Scott, I'm very sorry for the loss of your beloved wife. Heartfelt condolences. Many of us use theanine to help with the stress/anxiety factor. It's just an amino acid, not habit forming, no withdrawal problems if you stop and inexpensive. You can try it and see what happens. I'd take it several times a day until you notice a difference. I only use it when I feel stressed, buby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
I understand stress and anxiety don't cause afib but once you have it can anxiety trigger it? I have had a lot of stress lately and I am having afib more than usual. As a little background my wife passed away in February. I later found out her last hospital stay was not covered by insurance because my employer didn't pay the premiums. Things seemed okay until the last 3 weeks and I'by Scott H - AFIBBERS FORUM
I have done alot of research on lone afib. This board has provided useful info particularly on supplements and diet. Why in the world would I go for a procedure (ablation) that is not without risk when I have absolutely NO symptoms. Also it seems many people on this board have had one or more failed ablations. I will continue to trust the word of my doctors who are qualified physicians rather thby Marji - AFIBBERS FORUM
I might add...when someone says, "off the scale" my first question would be what is my K value reading and what is the scale it is being measured by. As we all know most doctors would not approve of the amount of potassium we afibbers get each day even though the majority of us don't go above the RDA, therefore their reading may be much lower and you could still be in a safe zoneby Sharon Glass - AFIBBERS FORUM
Welcome Mark - sorry about the afib. You've come to the right place to vent and to learn more about AF. You'll get a good deal of useful help and plenty of support here thanks to the moderator, Hans Larsen for providing this website. There is a good deal of reading for information here that can be beneficial to you, but initially, I'd like to offer that if you can convert fastby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi... This site and the medical forum site have helped me fill in the gaps re Afib that my Dr did not. Thank You. My History: A healthy active 150 lb non-smoker 61 year jogger type who takes 20 mg of Lisinopril to keep BP in normal range (I used to take Lopressor for the BP), I had a few times in recent years incidences where my heart seemed to race a little and beat irregulary. Hi all! Long-time reader, infrequent poster here from San Diego. Base: I am in perm afib (diagnosed 3 years ago), 40 years old, very active (4-5 workouts per week), 4 small children with twins en route! I generally don't ever have any negative symptoms or issues with my afib. Its usually in the background. That sounds so similar to the bouts I would have. The excitement of a fancy meal, the anxiety that we all know (will I get afib from this...how do I know how they prepped the food, etc.). My monthly bouts were always within a day of each other but they lasted several days. Hi Jackie, No, thank heavens, the flutter or spasm isn't painful, but it is so unnatural and startling that it wakes me up. I fall asleep all right - although I am beginning to anticipate it happening which is not great faor falling asleep - but it seems to occur during certain stages of deep sleep and wakes me up repeatedly about an hour after I fall asleep. Hi Carol - I'm really sorry to see this post from you. When you feel the flutter or spasm... it is painful? Or just so annoying your mind can't focus on anything else and you are constantly thinking about that 'heart attack' statement. Do you think if you were able to get to sleep, could you stay asleep? I hate to harp on the use of theanine, but have you tried it?by Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Phil: Sorry, that you are feeling so low. Afib can be very disruptive and if you are not getting much sleep that can add to your anxiety and panic attacks. But, there is another thing that can make it worse and that is a low Vitamin B12 level. Please get the following blood tests done: CBC, TIBC, Ferritin, Serum Transferrin Saturation and a B12 and Folate level. If you are found toby Isabelle - AFIBBERS FORUM
Whoa, Phil. You said it yourself, your heart is fine. Yeah you have afib as do all of us, but afib is not going to kill you or make you an old man. I know I am probably out of line here, but I would suggest you see your doctor about a sleeping aid, maybe ativan would be a good choice to take when the afib creates anxiety and or you are unable to sleep. Been through it twice but I understand the anxiety. Remember, the EP and his associates know what they are doing and you will come through fine. Just think of the good possibilty you will be afib free and feel good all of the time. Best of luck and look forward to your report!by benj - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks for your post, Barb - I still stand on my issue of concern over free- glutamate content of either product.... not only as excitotoxic for heart cells, but also the brain. I don't think that small amount of calcium will matter much as it's the poorly absorbed form (carbonate) especially if well balanced out with supplemental magnesium. David Price, on another post you said "I was thinking of upping the dose, (Zyflamend) but it says not to on the bottle - since they're only herbs I can't personally see a problem, but maybe I should just exercise caution." This is the Wayne Dyer approach - do not think about what you don't want to have happen. Negative energy. He says, "you are what you think (about) all day long." Focus on the positive. That's easier said than done with afib, for some people though who are simply terrified of afib. Curt - I have had good success recommending theanine to people with stress and anxiety issues and some say it will speed up conversion. I've posted several times on theanine - use that word in a search on this forum and the one previous to that (archives - at the top of the page) Also check this: <; Jackieby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
I take up to 3000 mgs of taurine daily in 500 mg increments. I also use a capsule or two before going to sleep as it helps me sleep. If I wake up I take another. I can stay in NSR for days at a time if I am diligent in my supplements, ie taurine, magnesium and CoQ10, along with a few others thrown in the mix, ie potassium etc. I must however avoid my triggers of sulphur dioxide, sulfites andby Kate - AFIBBERS FORUM
Curt: I think we all deal with increased anxiety when we sense afib or flutter; more so in the early stages and we're scared, less so as we learn more about it including the knowledge that it, properly treated, is unlikely to be the cause of our ultimate demise. Sometimes anxiety can prolong an episode as the adrenaline released with anxiety speeds up the heart regardless of anything else.by Gordon - AFIBBERS FORUM
Kate, how long have you been on i and how much do you take? Are you in NSR all the time? thxby Curt - AFIBBERS FORUM
Jackie: Psychiarty isn't an exact science---how can they tell for sure if one individual has a lot of anxiety and another person doesn't. Some people keep things inside of themselves, they keep things hidden, I would say this kind of study would probably be flawed. Sam - I remember your earlier posts and also remember your struggles so I wasn't misled at all.
