Andy...first, rest your mind, you will not die from afib in itself, you just have to make sure you learn all about it and decide which is the best route for you to take. Here are my suggestions as to what to do first, if you haven't already done this go to...the top of this page, click on the blue bar that says, "Questions about afib", read that...then back to the top and click oby Sharon Glass - AFIBBERS FORUM

Andy I was 55 when i started with afib and its very difficult to pinpoint what really caused it. My brother has it also. But I too suffer from anxiety at times and take occasionally klonopin to help. When i got afib the anxiety seem to get worse or come more often. I stopped caffeine i dont drink and did all the normal triggers. But I still got occasional attacks. Kerry - Welcome. I can appreciate your anxiety. We all have had those moments of extreme concern. Becoming educated on the topic is the first best step toward reducing anxiety and getting in control of your situation. I doubt that you have read everything here on this site including Hans books because you'd still be reading and not posting... there is just an enormous amount of helpfulby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi Kerry, How long have you been on the Zoloft? That may (or may not be) contributing to the problem I had my first few episodes at age 31, then went four years with nothing. This is when I started Lexapro and within a couple months the Afib came back with a vengence. I've just weaned off the Lexapro within the last month and have already noticed an improvement. I'm a 32 year old male who was just diagnosed with AFib. Sunday I had horrible palpations that led me to the ER. I was in Afib overnight as they gave me drugs to reduce my heart rate, and I converted on my own at 10:00am. I have read everything out there on the internet about afib and I have a tremendous amount of anxiety. I have just started to browse the board, but any insight for a beby Kerry Bossak - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi VJ, I'm 36 years old in good health. Like so many others with this condition, I've been running consistently for several years. Did you taper off the Wellbutrin very slowly? In my case, I tapered off Lexapro over several months. Even so, my afib became much worse over that period. I was getting several episodes per week. Now that I've been off the Lexapro for almost 4 weeby Jim - AFIBBERS FORUM
Here are my thoughts on the questions you pose. There is no question it is life-altering. Everything turns upside down in an instant with the onset of afib .or so it seems. We can all relate to your comments about the inconvenience and anxiety that comes with afib and your comments are certainly familiar to most of us. I certainly commend you for the time youve spent researching and helpingby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Out of town, solo, in a roadside hotel in an unfamiliar place. Anxiety took over, I called my EP and they advised me to go to the nearest ER. Well....I was directed to a hospital that was in a VERY ROUGH neighborhood...and as I lay in an overflow room from 11:00pm to 5:00am, there were two unresponsive OD's and a police officer who had been shot...the ER was pandemonium and out of control...by sah - AFIBBERS FORUM
Good evening, I have posted several times but I will give a quick refresh as I am looking for some advice. It seems as if I have my afib temporarily in check...3 total episodes, first in November 06, second in March 07, third in November 08...none since. Prilosec PTC with 50mg of Atenelol have helped..along with fairly dramatic diet modifications. It seems as if I am a combo ectopic sufferer...aby sah - AFIBBERS FORUM
Greetings all It has been 20 weeks since my last afib episode and nearly 20 weeks since my ablation. It is also 1 year since afib took over my life. I am finally beginning to ease up my anxiety since I survived a major allergic reaction and 2 other very stressful events in the last 5 weeks while my heart stayed steady as a rock. I have also been able to steadily increase my exercise intensityby Cyndie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Barb I know exactly what you mean about the burp feeling. I have suffered from Parox AF fornearly 20 years, I am 45 now. In the early days AF would self correct without medication. Later I was introduced to Flecainide at onset which seemed to fix. Further EP studies suggested an alternative drug namely Metoprolol. The specific type of arrythmia can determine the most appropriate drug. In latterby john - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jackie, I have previously conducted such a search and am aware of the author you mentioned. However, although there is an excitatory potential for this substance to cause certain transient physical symptoms and reactions, especially when eaten in large quantities and without food, I was unable to find well controlled double blind clinical studies that conclusively prove that MSG contributes to orby Vinny - AFIBBERS FORUM
Sooo, after three afib "experiences" (the first 2 1/2 years ago and the last in November) and an increasing number of PVC runs, I have decided to go to Mayo for a complete shake down with the hope that I can find some physical answer. The reason? My EP and local GP disregarded my last ER visit where I was having bigeminy and 10-15 PVC's/minute for several hours...and I had never haby sah - AFIBBERS FORUM
When I had my initial bout of AFIB an ER nurse and two physicians, including one Cardiologist, cavalierly related that it was not a disease of my heart and I shouldn't worry about it because it was "ubiquitous". They indicated the same to my wife when she had AFIB. So when my wife and I recently were seen by one of these physicians and his nurse and they repeated this inane commentby Vinny - AFIBBERS FORUM
Joe, you said, "So, the only way I can go off everything is to get a new cardio or not tell him." Please remember this is your body and not your doctor's and changing cardio's will probably not make a lot of difference as most doctors will prescribe medication because that is all they know. With that said, if you are going to receive a doctors care, it is my opinion that youby Sharon Glass - AFIBBERS FORUM
Joe, Reading Han's books, gathering insights from many on this Board who have knowledge and personal insights, and trying out the possible benefits of supplements, I have found VERY helpful. Steve, the question of whether belching precedes the onset of a-fib, possibly stimulating the vagal nerve resulting in ectopic beats, premature supraventricular complexes, SVT or atrial fibrillations or whether it is a consequence of the a-fib is an interesting, but at this time, unresolved issue. I look forward to a conclusive explanation as to the relationship between belching and afib other thby Vinny - AFIBBERS FORUM
Mike - No, I'd not say that vagal afib is typically accompanied with belching... but it does happen with afibbers who have a food sensitivity or in those who have Candida overgrowth, intestinal dysbiosis or lack of digestive enzymes including lack of adequate stomach acid. Well good news I guess. I called my cardio dr. and made an appointement to see the nurse for an EKG in 30 minutes. I had a little surge of anxiety about the appointment and right after that, the AFib was gone. Needless to say, I cancelled the appointment. The office must think I've gone loony. Hello, I am 35 years old and have a history of AFib spanning 6 years. After my first few episodes and a visit to the ER, I went over 4 years without any episodes. About 18 months ago, I developed problems with anxiety and was put on Lexapro. Additionally, I was given Remeron for sleep. A quick update on progress. It's now 5 weeks without a drink. At the 4 week point I was feeling much better especially in the mornings but wasn't feeling as great as I hoped I would after giving it up. Claudia, when I was diagnosed in 2005 I was put on beta blockers and they turned me into a zombie. After studying about afib through Hans book and from people on this this bb, I learned that the beta blocker was not good therapy for me. So, I only use supplements and diet now. It has been 7 wonderful months since I had, hopefully, a successful ablation. When I used to have afib, it was very symtomatic and lasted from 6 hours to 18 hours. Absolutely I was exhausted the next day and not full of energy on day 2. Are you taking any beta blockers? This is why it eventually took over most of my life. Sharon: yup, 'usual bubbly self' certainly is a challenge; possibly being able to walk and talk at the same time is a more appropriate expectation during or just after AF. Hello Janet, I appear to be a combo afibber, although the 3 episodes have initiated following a meal/snack, my heart rate and bp have shot up due to the anxiety that follows. After the 1st afib, my bp was determined to run ~150/90 and I was having lots of ectopics, so I was prescribed atenelol. I have been prescribed 50 mg of Atenelol daily...blood pressure and afib, and 225mg of Rythmol for the PIP approach. Yet to use, but I carry around in case. This information is a bit alarming.
