AF, but it probably was'nt going to kill me, and to learn to live with it. After a time the episodes got further apart, and I am sure it was to do with learning to control my anxiety.by James - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi everyone. I am interested in finding out some information about Afib. I know there are a lot of people on here with different experiences of episodes. The first question I have is: How do you all manage your Afib episodes. eg. Do you try to ignore it and continue whatever you are doing, or do you succumb to it and lie down or sleep until it passes? Question 2: How do you cope with ectopicby James - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi. I was just wondering if having the cold virus could increase the possibility of Afib attacks. I seem to remember reading somewhere that this can happen. The reason I am asking is, I am moving house at the moment and I know that the stress has probably made my Afib worse. But I started with a cold yesterday, and apart from the fact I feel rotten, I seem to be in Afib more than I was. I alsoby James - AFIBBERS FORUM
Arthur, I don't know how you came up with that broad summary of vagal and adrenergic folks, but the vagal part absolutely fits me to a T! The 4am maximum anxiety bit particularly struck home for me: if I wake up 3-4am and start thinking about everything, it all looks waaaaaay bad (I have over the years learned to largely ignore myself at that time of night!); and way worse than it does onceby Mike - AFIBBERS FORUM
For some, digestion can play a big role. The whole issue of paleo diet addresses a number of items - potential food sensitivities like gluten/gliaden, casein and soy. Food additives such as MSG and glutamates and also blood sugar. In my own case, though sex has never been a trigger, the vagal aftermath of sex can precipitate PAC runs that could initiate afib. My own experience has been that oby GeorgeN - AFIBBERS FORUM
Ivan - I totally agree with James - the PIP approach would be perfect and very emotionally reassuring that you have a Plan B at your fingertips at any moment in time. I still carry my PIP like a security blanket. I think you are smart not opting for ablation until you are sure you absolutely need it. If your afib has held off that long, it makes no sense to have the procedure and I'm reby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
The original post.... "What About Taurine" seems not to be available on the old BB which is now inactive. Taurine is part of the Essential Trio and is found to be very useful. I'm reposting the original and several other links posted along the way as updates. I just had a colonoscopy April 23rd and I did not have a problem with afib - for fasting I used chicken and veggie broths and I used fresh lime and lemon juices in water to maintain my blood sugar - my doctor recommends sports drinks to mix the powdered stuff (Miralax 238 grams) she uses for prep, which I would never tolerate, so I mixed the powdered stuff with electrolyte enhanced water (one froby LynnJ - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jackie, I am sure that this isn't a new or very startling observation, but could it be that the reason for the rising incidence of afib is because we have been increasingly and unwittingly ingesting higher amounts of processed foods and fast foods that contain high amounts of sodium? In addition, we eat fewer and fewer vegetables and fruit that naturally contain Potassium. Therefore,by Carol - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Mike, Still taking 20mg omeprazole (prilosec or losec) a day and now been taking it for 9 years straight (Jackie will have a fit!!!) but it does the job. This is the only med I take, still no afib for 8yrs . Could possibly get off it if I give up the beer and red wine but no bloody way! Peggy, I didn't know that you had suffered a stroke. When did it happen and how are you doing now? Years ago, before my first ablation, I had two TIA's (transient ischemic attacks) brought about by a period of frequent and long bouts of Afib. In time, with plenty of oxygen generating exercise and TOT (Tincture of Time) the very slight damage was reversed. (The reason I finally optedby Carol - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hey Adam! It's strange see a name on here that's around my own age, I'm 21 and have been diagnosed with Afib for about 2 years. I'm sorry to hear your ablation has been unsuccessful. I can't even imagine. I'm still working through all the kinks to try to avoid any surgery and am currently taking the medication route. Josiah - that's true. I had mine calibrated with the Hg sphyg in my doctor's office and it was off by about 5 points. And I also found it made a huge difference in the home monitor reading when I was in afib as to a reliable measurement. That's why I stopped trying to check because I thought at the time it added to my anxiety. Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
As for calming emotions, theanine is my first choice. It's totally amazing. I've recommended it so frequently to people with and without afib and they are amazed as well. It's an amino acid and very safe to use. Works in less than 15 minutes. I've had people on the phone in a panic over the onset of afib and they take the theanine and right as we are talking, the theaninby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Diane, for your anxiety you may consider L-Theanine, that is what I use and it calms me down within 30 minutes. Just a suggestion if you don't want to take medication. If it doesn't work you can always go back to your medication for anxiety. I am 69, a couple of years older than you and healthy, but also have always had stomach issues which I think are directly connected to afib. Aboutby Sharon Glass - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks Gordon. I first received a prescription for the Ativan with my initial afib experience. I told the doc I did not want it. He insisted that I needed it for my anxiety. It was 6 months before I finally used a half tablet (my husband encouraged me to do so) as I never take any drugs and did not want to start this. My family doc assures me that I won't get hooked as I use them so seldomby diane - AFIBBERS FORUM
