Hi Scott, I am 51 now and was diagnosed with paroxysmal AFIB about 5 yrs ago and have been taking Lanoxin and Metoprolol since then and it has kept me out of Afib, except for one setback-after I took an OTC cold med. My heart beats too fast and this combo has helped me slow it down so I stay out of AFIB. I know a lot of people are against lanoxin but I am afraid at this point to "rock tby Denise - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi, I have had no problems with flying. The longest trip totaling 8.5 with a stopover and flight change in Newark to Ireland. Short trips have not bothered me either. In fact, the anxiety of almost missing a flight and having to clear customs didn't create a problem either. Afib is a mysterious phantom--I've learned to get on with things and not be concerned with flying. Good luckby Jerry - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks Kathleen! Actually i am on Rythmol SR. I was on Flecanide and Metoprolo which seriously did make me crazy with anxiety..... so are you a chronic afibber?? meaning do you have it all the time or have you managed to squelch it? Just curious what you are doing for yourself as well. Yeah i was in afib tonight and said screw it i am going to eat some of that Breyers ice cream out in the fby DeLynn - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hi everyone, Still kinda new here so trying to pass on info that I find. I belong to a couple of different boards. I not only have the typical AFib, flutter, pvc's, PAC's which both run bigeminy and trigeminy, but HCM and MVP, bifascuclar block, ACS, long QT syndrome, etc,etc,etc... I, like everyone else, worry at times when things are acting up and get very tired of going to the Eby Debbie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hello, DeLynn. Jackie is on vacation in Florida right now, she will doubtless answer when she can get to a computer. Speaking for myself i am not having periods any more and when i did have, i did not yet have afib. In my early 20's i had anxiety attacks, but over the years i learned to manage them. I really want to do it but my cardiologist who is my fried said its no rush. He is looking for the appropriate Doctor to perform the procedure. I was diagnosed about five months ago and before I was told its your anxiety just live with it. I am so sick and tired felling AFIB. I will go anywhere just to get this taken care of.by mike - AFIBBERS FORUM
Larry: As Homer Simpson says, "Alcohol is the cause and solution to all my problems." Like you, I have been able to convert predictably with alcohol. It usually take me three to four drinks. Alcohol also reliably stops PAC's from occuring while I am drinking. But, (and it's a big but) the effect only lasts while I am drinking. The problem with alcohol for me is the effecby PeterD - AFIBBERS FORUM
I was diagnosed at age 46, but believe I had it much longer than that, not knowing what it was. I thought it was anxiety. My attacks were mostly at night and I have always had stomach problems. I was also a heavy exerciser. I have cut back on the running since an ablation in March of '05 for flutter. So far (fingers crossed) this has cured the a-fib as well. Carol - This article was excerpted and placed in the Conference Room some time back under the vagus and hiatal hernia topic and the possible connection to AF. It's not exactly relevant here, but is an extremely enlightening piece; perhaps you'll find something that resonates with you. By the way, many people with arm pain find the connection in the cervical vertebrae - like nerve iby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
I am 26 and a fairly active individual (no marathon runner though..) and over the past year I have had a few bouts of what appears to be Vagal AF and it is apparently getting more frequent. In January 2005, I went to the urgent care clinic with a very high heart rate and high blood presssure. I had normal blood pressure prior to this episode. Jamie, I am a 41 y/o male in excellent health. At age 37 I had my one and only afib incident. I am an avid tennis player and it occurred during a particularly gruelling match. I wound up in the ER with an erratic pulse sometimes racing >220 bpm. I was sure I was dying as I had no idea what afib was at the time. Neither time nor meds would convert me so I was cardioverted 36 hours later.by Toby - AFIBBERS FORUM
I was really interested in all the dialogue about afib. I am on flecinaide and am convinced that there are ways to get off it, but I haven't exactly how to do it without tipping the apple cart. I do have the sense that I can almost predict when the afib is going to start based on anxiety and incidence of premature beats. sometimes I stave it off I think by doing hamstring exercises in bedby Betsy - AFIBBERS FORUM
I'm sure it is unsettling to experience these fast beats. Nothing gets our attention more than a racing, irregular heart beat. Why not ask your doctor to wear a holter monitor for several days? Would this be a possibility? Then from that, they can determine what types of ectopic activity you have. Also consider that rapid heart rate or palpitations can come from anxiety or panic attackby Jackie - AFIBBERS FORUM
Kevin, What you are going through is, as my husband observed, like the work of the devil. I know, because I have been there. These are my suggestions: First, as you know, the stress, frustration and anxiety of afib beget afib. It is a vicious cycle. So, if you can hold onto a mental image of being well and on the other side of this menace, you may gradually get out of its clutches. The mby Carol A. - AFIBBERS FORUM
While doing some research, I found this interesting article on the effects of stress on the body. There is a self test (below) to see how you rank with your own stress management. Hi Denise: I also felt lightheaded and a little dizzy when I had an attack of AFIB. My heart would beat very fast for short periods and unevenly. I was never sure whether the lightheadedness was due to anxiety or physical effects of the AFIB. I also have an anxiety disorder. I also agree with the previous post where someone said that medicines used for AFIB can cause lightheadedness. I haveby Jerry Smith - AFIBBERS FORUM
Kestra is very right about Valerian. Some years ago I took Valerian root to treat my insomnia. After taking it for 3 days in a row I started an afib episode and I ended at ER. Same thing happened to me after taking Echinacea, and not just once but in 2 different years. I for one, have to be very careful about meds, herbs or supplements as they might be triggers for my afib. In my opinion the herbby Cornelia - AFIBBERS FORUM
Not everyone can take Hawthorn, either. I can't. As I recall (it was a long time ago) it increased ectopics in me. I didn't think you could take lavender internally? I'm not sure. I know people use it in pillows for headaches and to help you sleep. I think you have to be careful with valerian, too, It's what they make "Valium" out of. I would watch the St Johns Wort as it does interact with many cardiac and other meds. Dandelion sounds good, Lavender is great, but I'm not sure about the rest. Have you tried supplementing with Mg, fish oil, potassium, CoQ10, Vit B6 etc? I'll let others jump in here as I don't use supplements and only do it all through diet. Catalin, You are worried about nothing. If I am doing the math correctly you are 40. If you have had a few episodes lasting 12 hours over the last 15 years and that pattern continues, you probably have a greater health risk if the Afib was replaced by a bad cold.
