I was originally prescribed the atenolol for mild anxiety by my GP. It worked okay for a while, but I began to notice some unusual flips, skips, and such in my chest. Bear in mind, at this point, I haven't got a clue what a PVC is, so I just shrug it off. Over the period of about a year they began to get worse and I woke up on Sunday morning, Sept 24th of 2000 with bats trying to get outby marshal - AFIBBERS FORUM
Testing for what, Glenn? I am really interested in this, since I have had what I would call mild "seizures" that wake me up 5-6 times a night since starting Norpace nine days ago. I had a few of these when I first developed afib eleven years ago, but the cardio pooh-poohed them then, because they didn't show up on a holter monitor transcription. I have had similar nocturnal eby Carol A. - AFIBBERS FORUM
Hello all, I have had paroxysmal afib for about 4 yrs , I am 49 yrs old ,and it is pretty well under control with meds. Daily though I do get the usual flutters, palps jumps, etc. but I have only had one incident of being out of nsr since being diagnosed and that was last Nov. to which I coverted within 24 hrs so I guess I am lucky so far... Hello everybody, I need a little advice here if anyone can help me. The problem is that I've stopped taking my Rythmol (with my doctor's consent) after 5 years, for its side effects on me, like bad GERD and chest pains - due to probably a very low pulse that it caused on me. Even now after o month of not taking it ( just once more, on demand, for stopping an afib episode), I get daily pby Cornelia - AFIBBERS FORUM
Stephen, I am taking 10mg of Lexapro for anxiety/depression. This amount has not helped my afib and I believe that is causing an upset stomach. May I ask what dosage you are taking and why your doc prescribed Lexapro for afib? Thanks! Flashby flash - AFIBBERS FORUM
Fran, Depression is a deep unconscious process, not something that you control by consciously adopting a happy outlook. You're quite right , however, about not knowing if one is minimally depressed, if they have been that way for most of their life. It is such a relative thing. One certainly knows if they are immobilized by deep depression. It is the minimal type that is the most incidby Carol A. - AFIBBERS FORUM
I don't come to this site very often but afdter reading this felt I should offer my advice. I had my last two attacks in 2002 which laste about 8 hours each and cardioverted without treatment. I have read the books, done the exercises etc etc but for me AF is caused by one thing - bad eating habits. For me AF attacks are caused by some kind of link between my heart and my gut. Peggy, We need to access vegetarian web sites and ask the question about incidence of afib. I searched on Google under "Vegetarian - organizations" and came up with a list of about five large organizations. I contacted the first one in Canada, and am waiting for a reply, but didn't have the time to pursue the others. Don't give up on this one. If we are correct, it woulby Carol A. - AFIBBERS FORUM
Carol, I, too, suffer from neck and shoulder tension, but consider myself of mixed variety. I'm not a Type A personality, but my tension in bad business or confrontational situations will usually manifest itself in this way, and could possibly have had something to do with my indigestion. On the other hand, I completely believe that diet plays a bigger role than we think in causing theseby Richard - AFIBBERS FORUM
I take Zoloft 50mg a day. It hasn't done much for my afib which I'm in every day. But, I have not had any anxiety related to the afib. No panic. Which I think helps me convert, instead of making it worse. Food for thought.......all of you out there who are anxiety prone. I suffered for years with anxiety and irregular heart beats. I ended up in the hospital with afib. Since I have discoby annie - AFIBBERS FORUM
My guess is that afibbers need more magnesium than non-afibbers because we have either burned out or exhausted our nervous systems. This burn out can be from high intensity physical stress (athletics) or from the accumulated effects of high levels of stress/anxiety over a life time. Stress that begins in early childhood and continued through to adulthood would take the worst toll. It couldby Carol A. - AFIBBERS FORUM
Its good to see the Scientific research community finally taking the link between GERD and LAF seriously. Something many of us new all along!!!! Since monitoring this board over the last year and a half I have noted that most, if not all, afib triggers RAISE stomach acid strength and most of the things that lower the incidence of afib REDUCE stomach acid strength. I honestly believe the effects that have been described are in the same ballpark as my recent success in stopping Afib episodes through meditative breathing. Anyone who's seen biofeedback data can see that lowering anxiety (and crucially I believe, inflammation) will affect heart rate, and therefore encourage NSR. I hope to bring you up to date with my little experiment group, hopefully befby david price - AFIBBERS FORUM
The rapid regular heartbeats are classified as sinus tachycardia. Sometimes these can lead to A-fib in people who are prone to have a-fib. It is my belief that PAC's (Premature atrial contractions) can lead to sinus tachycardia. Janet, you are most likely pumping a whole lot of adrenlin because of all you are dealing with. I am also dealing with aged parents and I'm aged myself. My father died and I have been taking care of my mother. I can't tell you how many times I have had to call 911 to get her to the hospital in time. All of these things create a huge overload of adrenlin. I think that is the major causeby Jan - AFIBBERS FORUM
Thanks Dean, my problems always starts in the stomack region, I never feel any extra beats in my chest. It is always just below my sternum many times I can stop it if I take 3 pellets of Nux Vomica (a homeopatic remedy) under the tongue and sit up straight and do some deep breating, but every 2 weeks or so it goes into afib irregardless of what I do, it just jump up in my chest and the "liby Ella - AFIBBERS FORUM

There is a new topic in the conference room: "Fear, anxiety and afib". I believe it would be worthwhile to discuss just how important a role fear and anxiety play in triggering afib - and of course also, what coping mechanisms fellow afibbers have developed if fear and anxiety are indeed important triggers for them. I went into afib saturday early morning, and I must add that this time it was a combination of salty turkey I ate in a restaurant on Friday, hypoglycemia because I waited too long to have lunch, the heat of the day and the stress of not knowing what was going to happen on Saturday. Hi David , Yes I can relate to the anxiety and erosion of confidence. I am on 2x 100mg of Tambocor daily( 1 at night and 1 in the morning) I would like to think that given time and with the help of Hans Larsen and Magnesium that I can get off Tambocor all together, I am also on 2x50mg of Atenolol daily. You are correct about the confidence thing. How much Tambacor are you on? IAlthough I didn't say it I also take omega 3 and Taurine 3000mg daily in addition to a good multivitamin. Hey, you guys I am so glad that you are finally able to acknowlege and reveal problems with hostility and anger and, how it has apparently been underlying afib. Stephen, I have now been going for 16 months with out an afib attack. When I had my first attack in 1997 I was a very uptight and angry person, mainly to do with my job at the time which involved driving around daily in a big city.....maximum road rage every day! Stephen, I wouldn't change or do a thing. Forget about looking into other possible things like homocysteine (although I do believe it is an important marker for heart health) because you will just sink back into the afib trap. Stephen, Thank you for contributing that post to the forum. I think that this is very, very important and that we should all be looking at anger/hostility in relation to afib very carefully. I, frankly, think that it enters into the picture with women too, but that the Framingham Heart Study test may not have been structured to pick it up in women. Carolby Carol A. - AFIBBERS FORUM
