What a Saturday I had! I started with afib at 2:00 a.m. Saturday, it seemed to partially go into NSR after about 7 hours, but as you know from my other post, I got these funny beats, not strong afib, but strange and not my normal beat. The strange beats went on all day long and I now believe I was still in afib, just not as strong as usual. Anyway, about 10:30 pm, I got up from my recliner to goby Sharon Glass - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hello Suzanne, what a horrid time you've had (and are having!) - I can understand your frustration and anxiety as I also had very symptomatic AF which didn't respond to meds. I also lost my job because of my afib, which eventually became permanent. My first ablation failed, too. Interesting too that there seem to be many common triggers between the two. Maybe we should all try to identify any and all illnesses, syndromes, health related problems we've had over the years and see what else we might have in common.... Hello Chance, First time poster, long time reader. This board is incredible from both compassionate and informative angles. Thank you to all who provide such valuable information. I am male, 40, in good shape and had my first afib episode in November of 2006. I had started noticing ectopic beats, both PVC and PAC diagnosed, about 6 years earlier, and they gradually became more frequent. I am bby sah - AFIBBERS FORUM
Chance, I'm sorry to see you've had another event. I'm a bit surprised at the age comment, though, as we are seeing it commonly reported here in a much younger population than has been noted in past years. It seems to be affecting a relatively large number of younger people as well...not that's that is any comfort to you. While AF isn't life-threatening, it certainlyby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
I went into afib at 10:30 last night, so I am closing in on 20 hrs. Went to a new cardiologist today in Monroe NC, complete exam, heart is completely normal, rate was 135 when I got there, no sleep last nite, gave in intraveneous CARDIZEM 35 mg, rate went to 80's, for several hrs I fet good thought I might get back to sinus, no. Michael - regarding stress and mellowing out. I'm a firm believer that stress is a prime driver of afib. I've proven it to myself over and over. One thing I've frequently mentioned over the years is the use of the amino acid, Theanine, to take the edge off stress. It is not like valium or any of the others similar. It doesn't impair your mental ability, ability to drive, make you sleepy oby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Michael I guess I am lucky that I accepted this damn problem without worrying too much, but partly I was being "male" and ignoring the problem. All my experiences point to a VAGAL Afib problem. I am 55, and in relatively good health with no underlying heart problems. Over the past 2 years 90% of my afib episodes I now blame on digestive problems. Michael, click on conference room, click on the past conference room proceedings and go down to #61, there you will find protocols from some of us who have been able to control or eliminate afib through diet and supplements. Michael - sorry to hear of your ongoing stress issues plus afib. Stress is certainly part of the picture - stress depletes magnesium. Magnesium helps maintain a calm heart and is calming to the body as well. We recommend magnesium glycinate as the most effective form as it is very bioavailable - which means it is readily absorbed into the system and can start to work its magic. Calm, yes. Do those things that make you calm. Find new ones. Afib attacks are like epilepsy or migrainei that they will have triggers. but hearing your story makes me think Catheter Ablation would have much to recommend itself. Hi Charles and Kate. Thanks for your replies. As you know I am having the sleep problems, which I put down to the Propafenone. Because I sometimes have afib a couple of times a week, I'm not sure that my GP will put me on the PIP method. Hi Heather. Sorry to hear that you have been in AF for so long. I too am in the UK, and I agree that some of the GPs we have don't know that much about the problem, I seem to be lucky, in that I have a very understanding doctor. Heather, Are you on a blood thinner? If not I would advise going to Emergency Room. Also is there another doctor in the area? An EP.....maybe you should get another opinion. Are you on any meds to keep yourself in nsr? Sounds like stress is one of culprits and I would say that you are experiencing anxiety over this also big time. Hi Wil - the sensations may or not may not be imaginary with the atrial tach. As I've mentioned previously, I gets short runs occasionally of sinus tachy and I'm definitely not imagining those and they were caught on the holter and diagnosed for me by Dr. Natale. Leah the only way to really know is to take your pulse when it happens. AFib is described as 'irregularly irregular' heart-beat. In other words there's no pattern to the skipped beats. Palpitations is often confused for AFib because it feels the same, but it is interspersed by periods of regular pulse. AFib isn't - unless you're going in an out of AFib of course. Well, the suppliments were not the cause of the anxiety. Since the anxiety disappeared as mysteriously as it manifested, the actual cause is still a mystery to me as well as the psychologist and psychiatrist I saw during that period. I believe though, it was either the fear caused by the afib episode or the fact that I abruptly cut out nicotine and caffeine at once and threw my chemical balanceby Eric - AFIBBERS FORUM
Just wondering how many of you "out there" consider yourselves to be in "overdrive" (or WERE in overdrive before reducing your afib)?
